Rating: Summary: Disappointing. Review: I've always been fond of Peter David's work; what enthralls me is the fact that he's one of the few writers of Star Trek books who can capture the feel of some of the original series episodes, like "Trouble With Tribbles", "A Piece of the Action", and "Shore Leave", which manage a tongue-in-cheek humor without sacrificing the drama of an actual plot. This book didn't seem to me to find that balance as well as others of his that I've read; the humor seemed more heavy-handed, the plot sillier and less worthwhile. It finished better than it started, but on balance I didn't feel like I was reading a real Star Trek story with a bit of humor to it; I felt as though I was reading a comedy with the gloss of a Star Trek story superimposed on it.Still not a bad book; just not nearly as good as I expect from Peter David.
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Every ST:NG fan should read this book! Review: If there was ever any doubt that Peter David understands and writes Star Trek characters better than anyone else this is Exhibit A to prove it is true! Not only are all the characters in character, but their interactions with each other and reactions to each other ring true as well. The interaction between Lwaxanna and Q is a perfect example and is absolutely priceless. This is especially true of the ending - wherein both charcters are at their best. Or worst. Of course, with these two characters that's pretty much the same thing. After almost falling asleep during the dreadfull Star Trek:Insurrection i only have three questions. Why don't the Powers That Be include Lwaxanna Troi and Q in their next film? Why don't they have Peter David write it? Why don't they base it on this wonderful book!!?
Rating: Summary: STNG #18 - Q-In-Law - An outstanding early David novel! Review: If you've read many of the earlier Star Trek The Next Generation novels to include Peter David's work, you will have found that his stories are among the most intriguing, hilarious and captivating among them. "Q-In-Law" is no exception to that and, in fact, this particular novel is a step above his already high standard of writing. Few of Star Trek's authors' capture the characters as well as Peter David does and even fewer are capable of dignified comedy with the characters as Peter David is. The premise: The Enterprise is chosen as the site for a wedding between two powerful but rivaled families of the space faring merchant raced called the Tizarin. As is custom, Captain Picard is quite happy to be hosting the wedding right up to the point in which the Federation delegate from Betazed shows up, Lwaxana Troi. Captain Picard now finds himself attempting to dodge the romantic overtures from Lwaxana Troi and still run his ship. Everything seems to be going smoothly until Q shows up to examine the human concept of love. Everything seems to fall apart from there. Q's experiment in love with Lwaxana Troi turns haywire on him and from there you will find that you're reading one of the most hilarious and engrossing early STNG novels! The Audio Tape: As an added bonus, this particularly great story was produced as an audio book as well! It is made even better having been read by Majel Barrett and John de Lancie themselves. This audio book is certainly a great way to spend three hours on the highway! I highly recommend this novel and the audio tape to any and all fans of Star Trek as they're both extraordinarily entertaining! {ssintrepid}
Rating: Summary: nice to see Q get a bit of justice Review: It was a real trip to see Q get what he deserved in that book, it was also a treat to see Luwxana do what she does best, take control of a situation. All and all a good read for anyone interested in Q!!
Rating: Summary: The bold and the Q Review: Lwaxana in Love Peter David has a variation of the wedding aboard the Enterprise theme. This was done in the first season with Troi and the beginning of the second season with the Okona character helping Picard with the two warring families. In this one Troi's Mom, Lwaxana falls for Q! She even acquires powers of our favorite from the Q continuum. She does not fear his ability to wipe out anyone in an instant. Of all of the novels this is one that should have been produced as an episode. The dialogue rings true to all the characters. In this one we even get a surprise visit from Q two. Portrayed by Corben Bernsen from LA Law. The surprise in this novel is that no one acts contrary to the way we see them on TV. In too many of the novels the dialogue doesn't cut it. This reads like an episode from beginning to end.
Rating: Summary: Totally Hilarious! Review: Many books claim to be funny, this one is! It does NOT disappoint Star Trek fans. :) I have the audio book version as well as the paperback, and the audio leaves out some fun parts; especially a sub-story with Wesley Crusher. Can't give it away, but it was a shame they had to cut it for the audio.

Rating: Summary: This book is wonderful! Review: Out of all of the Star Trek:TNG novels out there this book is definately in the top 5 best novels ever written. Peter David is an amazing writer who captures the the characters so completely you can see the events unfolding in your mind. Q-in-Law is one such book. It is hysterical and I found myself laughing out loud. Anyone familiar with the show will definately enjoy the meeting of Lwaxana Troi and the infamous Q. I have re-read this book so many times that the binding is coming apart, and everytime I read this book I enjoy it more and more. If you read it you'll understand why!
Rating: Summary: This book was HYSTERICAL! Review: Peter David has an exceptional writing ability and knowledge of everyones favorite advesary, Q. The end was so funny, I was in tears and nearly fell off the chair I was sitting on. (And I was in a waiting room at a doctors office!)Lwaxana rules! As much as I like Q, he really needs a kick in his complacency once in the while and she sure gave it to him. Excellent. I'd recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Right Up There With IMZADI, baby!!!!!!!!! Review: Peter David is the best TNG writer ever. This book is a must read for anyone even remotely interested in Star Trek or even if they're not. When you read this book you can almost see the actors playing the parts and you'll laugh out loud at the crew's wild ride when two of the funniest TNG characters Lwaxana Troi and Q get together. Saying that sparks flew is the understatement of the century. This book is the best, add 10 more points to the score :-)
