Summary: The best of the best
Review: This Audio CD is an excelent way to here the book The Lord Of The Rings. It is good for people on the go who do not have a lot of time to read and who also do a lot of driving. It is great because it is the entire book or I should say books since nothing is cut from the recording. So if you do not have a lot of reading time I would recemend this book. It also is good if you have seen both movies because a lot is explained in the book that did not go into the movies. You will also meet some new characters too.

Summary: The Two Masters
Review: I have listened to about twenty classic novels in the form of unabridged audio recordings, and the Lord Of The Rings was by far the best. In fact, it was altogether different.

That Tolkien is a master of the written word is beyond question, and you will find few other books that will delight you like this one, or educate you half so well. But, it is Inglis that makes this work so remarkable.

You will wonder that there is not a whole cast of actors given the diversity of the voices, or that the book has not been dramatised given the performance. You will fall love in love with the adorable Treebeard, be inspired by the wisdom of Gandalf, and shed a tear at the simple goodness of everyday hobbit folk.

The term 'Shakesperian actor' is bandied around a little too often; it's true worth is not alway acknowledged. But Inglis' performance demands applause. In conjunction with the equal mastery of Tolkien, and the value of the sum is necesarilly greater than the value of the parts.

The Lord Of The Rings audio production is more than a work of art, it is a place to spend your time, a solace from the tedium of everyday life, and a shared understanding between you and the characters of Middle Earth.

I urge you to buy this book, or some other great work. If you are not touched by it then you have no heart, and if your integrity and fortitude are not strengethened by it then you have no soul. If you can't afford it to own it then gain access to it some other way - it's your birthright.

Summary: Extraordinary Achievement!
Review: I know what you're thinking. "How many CD's come in this set? No way I'm reading all that." And you would be right in thinking as much. It took my wife and me the better part of a year on vacations and road trips to finish the entire book.

But I can only say that the experience of LISTENING to the LOTR is a qualitatively different experience than READING it. It makes one wonder whether or not Tolkien intended the LOTR to be an Oral History rather than a Narrative.

Either way, the experience of hearing Inglis work through the text was quite possibly one of the most moving literary experiences I have ever had. I found myself engaged emotionally in the book in a way in which I never was while reading it. I never realized how often I had skipped over the poems and long narratives containing the back history. But Inglis voice characterizations and dead on grasp of intensity and place breathe a new dimension of life into this already amazing piece of literature.

If you appreciate LOTR at all, you simply will NOT be disappointed with this set.

Summary: Absolutely the best performance available!!!
Review: I've recently received this unabridged collection and I must say that it is fantastic! Rob Inglis is absolutely fantastic. He does all the voices, the music is great, and of course the story is fantastic! A real must-buy for readers who haven't the time to read!

Summary: A great reading of a great story
Review: I am not able to read LOTR nearly as often as I would like, so this FABULOUS unabridged reading converts hours of driving time into reading time. With his rich English accent, Rob Inglis is about as good a reader as you can imagine. Although this is NOT a dramatization (but contains EVERY word of the written works), Inglis brings so much soul to each character, description, etc. that Tolkien himself couldn't have done better.

A bonus is that Inglis actually sings all the songs (he wrote many of the tunes), and they are really excellent.

I can't recommend this enough as a fabulous way to experience LOTR, esp. on long trips with your family. And don't miss his unabridged reading of the Hobbit, which is just as great.

Summary: Never had time to read it? Then this set is for you!
Review: This is a fantastic CD set. I was unsure about buying it because of the cost--but I am very glad I did. It has made long interstate trips a joy on more than one occasion. I still have not finished the series, but I wanted to write you a review to encourage anyone anywhere to buy this set. I am already looking forward to when I can begin the series again!! The author brings the characters to life.
There is still time to buy the set, and know the real story before The Two Towers comes out in December!!

Enjoy!

Summary: If you have had trouble reading Tolkien, try this version.
Review: After many stops and starts trying to read 'The Lord of the Rings Trilogy' I was finally inspired to try to listen to it on my one hour commute to work. I was amazed at the beauty of the language that was not easily evident when reading it myself. The audio version gave me the opportunity to enjoy a work that I otherwise would have missed out on.

Summary: An Oscar Performance
Review: I am in the midst of listening to this presentation for the second time and I am loving it even more than the first. It is a wonderful way to escape during the morning commute.

Rob Inglis gives an extraordinary performance - acting all characters in distinctly different voices; his singing voice is quite pleasant, and his mastery on the languages (including elvish) is remarkable. I feel, while listening to him speak, as though I am listening to actors in a movie. The tone and energy is appropriate for every scene; the narration draws you in as though you were on the journey with all of the Company.

For those that would otherwise never have the time to sit and read the entire trilogy, I highly recommend this addition. Think of it as a bedtime story for adults.

Summary: Genius!
Review: My review is simple, this is a complete and unabridged reading of all three parts of Lord of the Rings and boy is it great! Rob Inglis is a master of the voice. His pacing and ability to capture the mythical feel of the Rings world is magic. He excels in doing different voices for each of the characters and in singing the many songs that make Rings such a rich book. If you get this audio book you will not be disappointed. Well worth the money.

Summary: Best Unabridge Book on CD ever!
Review: Although a little too much money than I was wanting to spend, these CD's are really worth it. I read the Hobbit and watched the animated movies a long time ago and after seeing the Lord of the Rings - the Fellowship of the Ring, I wanted to read the trilogy. My problem is that I just did't have the time to read them along with all of the things I had to do for work, school, etc. These CD's solved that problem.

Rob Inglis does a fantastic job with the narrative and the voices of the characters. I can't say enough on what a great job he does.
