Rating: Summary: John Travolta should film this one Review: All those jokes about "military intelligence" being an oxymoron come to fruition in this hilarious actioner based loosely on a real situation from Hubbard's life. The nation of Colodor, where most of the story takes place, doesn't appear on any map because of a cartographer strike, and has almost no military at all (one character demands "Send the entire Colodor Air Force after them! Yes, both planes!"). The head of ONI wants Tom Smith, the guy who's substituted for Pedrito Miraflores, to be more of a hellraiser than the meek, proper Navy lieutenant that he is, and gets his wish when Pedrito comes on the scene ("Booze! Cigars! Prostitutes! That's my boy!"). Meanwhile Tom is getting shot at by angry government officials and angrier women for Pedrito's misdeeds. It's fun, it's funny, and it'll make a great movie (it's the novelization of a screenplay).

Rating: Summary: Ridiculous Review: I admire Kevin J. Anderson's work but this one is pretty awful. Most of the scenarios are so unbelievable. One page you've got the main character, Smith, throwing bananas and humvees, next thing you know he's swimming with alligators. Everyone in the book is incredibly stupid. No one takes Smith seriously even when he complains throughout the book.
The story goes through amazingly fast and pointlessly. You often ask why they're doing this and that. Bottomline: Read this only if you feel like watching a retarded comedy action movie. Anderson is trying to be funny (he succeeds once in a while) but otherwise fails utterly.
I give it three stars because it was mildly readable and it somehow made me finish it in three days.
Rating: Summary: The end could have been better!! Review: I believe that this book was a great and well written book until its final chapters. The characters were enjoyable and interesting adding an underlying sense of enjoyment.
Rating: Summary: Exciting and funny Review: I couldn't put it down! Not only is it really exciting, but it's hilarious as well! I nearly died laughing after the descriptions of the Colondor airforce. I heartily recommend it. It's a fast read.
Rating: Summary: A brillaintly plotted, widly funny book, a must read! Review: I couldn't put this book down, it has everything, wild South Americain men and women, two less than capable intelligence arms and a plot that keeps you on the edge.
Rating: Summary: I tried and tried, but I couldn't put it down! Review: I foolishly thought I could buy this book and still get a good night's sleep. Ha! Wrong! It's a very funny, fast paced, adventure, spy story of what happens when a Lt. in US Naval Inteligence and a South American revolutionary leader (who look identical) get switched. If you ever wondered what happened to the KGB then the answer is here and a funny answer it is too. I highly recommend the book but I take no responsibility for any sleeping problems caused by an inability to put it down.
Rating: Summary: Fast paced, funny, a page turner, couldn't put it down! Review: I have always suspected the intelligence community was an oxymoron, now I'm sure. This book is probably more true to life than we would want to believe. This is the first book I have read cover to cover, in one sitting, in a long time. It takes place in South America replete with all the political and sociological upheavals that we have come to expect. But now you will know what it is all about and espionage will never be the same. Ai! Pedrito is very entertaining and when you finish you will say, "what a ride!" I recommend it without reservation.
Rating: Summary: Action and humor! Review: I really enjoyed this book! I normally don't like to read "spy" novels, but made an exception because of Hubbard and Anderson. I'm certainly glad that I did. There wasn't all that "intelligence" agency jargon that is the norm for novels like this. I'd definitely recommend this to others.
Rating: Summary: This book is horrible Review: I've never rated a book this low, it's so bad I could not finish it. I did manage to make it over halfway. No research has gone into this novel, and basically anything can happen. Tom Smith is given a free trip to a South American country because he's the exact look alike of Pedrito who is a revolutionary. Once he gets into South America he's mistaken for Pedrito, and Pedrito takes his place in America. The problem is anything can happen and the characters are unrealistic to say the least. Women only want to have sex and get married. They have no personalities. If I were female this book would offend me. This book jumps from one unrealistic scene to another. For example, Tom Smith who has never flown a plane before manages to evade 2 F-14 jets piloted by the CIA. He does this while flying a decrepit plane for the first time. The reasoning for his escape is that the trained jet pilots were not used to chasing anything this slow so they could not shoot him down. Tom Smith furthermore has no brain and just does what others direct him to do. If someone tells him to stand while a boat is searching for him, with the intention of shooting him, he simply stands up in his canoe. As if that scene is not ridiculous enough after they spot him, he jumps in the water and swims towards the boat. Apparently the crocodiles assume that he's leading them towards food, since they attack and eat all of the people on the boat. For some reason the boat manages to sink at this instant to allow this. To add to this ridiculous scenario one of the underlings asks his boss what they should do about the crocodiles as he's being eaten. Also, apparently in South America there are huge snowstorms that come out of nowhere. Nothing is this novel is logical. The most disappointing aspect of this book is that Kevin J Anderson is capable of writing so much better. I have read a lot of his other work, and it is far superior to this. Most of his other novels I would in fact recommend. Also, this is apparently based on an event that transpired in L. Ron. Hubbard's life. I would take this with a grain of salt. Hubbard is the creator of Scientology and Dianetics, and has been proven to embellish his past.
