Rating: Summary: Breathtaking Pre-historic Saga Review: Set in ice-age earth. Ayla has left the cavemen that have raised her in search for her own people. This novel was fascinating, being set with just the main character and her survival skills in a pre-historic world, with cave-bears, mammoths and other dangerous creatures. She found contentment on her own with her animal friends. I found this not only educational but it also drew me into Ayla's world. She leaves her valley in the end after finding love in a tall stranger from the north. Read Clan of the Cave Bear first to better appreciate this novel, you will not be disappointed. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: An Overall Great Book Review: I've read all of the books up to The Shelters of Stone, and I only found one thing wrong with this one.Okay......two things.First of all, when Jondalar is teaching Ayla to talk, it is very highly doubtful that his language is English. The word she sounds out,(water) would be a neanderthal word, not English. It's fine when they are talking regularly, but she sounds it out as an English word; water. The other thing that bugs me is that the book gets a little slow at parts.I think this is a great read, but my favorite book is definetly The Mammoth Hunters.
Rating: Summary: This is my favorite!! Review: I liked this book the best of the series. Don't ask me why, since it seemed to drag a bit (but then, they all do that) I'm really looking forward to the last book-maybe it won't end in the middle of nowhere!!
Rating: Summary: the great sex scenes were a big surprise! Review: if the first book got you rialed up the second one will definately accomplish that again. . . and more! i think there is a little too much "recapping" of the first story for the readers, but the quality character development and storyline do not disappoint. ayla learns to live alone and be happy and then she learns what it's like to fall in love. you really do hope that SOMEHOW the two main characters hook up. the plot is not as simple as that--there are many twists to keep it interesting and many steamy scenes especially at the end! i'm definately looking forward to the sequels.
Rating: Summary: A fabulous sequel - Must read! Review: This is such a wonderful book that chronicles Ayla's journey alone after being banished from her clan in the first book. The detailing of her fight for survival from the elements in the valley, her encounters with other animals that share the valley as their homes, her on-going struggle to find peace with herself after losing her son and yearning to find her own people and her eventual rescue of her soul mate, Jondalah, is just pure magic to read. The romance, the splendor of the valley and the heart breaking reconcilation of Ayla and Jondalah is just some of the many reasons why this book is a page turner for me. Not for the cynical and jaded.
Rating: Summary: A real change of pace from the first book Review: I have to say that I was very dissapointed reading this book after having just finished Clan. The former book was absolutely ground breaking--an insight into an alien culture that said as much about the Clan as it did us. But this book, is more of a romance/survival/animal friendship story. To me it read like a combination of "The Blue Lagoon" meets "The Black Stallion" meets "McGyver" meets "Lassie". Ayla spends the first half of the book befriending wild animals and independently inventing most of the major innovations of the stone age. Then she meets a man that is a wandering Casanova who has never really fallen in love with anyone. Will Ayla be able to tame him and get this "bad boy" to finally settle down? You'll have to read through many missunderstandings and lost oportunities to find out.
Rating: Summary: Transported Review: This book totally transported me to another time and place. I became one with the book. The characters come alive. I felt her lonelines, her strength, her love and compassion for her only companions, her animals. I couldn't put the book down and was sorry to have it end.
Rating: Summary: 1/2 Good-1/2 Bad Review: I absolutely loved The Clan of the Cave Bear so I was anxious to read this book too. Instead of the historical, informative, bibliography that was so well done in the first book, I found myself reading a trashy romance novel half of the time. I loved the parts about Ayla and her adventures with Whinney and Baby, but I hated the chapters about Jondalar and his brother. SEX SEX SEX. WHY? WHY? WHY? was all that necessary? I hope the next one will be better.
Rating: Summary: Very good filler Review: This is a great book, that really brings everything together very nicely for you. It's with this book that Ayla's path is set for her life.
