Summary: Fun Story
Review: I read for relaxation and escape and this story is both. The plot is fairly uncomplicated and has more of a romance twist than technological. Nimesha and the other females of her family are shown as strong, business-wise and responsible in a society where many of it's "elite" are irresponsible and uncaring. When Nimesha becomes "stranded" in an unknown sector of the galaxy, she joins other survivors of the wormhole in building a society on a reasonably hospitable planet. There are exploration trips to nearby planets and plans to return for more indepth analysis that are in the future plans. Not all the beasties on Erehwon are friendly! This book has opened a whole new area of endeavor for Ms. McCaffrey now that she has concluded her Rowan series, and I hope that she visits Nimesha again and lets us know how she prospers.

Summary: Not Wonderful But Still A Very Good Read
Review: I really enjoyed the book even though it was not full of suspense and intrigue. I do feel that she could have gone into greater detail over the corrupt Lady and Lord Vs and their attempts on Cuivia (it did seem a bit too sugary how every thing was easily solved). But I still enjoyed the book and it helped me recover from studying.

Summary: An enjoyable read!
Review: I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to all readers. I didn't want to put it down at all. For those heavily into blood and guts give it a miss but most others will find it enjoyable. Hopefully this is the start of a new series!! Keep writing, Anne and I'll keep reading.

Summary: A thoroughly good read
Review: I really enjoyed this one. It wasn't too technical (as some stories can be), the character development was good and the pace was quick. McCaffrey always spins a good story, and this is no exception. I base my like/dislike of a story on whether or not it "takes me away" -- this one did. Well worth it.

Summary: Not Recommended
Review: I think Anne made a bet with someone to see if her name would be sufficient to get "dreck" published. That's what this book is--"dreck". Let me tell you how I really feel, this book is awful. If you are an Anne McCaffrey fan, don't buy this book as you won't stay a fan after the experience.

Summary: Soporific
Review: I've never read Anne McCaffrey until recently due to positive recommendations. I just finished reading Nimisha's Ship. What a yawn! The first half of the book had some potential. It nicely described an almost Victorian society with genteel values, set in a futuristic, hi-tech environment.

The foundation was laid for a thrilling adventure. We had the heroine Nimisha, an independent, intelligent young woman of the highest social standing, a remarkable, one-of-a-kind ship with novel AI capabilities, a wormhole to deliver the heroine to an unknown part of the galaxy, an earth-like planet with aliens. And, well, sorry folks, that's as good as it gets!

McCaffrey then degenerates into the same drivel she dished out in the Freedom series. You get endless small-talk and chit-chat that doesn't go anywhere, anything the protagonists do is always easy and successful, the heroine turns into a baby factory and gets reunited with her first born daughter.

McCaffrey obviously doesn't have much of a sense for science and technology. This is evident by scant references to technical concepts. I know this is usually desirable as there is nothing to date the story, but the dearth of such explanations only reinforces her ignorance. What is worse is that what jargon she does use has been lifted straight from Star Trek (Voyager)!

For example, we have an AI doc with a sassy attitude, hyposprays, tractor beams, the prime directive (of non-interference), universal translators, M-Type planets and Interstellar Speed 3 (Warp 3).

Do yourself a favor, give this a big miss.

Summary: Another winner from Anne McCaffrey!
Review: It is a fabulous story, masterfully told with interesting characters and detailed scenery.  Part of it has strong shades of the Doona series (learning to communicate with a new alien race), but written with much greater realism and sophistication;  really shows Anne's development as a writer over the last 30+ years.  The main plot is a bit slow to get going:  the tale casually flows along for several chapters, written in a somewhat distanced, summarizing form which reminded me of some of Robin McKinley's writting.   This is not at all a bad thing--just not what I'm used to from Anne.  Once the tale picks up steam, it doesn't stop--just gets better and better.  The final scene was so fitting and beautiful, I was laughing and giggling and grinning like a fool 'til the final words!

Summary: Stardust
Review: Maroon Killashandra on Doona, have her meet an even more empathic and supportive Sean Shongili, extract all suspense and danger, and you'll have _Nimisha's Ship_. Unlike memorable McCaffrey heroines of yore, Nimisha has no need to grow and change, as she's brilliant, beautiful, poised, and powerful from the early pages. Even being marooned on a planet with defeated exploratory teams barely ruffles her hair or mars her manicure. It's a good thing the early settlers of Pern did not have Nimisha's ship-design skills, as they would have developed a high technological civilization in approximately 25 minutes, and we would have been denied some of McCaffrey's best books.

Summary: A new low.
Review: Nimisha's ship is about as exiting as staring at a grey wall. The main characters are flatter than Holland (I'm an expert on that)and the action is almost nonexistent.

Its a book about a handsome rich, aristocratic girl genius who gets a shipyard for free. Being a genius she promptly invents a supership and does the only sensible thing she could have done with it: fall through a wormhole and disappear. Unfortunately the misery doesn't stop here but drags on for a couple of hundred pages that can be put to good use in any toilet of your choice. Good grief...

If you like this one, other good books are: Famous Jemenite sportsmen, The British manual for making pasionate love and The Hongkong telephone directory.

Summary: A Slow Deterioration of a Great Reputation..
Review: Oh, Mrs. McCaffrey, stop it! You are beginning to really hurt your true fans. The latest offerings, most especially Nimisha's Ship, have got me wondering just what it is that makes me love your books so much. I will buy anything you publish, as in the past that has been rewarded, but now I'm getting leary. The possibilities for this book were bountiful, truly up to standard for a great writer, but the execution left much up to the imagination. This is not why Anne became a goddess to me. If you are new to the books, start with Pern and skip this one entirely.
