Rating: Summary: Worth every penny. Review: I found this book by accident when it first came out, and now, a few years later, I still re-read it quite often. I'll keep this short and sweet:This book introduced me to Tad Williams. I have now read a ton of his books. His short story "The Burning Man" was incredible. I've always been a huge Robert Jordan fan. "New Spring" is another fantastic addition to his masterpiece, The Wheel of Time. (For a detailed review of this story, check out my article at http://www.dragonmount.com/Books/New_Spring) "Grinning Man", "The Hedge Knight", and "The Woood Boy" are also great stories within this book. If you're looking for a wonderful collection of stories from today's best fantasy writers, this is THE book to have.
Rating: Summary: If you can't finish a story in 3 volumes... Review: The book proves that writers of fantasy sagas are entirely out of their depth when limited to less than 100 pages. The one stirling exception is George RR Martin's "The Hedge Knight" - what a fantastic writer to be able to write something like that as well as the compelling multi-volume "Song of Fire and Ice"! Anne McCaffrey is a distant second in this compilation..forget about Robert Jordan. If you can finish "The Hedge Knight" while standing in the book store, that's all you want from this book!
Rating: Summary: Not a dud Review: This book was really well put together. My favorite of all the stories was Robert Jordan's New Spring. It might be hard for people to understand if they do not read the other Wheel of Time books because they are very detailed. IT may be a good place to start though because it takes place before the series begins. It is not as good as the other books but it is still entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Review of Legends Series, Vol. 2 [Abridged] Review: Purchased for a 11 hour road trip at some outlet store on the Oregon/CA border, this audio cassette exceeded my all of my expectations. The Robert Jordan "New Spring" read by Sam Tsoutsouvas, captured my attention and didn't let it go. Spanning 2 cassette tapes, I just didn't want the story to end, I wanted to hear more about the Aes Sedai and of the characters in the series. Overall, the best story out of this audio book collection. As a teaser prequel to the Wheel of Time series, this story does its job. "Discworld: The Sea and Little Fishes" story was annoying to me, I don't know why. It started out rather slowly and since I was driving at the time, having something boring to listen to is not exactly a good thing. Perhaps it was the reader's shrill voice, but the story was tolerable. The first time, I skipped over this story since I wanted to hear the Robert Jordan story (His WoT series has been mentioned to me at least 10 different times by several different friends). "Grinning Man" was an interesting tale that I know I've read somewhere before. It was a short story that involved meeting Davy Crockett. Another tale that left me wanting more. Each reader did his/her best to read the story and presented it in a way that gave the story life. I would recommend this collection to anyone that wants a taste of what the fantasy genre is about, the Robert Jordan epic alone should help you decide. The Terry Pratchett story Discworld, is not a good representation of his/her work...at least I hope it isn't. I still play "New Spring" by Robert Jordan in my tape deck. It is THAT good a story.

Rating: Summary: Phenomenal Review: I bought this book (#3 only) as a Terry Prachett Fan. I have since bought Tad Williams's Trilogy, and all of the Jordan books. I was impressed by all 4 writers and have broadened my horizons in some fantastic fantasy books. This book is a great intro to modern fantasy wrting, for those who love Tolkein and haven't read anything new (like I was before reading this).
Rating: Summary: The Legend Series Review: To those of you who have read the previously entered reviews of Legends 1,2, and3 and found them less than satisfactory. You must remember that the Legend series orriginally came out as a hardcover book comprising all three books. Do not judge 2 and 3 compared to 1. they are all the same book just in different parts so as to make it easier to publish in paperback form. All the stories in the Legends series are great back ground stories from our favorite series. Look for the Authors you read and enjoy the ones you haven't read. Who knows you might like their stories too.
Rating: Summary: George R. R. Martin proves himself once again! Review: 5 Stars for The Hedge Knight! Most of the other stories were ok, but The Hedge Knight was amazing work, up to Martin's standard of excellence - again, perfectly paced story, with good humor, good twists and excellent storytelling. The book is worth buying just for this great tale! And, if you haven't read A Game of Thrones or A Clash of Kings - it will convince you to! It is said that we find out what happened to the main character in The Hedge Knight in Martin's 3rd book from A Song of Ice and Fire Series, A Storm of Swords.
Rating: Summary: Why was it made? Review: This book, not deserving the name of Terry Goodkind in it is a poor copy of Legends 1. with way less storys they are all quite boring ones. Legends 1 has 11 interesting stories that I actually enjoyed. I would not recomend this book to people though I would recamend Legends 1
Rating: Summary: Some good, some not Review: All told, an enjoyable read. Terry Goodkind's story lacked his usual depth of character, but that can be expected in a piece roughly one-sixth the length of a typical Goodkind book. Still, a very good story about one of fantasy's most lovable characters. George R.R. Martin hits a grand slam in his story of the Hedge Knight. Great characters, wonderful storyline, lots of action. That story alone has convinced me to read the rest of his work. However, Runner of Pern was an enormous disappoint to me. If you're looking for a Harlequin Romance type of poor-girl-gets-miffed-at-rich-boy-before-falling-for-him schtick, this one is for you. Otherwise, skip it and read more work by Goodkind and Martin.
