Rating: Summary: This Book Is Amazing! Review: Tolkein is a master story teller. His stories have entertained people for years. A great choice. You can hardly put it down.
Rating: Summary: The Bevil Review Review: This book is pretty good. Although, it gets boring throughout the book, it turns out to be pretty good.
Rating: Summary: A Pretty Good Book Review: It is hard to get into the book at the front of it but after about 100 pages or so it gets pretty good. It is the first part of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It really did not have enough action in it, all it really did was just talk about what they were going to do with the ring and they walked around a lot. It was still a pretty good book but I liked The Hobbit better.
Rating: Summary: It gets into your heart Review: As another reviewer said, ``forget Harry Potter!'' This is the real thing. Tolkien is an incredible storyteller, an amazing poet, and this is his best book. When you read this story, you know you are visiting a fabulous world with a long and rich history we only glimpse as we follow the Fellowship of the Ring on its quest to conquer evil once and for all.
Rating: Summary: What do you mean you haven't read it? Review: With some of the most memorable characters in literature, this book is a definite MUST for any dedicated reader. Tolkien's use of description leaves others far behind. There is no one to match Tolkien. Long live the Hobbits!
Rating: Summary: The basis for the greatest trilogy of all time. Review: The Lord of the Rings, as a whole, has always been discussed of as a series. However, each of the books are almost a self-sustained masterpiece. The Fellowship of the Ring is the first of the novels that takes you into Middle Earth onto the rollercoaster ride of Frodo Baggins. I won't spend much time giving you the story because every single detail I might give you could ruin it. So that is that.Tolkein structured the book in a way that almost every author who dared to venture into the fantasy realm would somehow copy him (of course, it can also be said that Tolkein is not the ONLY creator of fantasy... That's also C.S. Lewis' domain). When it is first read, the story might seem almost dated. That is because some of the more popular stories of today (and movies) are loosely based around this novel's structure. What remains ever interesting about Tolkein's novels is how believable they seem: the languages used in them are not "made up," instead, they're carefully thought out and planned. For example, Tolkein would spend times just wondering how a letter would be written in elven lettering or how it would be pronounced when read. Add that into the story and you have a world that is almost as believable as the one we live in. If you haven't bought this book (or the series, for that matter), you're missing out on one of the finer gems in all of literature. If you don't get it today... well, get it tommorow. It's worth every cent.
Rating: Summary: Slow to get going but still great Review: Yes I know the book is a little slow to get its feet wet but after a hundrened pages or so it is exelent. For a good while is it mindless travleling but I must say that it is still a great book and the series only gets better. Hang in there for the first part because it is worth it in the end.
Rating: Summary: THE *TIMELESS* Classic, no matter what others say Review: This book shoves off the greatest trilogy ever written. Some people might say that it is long-winded and boring. Obviously these people are (...). They need to stick with their R.L. Stein and take another dose of those nummy medications. But honestly, I love these books, and am just about to finish all 6 (yes 6) of the Tolkien books I own. Oh and if you love Tolkien, do yourself a favor and see the movie next Christmas
Rating: Summary: Boring Review: In despite of my great respect for Mr. Tolkien's personality and the fabulous fantasy universe he has created, I can't give any good credits to this book. It's very leisurely and hard to follow. It's difficult to tell what it really is that's wrong with the book. When I think about it rationally, the story should be extremely interesting. When I start to read it, it just bores me to death. No offense. This book is for dedicated fans only. If you're not familiar with Tolkien, read The Hobbit first.
Rating: Summary: A Brilliant Start to The Lord of the Rings Review: Althought slow to begin with, The Fellowship of the Rings really grasps you into's its world, introducing some really interesting characters and plot lines. I'm not usually a fan of fantasy or science fiction but this book really changed my view on the genre. A must for every person!
