Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: It's an improvement . . . Review: . . . over recent McCaffrey novels. Nimisha's Ship is a return to the universe described in The Coelura. This is the first McCaffrey novel I have read in quite a while that didn't involve a relentlessly dull journey to a fatuously happy ending. It will keep you turning the pages, but it's not really hard SF - none of her novels are - just an adventure-type plot with some SF devices such as AI computers and space travel. She has totally passed up the opporunity to explore the social implications of the body-heir system, in my opinion. It's a good read as long as you don't expect too much intellectual stimulation. And I wouldn't recommend spending the money for the hardcover edition, to be blunt.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A fast pased love story Review: A refreshing read as the novel combineds relationships, tech-advances, and aliens. The social structure of the First Families is not such a far-off concept that it would be unacceptable. McCaffrey stays true to the usage of heroines (at least in the novels I have read). Yet this story, though the tech is impressive as is the "fictional sicience", is dominated by the relationships between the characters. McCaffrey has to be one of those few writers that can create very real and memorable characters. The only missing thing from the story was the lack of development in the Sh'im. Their relations with each other and the humans would have added to the depth of the novel.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: "...................................." Review: Anne McCaffrey has done better. The book's heroine is perfect from the getgo, faces no challenges, and leads a perfect life(more or less). This work seems disjointed, leaving the possible culmination of a conflict with her sire's other child (Vestrin) in favor of a happily-ever-after-ending, literally on the opposite side of the galaxy. One must wonder if in the middle of writing it she decided to change the plot sructure, you can point to the spot where the two different elements diverge. I enjoyed it and have read it four times in the last six years, but it fails to compare to her other works. The only solace I find is in the possibility of another alien encounter in a sequel alluded to at the end with the mention of engine traces. Buy it, but don't count on it to enthral you.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Nimisha's Ship doesn't really measure up. Review: First and foremost let me say that I am a ravid McCaffrey fan, and I read all her SF. I don't think there is anyone else half as good in the SF field as a writer. However, I found many disturbing things about Nimisha's Ship, that in my opinion darkens its intrest. First of all, (and no disrespect to the author, but) I found the characters; Nimisha Boynaton-Rondymense, Cuiva, and their dam to be quite the opposite of what was displayed in the original, Coelura. For one thing the characters were all static and never really grew. Nimisha in particular held little flare, as far as growth and change go. She starts off adventurous, continues as a Teen as thus and at 18 seems like she's ready to take on the entire universe herself. The other main characters have similar problems, but seem to work past them. Near the end, Nimisha decides to marry and have children with an old stuffy marine(I'm sorry, but's the way it comes off). This is perhaps the most inexcusable of plot twists, because for one thing Nimisha really has no obligation to stay on Erehwon at all. To think that someone of her political and professionalism would simply throw caution to the wind and retire to some hell-begotten planet at such a young age is simply unbeilievable. Why would someone as sensible and business-minded as Nimisha decide to just 'give-up hope of survival' and start making a family in the hopes that someday, someone MIGHT decided to rescue them is proposterous when she has her own lightspeed vessel at her disposal. As well as sufficent suspended animation tubes for her own personal use. And while I'm on the topic, why didn't she take anyone with her in the first place? Makes little sense. In short, if you're looking for a good McCaffrey classic, I would be forced to suggest other good ones than this.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Not Bad... Review: First off, this book is not to be compared with books in which every ten pages someone is off in a bedroom somewhere, or battling the evil forces and putting themselves in extreme danger only to be saved with 30 seconds to spare. It is a story about family. It is a simply written, gentle story involving social-ranks, family ties, survival and love. Unfortunately, the cover-art on my library's hardcover version is selling the book to the wrong people; it depicts an action scene which never occurs in the book. 'Nimisha's Ship' is a easy-to read story which is aimed at the gentler side of readers, not always Anne McCaffrey's style. However, it IS very nice to read.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Well, the title fits.. Review: First..I am a McCaffrey fan...but this book doesn't really live up to some of her previous novels...high on special effects, and neglects plot and dialogue...I mean, we have a couple of really great nasty villains...who basically stay in the background and make threatening noises, and a wondrous ship, which is more like a deus ex machina than anything else. I know that technology is by definition unbelievably advanced in the future, but the stuff she has the Ship doing really strains credibility unless the AI is developing sentience...c'mon, Anne, you can do better.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: A hopeless dog Review: Follows a too much of a formula; problems are solved far to easily; the baddies are stupid and lazy and fade from the scene early; there is not even a climax. There is a huge amount of potential in this story, but it bubbles into the ooze with nary a whimper. Don't waste your money.
