Rating: Summary: One of the most enthralling works of fantasy ever written. Review: In the "Eye of the World" Robert Jordan draws the reader into a world of phenominal detail and magical fantasy that I have not seen since J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings." To put it simply, Jordan has a vision and scope to his writing that goes far beyond what most writers would dare to even imagine. From the beginning, I was enthralled by the character detail and interactions and for thousands of pages to come I would enjoy watching those characters grow and mature before my eyes. As a whole, "The Wheel of Time" is a series that creates its own reality and the more I read, the more frequent my journeys to Jordan's world became. On every page of every book, Jordan delivers with the same rich detail and high excitement that you come to expect after reading the "Eye of the World". I would highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys fantasy as it is a pleasure to read and becomes harder and harder to put down. I eagerly await the next book but at the same time I am sad that this series must end. Jordan's detailed world and dynamic characters will be sorely missed by anyone lucky enough to pick up a copy of the "Eye of the World".
Rating: Summary: Judge the series not the book... Review: Eye of the World is slow. It starts off interesting but it does take a little while to pick up. After I read the first book I was interested enough to read the second... and the third... and fourth.. etc. I've read them all. The series is tied in my heart for best with Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar and other books... It is easily one of the most intricate and captivating fantasy series out there... a definite TEN! But there is A LOT of detail, setting up the plot(s), and character developement.. the transformations the characters go through are AMAZING!! Jordan doesn't carry one or two plots but 7 or 8! If you have patience and enjoy large detailed WORLDS then Jordan is DEFINITELY for you! But if you crave battle after battle then read Feist :) Very different styles equal in quality!
Rating: Summary: Not fore everyone, definately not for me. Review: I will attempt to keep this short, and hope that some of you read this review in the mass already listed for this book. Jordan weaves a good, interesting plot and couples it with fascinating characters. However, the manner in which he does this is INSANELY wordy and rambling. I have read 4 of these books, and will read no more. I far perfer a book that allows the reader some use of his own mind, rather then a soap-opera style that, IMHO, will never end. If you believe that wordyness is nessessary for a novel, please read "The Black Company" by Glen Cook. You may be pleseantly suprised.
Rating: Summary: Koo Koo Cacho For This GREAT Book Review: I love this Book! I have read quite a few books in the last few years, and this is either my first or second favorite book ever. I loved the plot, and everything was specific and detailed. There is only two other books that I can think of that are this great, and they are "The Dragonstone" and "The Eye Of The Hunter" if you're looking for a GREAT book to read, read The Eye Of The World
Rating: Summary: Tolkien, Terry Brooks, David Eddings, who're they? Review: As a hardcore reader, I'd like to think I'd read all of the best that authors had to offer. I was wrong. With this book, indeed with all of the books in the Wheel of Time series, I am astounded by the scope of Mr. Jordans work. He has created a world and created everything on it. He has several main charecters, almost seven novels at once, and his ability to put the reader into the story is nothing short of astounding. This book, the first in the series, is my personal favorite. Here regular people, people we can relate to with everday loves and losses we can see ourselves in. From there he draws the reader into a world uniquely suited to the story. A world where death walks and is lifes only salvation. If you haven't read it, it is less than a thousand pages long, then I would highly recomend it to anyone, even if they don't particularily prefer the Fantasy genre. This book, and the series, is worth it.
Rating: Summary: My completely HONEST review and opinion on the SERIES... Review: When I first picked up Eye of the World, I didn't expect anything... I hadn't heard anything about it, and I was looking for something good to read at a library. I had always been interested in Fantasy after reading Tolkien (who hasn't?)... I read through the book, and remember being fascinated by it, so I couldn't wait for the second book. Well... Obviously I could wait for the second one, because I went on with my life, and forgot ALL about it, until one day it came up at work while talking about fantasy authors. This sudden rememberance of a story I enjoyed years ago finally had me standing in a bookstore buying the first four books. I started reading the Eye of the World (for the second time) on a cross-country airplane flight. I was amazed out how slow the first few chapters were... I guess I expected more. Then, things started happening, and I ended up finishing the book in a few days. Excitedly I picked up the second book and again, finished it in a few days... The third... The same. I ended up buying books five, six, and seven somewhere in the middle of all this, and continued on with book four. Anyway, somewhere in the middle of book five, my thirst was quenched. I no longer NEEDED to know what was going to happen. I still wanted to know, but I slowed down a lot. It took me twice as long to read the last three books as it did the first four. After reading all seven, I patiently await book 8. I still believe this is the greatest series I have ever read, and have recommended it to numerous other people. I was amazed at the series' following on the net. There are many site dedicated to trying to predict what will happen and trying to decipher the viewings/foretellings. What happened to him? And why did they do this? It's enough to make your head spin. Some people like things simple. The simpler, the better. Some people like things complex. The more choices and things you have, the better. I feel this series may appeal more to people who don't mind having four hundred an! d fifty things going on all over the place, and trying to figure out how all those things come together. Overall, brilliant. Astounding. The best work I have read to date. I applaud Mr. Jordan. Keep the books coming, sir. Terminus Vincere Autmori -Kodome calichniye ga ni Aes Sedai hei, but inde muaghde Aes Sedai misain ye.
Rating: Summary: I can't believe all the 10's! Review: I bought this book when I saw all the 10's in the review section. To each his own, I guess. To me this book was slowww. I was raised on Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert E. Howard so I'm used to more action. 800 pages of description and the story elements still weren't clear. I'll read the second book to see if it picks up, but I've read 200 page books that I've felt more involved in.
Rating: Summary: 10? I give it an 11! Review: Robert Jordan, you are a genius. I loved this book. I couldn't put it down once I started. Would you believe I found this book while browsing the small book section at our local Meijer's store? I'm glad I found it, because I have continued on to read the second, third, fourth, and fifth book in Rob's series. The plot of this story is the best I have ever seen. I started out reading J.R.R.Tolkien's series, and I loved those books too. But this series is more than the icing on the cake. I think that future series will have a very hard time topping this one. Once again, I commend you, Robert Jordan, for writing a captivating, never stopping, exciting, powerful, moving story that I will read again, again, and again.
Rating: Summary: This is one of the best fantsays ever written. Review: This is the best book I have ever read in this type of topic. Robert really gets you into the book with hooking chapters and much much more. This is the best book I have read that really describes what is going on in detail while also using a kind of magic that I will swear has never been used before. This isn't your typical kind of book with dragons, brave knights and fair maidens. This book Has chractors and a plot far beyond your wildest dreams. I love this book so much, I read the first and second and third and fourth and fifth and sixth and want to read the seventh. I have never read such a good book since I read the Terry Brooks, Shannora series, and I think that Robert Jordan equals and might even top anything that Terry Brooks might have written. I am only eleven yet I love fantsay and any one whos likes it like me or even a little bit will love this book (or even series). I hope that all of you that read this review will go out and buy this fabulous book. Good luck!
Rating: Summary: A classic work of fantasy literature everyone should read Review: Robert Jordan has done what most thought impossible after Tolkien. He has created a new world of fantasy which mixes with our own reality in a way that makes this book a "must read." The plethera of characters comes alive in just the first few chapters. The only problem with this book is that it takes a few chapters to really get going, but once it does, it never stops. The descriptions are so complete that they paint pictures of exactly what that scene looks like. The timeless struggle between good and evil is not rehashed, but reborn in this book, which brings the reader in so far that sometimes it will be hard to get out of that world. WARNING- Once you pick it up, you may not be able to put it back down.
