Summary: Wow! THe action. Wow! the irony.
Review: A son returns to Vietnam as a Force Recon Marine on a mission in the country where his father died in an earlier war. And kills the son of a Vietnamese father in the process.

Lotta irony here. To go along with the action of other book. I like the Native American character, Night Runner. He's a tour d' force in this series, now that I've gone back to read the whole series from the start.

I agree with those who said the first book had some stock characters. But Wow. How they've grown up. Fully developed. Fully believable. No wonder we admire our military. These are the real Marines in action.

Thanks again, James, for a great series. Keep them coming.

Review: Man, I love this series, especially Robert Night Runner, but this story was disappointing. It had some great potential, however.
But fell way short for me because of the lack of character descriptions, story progression, and drab action scenes.
What happened to this series since DEEP STRIKE? The last 2 novels are falling way short of putting this series over the top. The lackluster in some areas of the story are starting to show.
The most interesting characters of this newest novel is the battle between Night Runner and the Montagnard and his tiger. But the ending resulting battle was a let-down. I was really looking forward to a mano-a-mano fight between these two, but it was not meant to be. Damn!
The good part of this novel was the surprising set of the Vietnam of today, along with Zavello getting out into the field. The promise of Swayne's father perhaps being one of the POW's. These were all the strengths of this story.
But all this was dashed away as the story was quagmired into too much gadgetry and not enough substance.
God, I hope this series comes back, stronger than ever.
It's only the fact that Sgt. Robert Night Runner is such a strong character that keeps me coming back for more. His background and ever-changing character exceeds the other characters, and now the very fabric of the storyline.

Summary: Gritty, funny, very, very good stuff
Review: The combat scenes made me duck for cover. The black humor made me laugh. You always know you've picked up a good book when even the enemy soldiers make you feel their pain. Man, for a while there, I thought I'd have to call a medic to treat me!

Nice work, James. Your books are a cut above some of the action stories I've followed. I'll be going back to read your series from the start. And I'll be looking for number 7 to come. Tell me we've not seen the end of Night Runner!!
