Summary: A fantastic depiction of ancient Egypt
Review: I found myself doling out the number of pages I read because I didn't want the book to end. I was mesmerized. I have read the Seventh Scroll and hope there will be a third book on the same subject matter.

Summary: Best book ever. Couldn't put it down
Review: I was only 11 when I read this 654 page book. I understood every word and paragraph, not like other adult books that aren't focused and confusing. I savored it till the very last word. I now read Wilbur Smith books all of the time and I'm not dissapointed with any. Even now as a 13 year old I still remember every word of it.

Summary: Couldn't find a better book !!!!
Review: This book should be a movie , I cried , laughed , and shared the excitment like I was part of it , imagine what it would be like on screen !!! reading The River God was an amazing experince, I couldn't stop reading once I started , I felt that I was in 'This very Egypt' . I fell in love with Taita, Tanus, and Lostris to the point that I painted a picture of all three on the Breath of Horus with a good view of the Pyramids in the background . " Good Job Wilbur Smith "

Summary: I hated the book
Review: I tried to read this book some time ago and I just noticed this page. I could not finish the book as it was entirely too prurient in its discussion of some things and sadly lacking in others, including character development. I was very disappointed, having paid full price for the hard backed version.

Summary: This book encompasses everything any literary fan could want
Review: As a great lover of all that is Egyptian, this book was spellbinding. I gives a fictional account of the historical context of egyptian history. I could not put this book down, and being a student this led to many a tiresom morning! I reccomend this book highly to all in the mood for a great adventure!

Summary: Atrocious book. Immediately forgettable.
Review: I have seldom read such a horrible book. I clearly need to buy some better light reading. This novel purports to be set in Ancient Egypt and is full of pungeant detail, presented clumsily and inaccurately. I honestly don't know why I continued beyond the gratuitous and ugly violence of the first 50 or so pages. If you like historical fiction based in Ancient Egypt - look elsewhere. Try Gedge or almost anyone else. Gedge is a master; Smith appears to be a pedestrian.

Summary: If you liked the book, GET THE TAPE
Review: I really can't add much to the praise already given by the reviewers for this book. But I can add that the audio tape is just awesome. The reader (Dick Hill) is so fabulous that I hated to get out of the car. Taita was so alive through him, I feel I know him. If you liked Kratus and his blaspheming oaths as much as I did, wait until you hear Hill's reading of them. I laughed out loud at every one. I was so sorry to see it end, I could have cried. (But I have his reading of the new Harry Bosch novel ready to slip in for another set of great driving hours).

DICK HILL - may he live forever!!!!! (And may he read forever)

Summary: Long and rambling, but enjoyable all the way
Review: I almost made the mistake of quitting this book early. The beginning had a little too much sexual mutilation and savagery to suit me. I only kept on because I was listening to tapes. This book has much more than that.

Now, I'm on the last tape, and am so sad the story is coming to an end. This is a fabulous, intricate tale, with gory, tender and funny parts in equal measure. Don't read many more of the reviews, however. They contain spoilers, and I was extremely dismayed to find out things I don't know about yet. I wish people wouldn't do this when writing reviews.
