Rating: Summary: FUN READ Review: This was a very entertaining book to read. Would love to see it played out on TV or movie. With the right people, it could be a good comedy.
Rating: Summary: Phillips Reigns Devine! Review: You have to understand that SEP's worst are above and beyond many's best. Maybe that's why I was left with a faintly funny taste in my mouth. I had been dreaming of roast beef and I found chicken instead. Chicken's great it's just not roast beef. I felt that Nealy was more than a little unbelievable (she was the first lady!) but completed wonderful just the same. Her interaction with the hero's two daughters (kind of) was wonderfully witty, charming and more than a little beautiful. My eyes were a tad shiny during several scenes. I loved the hero, all of SEP's heroes are my favorites. They're a little selfish and immature but lovable and huggable just the same. Read this, just make sure you also read Honey Moon, Kiss an Angel and Heaven Texas as well.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT ESCAPE! Review: What a wonderful novel. A perfect "bathtub" book. Very good plotting, and the characters are first rate. Suspenseful but never scary and a happy ending. What a delight. This is the first book that I have read by Susan Elizabeth Phillips but it certainly won't be the last.
Rating: Summary: First Rate! Heartwarming Review: I truly appreciated the character development. Nealy from a dependent child and spouse to an independent, knowledgeable woman. Mat from a loner to a loving, family man. Lucy from a typical defensive abused child to an intelligent, giving young girl. The path for Nealy and Mat to find in each other the qualities that make a good relationship is rough. Trust and truth finally led them to the love they were searching for. Mat finally accepting that his life would be empty without a family and Nealy reaching out to Lucy to fulfil each other's dreams of a family was touching. The epilogue was the crowning touch to a fulfilment of all the characters. I actually hugged this book to my heart for all the warmth that was portrayed. I would like to see how Lucy fairs in the future. Any chance?
Rating: Summary: A bit of a disappointment Review: Believe it or not, I found this SEP book a drag. The storyline was unreal and I found the First Lady, Nealy, quite silly. Not much happens in this book to keep that emotional intensity found in Dream a Little Dream. Reread one of the old favorites 'cos that's what I'm going to do to remind myself SEP is one of the best authors. I hope her next book is 90% better. I don't want to loose the faith.
Rating: Summary: Another winner for Susan E. Phillips Review: This book packs the excitement and readability of her earlier works, "Fancy Pants" (Dallas and Franesca's story) and "It Had to Be You" (Dan and Phoebe's story)! If you can remember the names of the characters after reading the books over 5 years ago, that's saying something. From the opening chapter, I was hooked on this book. Ms. Phillips helped us to identify with Nealy's position and lifestyle. Mat was sensitive while still showing his masculinity. I really loved the interaction with the children. I laughed out loud during the motorhome hijack scene with Lucy. I'm sure I'll be reading this one again soon. If you want a feel good story without a lot of mindless subplots, pick up a copy of this one!
Rating: Summary: Inventive, sexy and wonderfully written Review: As usual, Susan Elizabeth Phillips delivers high quality writing and well developed characters. It is wonderful to see an author who is constantly developing her already impressive talent, and challenging herself to try new things. This is an author who has respect for her readers, and we love her for it!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful read--a book you don't want to end Review: I can't believe the negative reviews of this marvelous story. I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. It was totally believable that Nealy could fall in love 6-months after her sham marriage ended. This is extremely well handled and explained. My only regret is that I can't read it again for the first time!
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: Susan Elizabeth Phillips has been one of my favorite writers for years. I loved her earlier books where you could always count on her to break your heart AND make you smile and I love her lighter books. FIRST LADY kept me entranced from start to finish. The interaction between Matt, Nealy, Lucy, and Button in the Winnebago was priceless! The book kept me smiling, but there were plenty of deeper threads woven throughout the story that tugged at my heart. It takes tremendous skill as a writer to do both. I also loved the freshness of the plot. Bravo, SEP, you've won my heart again!
Rating: Summary: AN OK BOOK; REREAD HEAVEN, TEXAS Review: I was very disappointed with First Lady. The heroine was a complete nit wit. How can this woman fall in love so quickly after her husband's death? And to fall in love with such a boring character. I could not get into such an unbelievable story line. Save your money and reread Heaven, Texas.
