Summary: Just loved it!
Review: This book finds a dad for a baby & for a teenager with a bleak past & even bleaker future; it finds a family for a man that thinks he wants to live alone; & it finds a warm, loving, fun family for a woman that has only known a cold, politically correct family (& life in general). The first couple of chapters I just thought it sounded really sad & serious; the rest of the first half I laughed over & over; then it went from heart-wrenching, to heart-melting, back to heart-wrenching (with laughs thrown in thoughout it at the oddest moments). I started it one afternoon, had to quit for a few hours, then read til my eyes hurt, & got back up the next morning & just HAD to know how it all worked out! (Bad, bad girl Jojo! lol)
SEP has done an excellent job of making feelings just jump off the pages. There are a multitude of characters that added so many special parts to the story. I can't recommend it enough to those that enjoy a warm, funny, heart-wrenching, courageous romance with a really sexy hero & a strong, intelligent heroine, & great sense of family. This is the reason I love SEP's writing.

Summary: I wish there was a No star
Review: I had the hardest time finishing this book. I just couldn't get into the characters. It was not a fast read at all. I picked it up because I thought it would be a good story and while there was a plot to it it just didn't grab my attention.

Summary: Great, if a little far-fetched.
Review: The characters were very interesting, Nealy and Mat were wonderful, as were the kids, especially the teenage girl. The ending was very sweet.
The political part of this book is not believable, simply because it will probably never happen. I was very proud of the way Mat handled Nealy's fame, however. What a great guy he was!
Not quite as much romance as others I've read, but this is definitely a book worth reading.

Summary: I had a delightful day, even re reading it
Review: I did like it the first time, read it last summer.
Then I bought it recently and was very pleased to read it again.

Why tell what is is about ? Relationship. Difficulties of being poor, and being on the top too. How important warm and determination is. But all that is only underlying. It is a really delightful read.

Summary: A Fun Page Turner....
Review: I finished this book in one day and while I realize it is first and foremost a romance, it had an excellent plot to it which kept me on my toes. It was fun to read and the characters are vibrant and realistic, especially the kids. I was a bit disappointed in the predictable, yet far-fetched ending but it wasn't enough to ruin the whole story for me.

Summary: A Winner!
Review: I really enjoyed this book and would have given it 5 stars except that the ending was only 4 stars. The story is about a First Lady of the United States who seeks an adventure by escaping the constant security she has lived with her whole life. She simply leaves the White House one day in disguise and sets out to be ordinary even if just for a time. She meets up with a man and 2 children and the adventure begins. I liked the characters and found her interesting. It was a fun read.

Summary: Great Read
Review: First Lady is my first experience with Susan Elizabeth Phillips. A couple of friends of mine introduced me to her. They love her books and told me to try one. I chose First Lady. This was a book that made you smile in every chapter. The characters Nealy and Mat were both well rounded.

Nealy was the wife of the President of the United States. He dies and she wants to move on with her life, but her father and the Vice President who is now President have other plans for her. They ask her to stay on as the First Lady of the United States. Nealy thinks their crazy and creates a plan to get out of the White House. She just wants to live a regular life or at the very least see what a normal life is like. She dresses up as an old woman and mixes in with the crowd who is on a tour of the White House. Later she buys a car for a couple thousand dollars and dresses as a pregnant woman down on her luck. When she stops for gas, she leaves the keys in the car by mistake. She comes out the car is gone. She decides she would buy another car, but the problem was her money was in the trunk.

Mat Jorik is a journalist that isn't having any luck lately. He gets a call from his ex-wife's attorney stating she had died and that he was named the father to her two young daughters. Mat isn't trying to hear it. He grew up in a house full of women and he had enough of it. He would try to find the children's grandmother and give them to her. The attorney warned him that blood tests had to be done to see if he really was the father or not. Mat decided to take the girls in their old Winneabago and go to their grandmother's house in Iowa. When they stopped for gas this is where he mets Nealy, but she was going by the name of Nell. Mat makes a deal with Nealy, she would take care of Button the infant and he would give her a free ride. They are then off on their adventure.

If I keep going I'm going to give away all the good stuff. Just know that this is a delightful read and SEP is a wonderful author. This book had me laughing in almost every chapter. I'm going to pickup another book by her to read next.
Excellent.

Summary: A daring change of pace for Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
Review: Susan Elizabeth Phillips' fans have come to expect first-rate romances with enganging characters and lots of humor. "First Lady" certainly delivers on those fronts, but it is nonetheless an intriguing change for this leader in contemporary romance. The plot is a difficult one, and I can't imagine any other author handling it so well. It's actually a pretty complex plot, but Phillips does an excellent job of bringing the details all together and keeping the plot flowing. The heart of the story is the relationship between First Lady in disguise Nealy Case and rugged Mat Jorik, a burnt out journalist struggling to find a home for the daughters of his recently deceased ex-wife. Not only does Phillips plausibly bring these two soulmates together, but she also manages to introduce a wonderful cast of secondary characters. The romance alternates from steamy to incredibly sweet and touching. This is an excellent read and lots of fun.

Summary: v's laugh-o-meter: 9 (out of 10)
Review: I really enjoyed this book. At first I thought the premise was assinine but then the willing suspension of disbelief kicked in and I found it a blast to read. I particularly liked the fact that the characters were clever and likable and many of the interactions were genuinely funny - I found myself chuckling out loud multiple times! When was the last time THAT happened? A very engaging love story that can make you laugh? Who'd'a thunk. In light of the fact that I have a real aversion toward politicians, I was surprised at how much I liked this one.
