Summary: Thrilling... read it in one sitting!
Review: This was an amazing contemporary treasure hunt with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page!

Summary: Riptide A Worthy Successor to Reliquary
Review: This is by far Preston and Child's best book, right up there with "Relic"! The protagonist, Malin Hatch, is a lovable character, whose pain over losing his brother to Ragged Island is heart-tugging. The antagonist, Captain Neidelman, is a wretched, vile man, with eyes only on the treasure the island guards. This book matches, if not successes, Preston and Child's last yarn, "Reliquary". I can't wait until their new novel, "Thunderhead", appears on the best sellers list!

Summary: This was an interesting book packed full of action/suspense
Review: "Riptide", by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child was a nice book that had lots of deaths!!!!!!(Yahooo!) It was bloody and had way too much violence and gore. Neidelmen was a revolting scuzball obsessed with nothing but St. Michael's sword and he ended up killing himself (hahahahaha). Hatch was a cool dude and was all good and everything. Bonterre was the best character in the book. Overall a pretty good book. I liked how Neidelmen ended up dead!!!

Summary: OUTSTANDING!Will just keep your head above water!!!!!
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It has realistic, interesting characters. A dose of honest excitement radiates from each and every chapter.

Summary: Child & Preston have done it again!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed RELIC, RELIQUARY, and MOUNT DRAGON, so I was very excited when I heard about the newest book by Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston.

This one may be their best yet!

If you enjoy books by Peter Benchley, Clive Cussler, and Michael Crichton, then RIPTIDE is the book for you. High-tech treasure hunters, pirates, and a mysterious "cursed" island are all part of the story. What more could you ask for?

Summary: Not there best......But not bad.
Review: "Riptide" started off with a good pace, it got me hyped up about reading this book, the whole story line was great ! I meen the pirates and the treasure, it sounded like it just might be there best. But.....No, sadly the story dies down to a weak, sad attempt to pull off a somewhat good treasure hunt.Dont get me wrong, it was somehow, enjoyable...Yet..Not very pleasing, the ending just blew it out of the water, that pretty much did it for me. Bad villian, bad ending. Ok, thats for all the bad things about this book, here are the good ( I bet you were wondering why I gave this book 4-Stars). We will start off with the Main charactor, he has a nice background, good female freind, and the author gives you somethings to be curious....About, But all in all you learn to care about this guy. Preston & Child did a very good job with there main charactor. So I must give them props for that. The writeing style fits me perfectly, I love they way they do things, and explain what is going on, they make sure, you know who everyone is, where they are, what is happening. They dont ever leave you in the dark, like some authors..... If you have read "RELIC" and thought it was bad, you just might like this one, it is totally diiferent, not so much a "Horror/Thriller" but a adventure, this is the first book of theres that they have that doesent really go for makeing people afraid of the dark.Personally, I have loved all there books so far. This book ranking in 3rd, from there four. It is still a good attempt to show off some of the writeing skills that they have. So, if you are a fan of Preston & Child, you have loved most of there books, and you whould like to read more of theirs, well then...I suggest this book. But if you have never read a Preston & Child book, this whould not be my first choice. Good, but not great.

Summary: Great story ends up goofy
Review: I thouroughly enjoyed the first half of Riptide. A great setup for a rollicking adventure story. Complete with pirates and hidden treasure. But towards the middle it starts to lag. The Preacher is a very shallow character as is his wife our hereos first love. It picks up again for a while but there are just too many shallow characters to keep track of. I had to read the last paragraph several times to believe they could end the book in such a Beavis and Butthead fashion.

Summary: Rip Roaring Fun!
Review: My first introduction to the collaborative efforts of Preston and Child came in the form of the movie adaptation of their first novel, RELIC. I was on a sort-of date with my then-fiance (now husband) and I remember wanting to see "something scary" at the movies. RELIC was playing, so off we went.

What a disappointment! Insipid, silly, and not even the slightest bit scary. I thought, well, maybe the book will be better.

I was wrong.

It sucked. Not as bad as the sequel, RELIQUARY, but it still stunk to high heaven. Flip-flopping perspectives, far too many characters which were poorly developed, and a contrived Monster of the Week sort of plot. In short, it was exactly what Hollywood would want in a book, not me.

And then came RIPTIDE. Okay, I thought... I'll give these guys ONE more chance. The fact that I got my copy of this book for free helped, too. One afternoon, just after Christmas, bored and looking for something quick to glance through while waiting for my husband to depart from work, I took the book with me. Within two chapters, I was hooked.

RIPTIDE tells the tale of Red Ned Ockham's buried treasure on a massively booby-trapped island off the coast of Maine. Built during the seventeenth century to protect the pirate's horde of stolen Spanish gold and other precious treasures, the Water Pit protects the vault nestled deep within the island. Many attempts had been made in the past twenty years to recover the treasure... to no avail. Either the parties involved went bankrupt. Or they died.

Now, urged by a mysterious, but extremely well-financed high-tech treasure hunter to open the island to yet another expedition, Malin Hatch returns to his hometown to confront former friends, teachers, and loves... and the haunted memory of his brother's death who died thirty years ago in one of the many booby traps set in, on, and around the Pit.

The character of Malin Hatch is well developed by the authors, the supporting characters, including the obsessed Captain Neidelman, the flirtatious archaeologist, Isobel, and the passionate town pastor, Woody Clay, suffer from a lack of attention. Adhering to Hatch's perspective throughout much of the book, however, readers are rewarded with a richly layered character, haunted by his past and tempted by his future. The authors submerge this treasure hunt in the world of high-technology and world-renown experts -- I really got the sense that such a treasure hunt could happen.

My husband had looked at my selection in reading material with great trepidation. Like me, he also did not care for the first two collaborations, and insisted that some monster or supernatural force would make an appearance. Or probably a sea creature. I'm happy to report that none of those things even makes the slightest mark on RIPTIDE, despite the seaworthy theme. The only monsters that Malin Hatch has to fight are greed and the weather. Oh, yes... and the sword of St. Michael.

I won't spoil what the sword is, or its significance. It wouldn't be fair. By the time I got to the last third of the novel, I was staying up later and later at night, trying to get to the next chapter, anxious to find out the secrets of Ragged Island and the mysterious Water Pit. Like Hatch, I wanted to know, and by golly, when I found out, I nearly fell out of my chair. The answer is so obvious, so apparent, so *perfect*, that I'd missed it!

I only hope that when Hollywood gets their grubby hands on this treasure of a ride, that they'll reward viewers with a spectacular production that will scare the pants off me.

Summary: Excellent!!!!!!!
Review: One of the best books I have read in quite a while. It is really unexpected and you never know what to expect. It contains several different elements of great novels. A must read!!!!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Classic Premise, Masterful Execution
Review: The plot is well-conceived and fast-paced, the characters hold your attention, and the action will keep you reading well into the night. If you think having a big, made-for-Hollywood-style story means you have to settle for shoddy writing -- think again. Though their work is meant to be sold to a mass audience, Preston and Child are still master craftsmen whose attention to detail never flags. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait for their next one!
