Summary: Beginning of a great series of books
Review: An excellent futuistic survival series

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: An interesting start...
Review: Oddly, this book didn't reall grab me the first time I started to read it, probably because I was engrossed in the David Robbin's "Endworld" series at the time. However, I picked it up again and it struck a chord with me upon reading it in it's entirety. The reader is introduced into the basic world of the series, and its combatants. The pace is quite quick, and the descriptions of the events often allow you to imagine yourself as a distant observer, something I always enjoy. As an introduction to the series, it performs well, and has wet my appetite for the rest of the novels. I have finished 4 of the books to date, and hope that the others in the series (some 43+ and counting) live up to the standards set by this crisp, enthralling introduction to the lives of Ryan and his party.

Summary: Great Reading
Review: One of the better books I have read this year, Pilgrimage to Hell is a great novel for anyone into post-nuclear holocaust fiction. For anyone who has played the PC roleplaying games Fallout and/or Fallout 2, this is basically like 'reading' the game. Great stuff. The ending was a little weak, but made me want to go out and pick up the second book in the series, which is a good thing. I was reading this book whenever I could fit in time after work, I highly recommend it.

Summary: Gritty, well written, futuristic sci-horror
Review: The beginning happens with the end. Instead of starting the novel with the reader scratching his head, the author does the favor of giving a history.

A nuclear war destroys society as we know it. The book picks up with the remnants of civilization, 100 years after the war.

A greedy baron and his henchmen attack the main characters, forever altering the course of their lives. Their adventures take them all over the shattered continent of North America, dealing with mutants and monsters...losing and gaining friends along the way.

The first book was by far the best. The series still kept my attention 15 books later...but now I see that Axler has written a *lot* more material.

A must read...but definitely a "guy" book. (No offense to the TomBoys out there)

Summary: The Grandfather of them all
Review: The first in a long line of Deathlands books. You will notice I do not call them novles because while they are enjoyable they hardly qualify as "War and Peace". Here for the first time we meet Ryan Cawdor, basically a one eyed crazy man frontman for a firm(but fair) warlord named "The Trader". We are also introduced to J.B Dix, Kysty, Do , Hun and many others. The author manages to paint a very vivid picture of a world affected by Nuclear War and this book has (by far) the best plot and charecter development of any other in the serise.

Overall-If you liked William W. Johnstone you will like this book.
