I didn't like "The Rowen," so I didn't read the series, and it was a long series. This is the start of a new series and a good novel in itself. Its set in an interesting society where no one seems to be married. At some time in your extended lifespan, you contract with someone of the opposite sex to produce an heir. All other liaisons are purely for sexual gratification. Seems more like what a man would think of as a perfect society. There's some pretty good action and adventure on a dangerous planet on the far side of the galaxy. The characters are well developed and likeable. The technology is plausible but really not part of the story. It did seem odd that there had been no advances in genetic engineering or nano-technology (unless the food production machinery in the space ships was nano-technology based).
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: interesting... Review: I liked this book for the most part, it entertained me and provided good descriptions of fascinating worlds. However, I think that she could have toned down the sex just a little bit, the random love sessions without any love kind of did ruin the plot. The only real romance in the story, furthermore, could use to have been better developed. Also, that part towards the end where everyone keeps having babies was confusing and seemed sort of choppy and moved too fast without having smooth transitions -- several years passed in the story before the I was aware of it, and it took rereading a few paragraphs to figure out what was going on.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: I liked it! Review: I liked this book! I enjoyed the characters and the plot. Nimisha is a strong women that is smart and capable of being on her own. She becomes heir to her father's shipyard and only inproves the business and ships. Her masterpiece, Fiver, is a ship that has had years in the making. Nimisha takes Fiver out on the maiden voyage and the unexpected happens. Of course, this book isn't the Pern series, but I enjoyed it none the less. There are many things that could happen in the next book that I can not wait to find out. If you enjoyed Pern and Freedom's series, than I strongly recommend Nimisha's ship.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: How Disappointing Review: I love Anne McCaffrey's work and was glad to see a new direction. Until I started reading it. What I found was a family structure that seemed cobbled together from Mario Puzo's Godfather and Frank Herbert's Bene Gesserit. When I started finding elements of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and then Voyager, I had to put the book down. It's too much of bits and pieces strung together to try to resemble something original. It fails, badly. This is one manuscript that should have been relegated to the recycling bin.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Who Cares About Nimisha? Review: I love Anne McCaffrey. I've been reading her books for nearly fifteen years now; the Pern books were the first science fiction books I ever read. All I can say is, "What happened, Anne?" Nimisha is *boring.* There isn't a moment where I'm concerned about the characters. Her "enemy" is practically nonexistent. Even romances should come with *some* dramatic tension - if you want a *good* romance novel, try Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" books. Leave Nimisha cast away with her twins and triplets.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: NIMISHA'S SHIP SINKS Review: I LOVE MacCaffrey, but this tale, had no suspense and darn little romance. The heroine faces absolutely no adversity that might build her character except her mother's frown. When she does manage to get lost in space, she finds a new planet, other shipwrecked people to keep her company, a Swiss Family Robinson type crashed freighter that supplies everything needed for comfort, aliens that are both friendly and cute, and her own true love. And even the course of true love runs so smooth that nothing really happens. Yaaaaawwwwwnnnnnnn Proves good conflict makes a good book and this one didn't have it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: How Anne writes her books, the focus is on Nimisha's Ship Review: I loved the book! I enjoyed reading about Nimisha's early years. So many times we don't get that background info 'first hand' and I love that sort of thing. I thought the way she kept the two planets totally separate was neat. My focus was on each situation and the characters involved not waffling back and forth. In fact the 'early years' seemed like a different book almost. The body heir and neck tattoo and the ceremony are another of my favorite things about the book. I'm glad that Anne expanded on that from THE COELURA. The characterizations were super (as always). That is one of the best parts of Anne's writing. I get to know the characters and their personalities. I look forward to another adventure in this universe!
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: I Swear this was written and performed for children Review: I needed a few audiobooks to take on a long drive and took a chance on this one. Big mistake. It is written and read at the level of a 10 year old, and was an insult to my intelligence. The only reason I even listened to the whole thing was because my radio's attenna was broken! Don't bother with this unless your kids are into sci-fi!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Better than expected Review: I put off buying this book based on all the negative reviews and picked up a hardcover at less than paperback prices just a few weeks ago... read it in one sitting which I hadn't expected after all the comments about no conflict/suspense....and found it very enjoyable although not my favorite book by Anne - and I've read most of them. I enjoyed reading all the background provided in the first part of the book and getting the feel of a new SF society - these were up to Anne's usual high standard in my opinion. I also did not think the characters are one dimensional or flat as some other reviewers have mentioned, maybe more subtle. Perhaps it is because this book is meant to be the first in a series - and more development will occur later. Regardless, I enjoyed meeting all these new people although I'd have like more on the Sh'im individuals. This book is not for someone who likes SF books with lots of violence, running battles and other ACTION to make it move along, but it should satisfy otherwise.
