Rating: Summary: Bread and Butter of CS Lewis Review: Since my mom bought my older brother the Chronicles of Narnia, I have loved the series. I read each book at least ten times. I couldn't get enough of it. The Horse and His Boy was my favourite, though. I have read it in excess of thirty times, and have most of the lines memorized. I love that book! The bread is the adventure story that goes as a terrific medium for the regular Christian Parallel of Lewis' writings. I will read this to my children and grand-children.
Rating: Summary: One of Narnia's Best Review: I don't understand why so many people don't put this wonderful story next to The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe and the Lord of the Ring. Sure it doesn't focus on one specific Bible story like many of the others in the series but it still teaches a lesson, and a good one at that. It starts in southern Calormen where a boy dreaming of the north learns that his "father" is going to sell him as a slave. The boy,Shasta, stumbles across a talking Narnian horse and the two conspire to runaway to Narnia.
Rating: Summary: It was a great book, very discriptive Review: The boy and his horse was very interesting I liked how everything happened so fast he goes for a walk and then he gets lost finds a horse that talks and meets other people and fairies.
Rating: Summary: Fantasy, excitment [at most times]. Review: Really good. The second Narnian book was better. The exciting scenes were more exceting then other books but the there came a long period of boredom.
Rating: Summary: This fabulous Narnia book was dramatized wonderfully ! Review: I have listened to this audio tape again and again, and I have enjoyed it every time. Whenever I lay down, relax, and that fabulous Narnia music starts to play, I feel simply wonderful all over. Music and wonderful sound effects are used throughout the entire tape, and it makes you feel like the story is happening right next to you. I strongly recomend this tape to any fan of Narnia or of The Horse and His Boy in particular.
Rating: Summary: A Fanstastic Book. Review: This book is great. I loved the way Lewis used it to describe Calormene society and culture, something I'm sure many people were wandering about. Lewis uses wonderful wording and description to make you feel as if you're really there. I suggest you read it as book 3 rather than book 5, so the events of The Lion will still be fresh in your mind.
Rating: Summary: Perhaps the best of the Narnian Chronicles Review: It is an interesting observation that many people who do not care for The Chronicles of Narnia as a whole, nevertheless like The Horse and His Boy or at least find it the "least objectionable" of the lot. Conversely, there are those who adore the entire Chronicles of Narnia, but who like The Horse and His Boy the least. Perhaps both positions say something about the slightly different flavor this book carries compared to the other six Narnian books. I happen to hold to a third position of liking the whole series and finding The Horse and His Boy the best. Perhaps it's because of the story, or perhaps it's the eastern characters and religions, or the talking animals, or Lewis's humor, or all of the above, but I liked this Narnian Chronicle the most. I hope you will enjoy it as well.
Rating: Summary: My favorite of the seven Review: I love Narnia! But better even than Narnia is this tale of how a Calormene boy, an aristocrat, and their talking horse companions get there. This is a story at its best, with something always happening to keep you turning the pages.
Rating: Summary: Exceptional, our children were absolutely captivated Review: The presentation of audio literature is superb. We went scurrying to purchase more volumes and have been disappointed at the difficulty in obtaining the BBC versions. Our children are constantly reminding us to get more for car rides and nite-time listening.
Rating: Summary: The Horse and His Boy is a great book Review: I've personally read all but the last two of the series and The Horse and his Boy has to be one of the best. A boy from Calormen is sold as a slave. He escapes to go across the Calormenian desert. A horse accompanies him and gives him advice. He arrives in Narnia to find he is a prince in that world.
