Rating: Summary: This is the reason I read Review: I have just recently discovered SEP. First Lady was my first book by this gifted Author and what a surprise. I loved every minute of it and hated when it ended. I have a younger brother that grew up with four sisters (and he wasn't even the oldest) and I promise you he is just a tad strange about women. (thank heavens he found a woman who grew up with four younger brothers). I found this hero to be realistic in many ways and so wonderful. I loved Neally and I have traveled across country in a motor home with teenagers and babies. I wish I could have had this book then maybe I could have seen the humor in it then that I see now, and hey folks the name of the game is romantic fiction. I read fiction cause I want to get away from the uglies of reality. Stick with it Susan. Make my heros wonderful, my heroines beautiful and their lives funny. I need it. Please!
Rating: Summary: Hail to the "First Lady" Review: I almost passed up this book...but something pulled me back to pick it up and read the back of the dust cover. I was immediately drawn to the story and couldn't wait to get started. Once I started to read, I didn't want to put it down...it became addictive. I'd read on my lunch hour, suddenly bursting out with laughter, and had a hard time closing the book to go back to work. I am hooked on Susan Elizabeth Phillips...so much that I'm ordering more of her books!
Rating: Summary: It was Okay Review: This book started off well and I liked the characters very much. Without trying to give anything away, I was very disappointed with the ending. I know this is fiction, but get real! How is anyone supposed to believe this would really happen!
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: This was a delightful, fun read. I found it non-threatening and loved following the characters, all of them, even Button, grow and evolve because of each other. This is a book to just plain enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I've enjoyed several of Ms. Phillips' books and expected to enjoy this one. Sadly, the best part of the book was the endnote indicating that her next book would be about return characters Kevin the football player and Molly, from "It Had to Be You". I'd give this one a pass.
Rating: Summary: A Delightful Read Review: For anyone who is a real fan of the romance genre, this book is a delightful romp. Susan Phillips has a way with words that is witty, humorous and thoroughly entertaining. I had great difficulty putting it down, and was so disapponted when I finished--so much so that I immediately ordered six more of her books. It's a book that makes you laugh and leaves you smiling.
Rating: Summary: Great book; A Must Read Review: First Lady is a great book. The way the character is developed is wonderful. If you have time, you should definately read it. The ending was great.
Rating: Summary: Not revolting, not a keeper, just more of the same Review: My first impression of First Lady was a sense of deja vu--hmm, a woman quashed by the political demands of an overbearing father and a husband who is a closet homosexual, where had I heard that before? Barbara Delinsky's Within Reach, of course. Just like Within Reach, our intrepid heroine escapes the confines of her restricted political life, all without revealing any messy details about her husband's private life. But, since this is the 00's, not the 80's, our heroine ends up in office, not a happy housewife, and there are problem children to take care of instead of indictments. Granted, the problem children are realistically cute and annoying, but the ending is over-the-top and cloying (would Andre really do a black power salute? Would our hero really become Our Correspondent In The White House? Not!).
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment Review: With great anticipation I bought this as we were heading to Florida on vacation. Because I was so certain it would be as wonderful as all of SEPs novels, I saved it for last. How sad that I should've read it first, just to get finished with it. I found Mat and Nealy to be not only underdeveloped, but lacking any of the sympathetic qualities I have come to expect from this author. They were, sadly, flat and annoying. The notable exceptions were the children, Lucy and Button who, like most children in SEPs novels, were delightful. While I certainly applaud the attempt to try a new kind of character, I look forward to Phillips' next novel.
Rating: Summary: One of SEP's best books since "Kiss an Angel" Review: This book was entertaining and kept me interested frombeginning to end. I liked the way that the author worked inhistorical information about the performances of past presidents. She also touched on interesting dilemnas, such as an individual's right to privacy vs. the public's desire to know as much as possible about a beloved public figure like First Lady Cornelia. The constant name-dropping, though got tiresome after a while. Cornelia got make up tips from Sandra Bullock, and called former first ladies Reagan, Bush and Clinton for advice.
