Rating: Summary: An audio blunder Review: If you are a fan of "The lord of the rings" audio version by the BBC, BE ADVISED THIS IS NOTHING LIKE THAT! This version of The Hobbit sounds like a group of elementarry children put it together.I realize that the hobbits are little, but the way their voices are on this version is similar to the lollipop guild from the wizard of oz. Very irritating. This is truly a version for children.
Rating: Summary: Oh, the disappointment! Review: If you are looking for an audio work in the same caliber as the BBC's Lord of the Rings DO NOT BUY THIS!! The audio quality is poor (obviously not remastered for the CD version), the characterization weak, and the first person recounting terrible. I have listened to the BBC's LOTR several times going to and from work and had eagerly anticipated listening to the BBC's Hobbit, but could only stand a minute or two once I actually got it!
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this CD. Review: It would be hard to imagine that there could be a worse recording of The Hobbit than this one. I have never heard such awful acting. My spine twinged the whole time I listened. I could only get through 1 & 1/2 of the five CD's before I could bear no more. I practically ripped the thing out of the CD player and through it out the window (I was listening to it while driving). The "actors" yell, scream and hiss their lines. It is very difficult to hear what they are saying. Imagine a group of 3rd graders acting this out without a script, and you get the picture.I have also found out that the 5th CD is just music. I can't believe anyone would allow such a poor representation of this wonderful story. When they get to Gollum (which they pronounce Galloom), he hisses so horribly loud and screams the rest of the time. This is truly awful stuff. If you want a CD version of this, go for the unabridged one that Recorded Books puts out with Rob Inglis narrating.
Rating: Summary: Poor audio quality Review: J.R.R. Tolkien's classic, "The Hobbit" is definately a 5-star affair. Having read, and re-read this wonderful tale many times, I was distinctly disappointed with the performance quality of this BBC audio production. The somewhat hokey background sounds distract from the storyline, and often are so loud that you cannot hear what the performers are saying anyway. The Hobbit is a classic, endearing story. I would not recommend this performance.
Rating: Summary: Finest stand-alone fantasy book I have read Review: JRR Tolkien is the (in my mind) undisputed guru of fantasy and this book kicks it all off. This is one of the greatest books (along with the Lord of the Rings trilogy) in print. Buy it.
Rating: Summary: The standard for all fantasy books, Review: Look at the publication date, it is a timeless clasic. This book starts near the end of the series and interlocks itself with details that one reading can not reviel. The start is a little slow and thus not for people who want a quicky disposable story to be forgotten after being read. The book becomes even more enjoyable after the lord of the rings and the silmarillion have been read. I have read it many times and am continously finding more and more interwoven details from book to book. The start of the best!!!!
Rating: Summary: Best book ever writen Review: People all over the world should read this book because it is exciting and full of little people. It is a good travel book because it is so long and I coulden't put it down!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: It's a key to the most exciting new world ever known! Review: The best creation of all time
Rating: Summary: A masterpiece made for your ears! Review: The first time I read The Hobbit, I was in 4th grade. I remember being captivated by the excellent imagery and wonderful storytelling. It was so great that I had nightmares about the giant spiders of Murkwood for weeks! So I was delighted to come across the BBC version of this. It is so much more than a guy with a British accent reading Tolkien's words - it is more like a stageplay for your ears! I meant to ration myself to one side of a tape per day, but after listening to the first I gave in and listened to the rest nonstop.
