Summary: Ah, Harry, you came along and brightened up our world...
Review: What can I say? I love these books. If you haven't read the HP series yet, then get out of your cave and start with this one! It chronicles Harry's introduction to the world of magic, and encapsulates the personae of 11 year olds everywhere. Meet the bossy Hermione, the obnoxious Percy (who is one of my favourite characters) and the rest. I could not recommend a better book.

Summary: Genious book, poor narrative
Review: What can I say? I loved the book! It is easily the best one I have read in a long, long time.

The audio version, however, disapointed me. I thought Jim Dale simply wasn't all that great. Being a Brit living in the United States, I told the folks back home this and they immediately sent me the Brit version of the audio tape (the Philosopher's stone, read by Stephen Fry) -- it was absolutely fantastic.

Stephen Fry really did capture my imagination and really make me believe that Harry could be captured outside the pages of the novel.

I beg you, if you can, to get hold of the Brit version (perhaps amazon.co.uk sell it?) and listen to that rather than the inferior US one (still read by a Brit). You won't be sorry you did.

Anyway, let's all raise glasses to one of the greatest childrens books of all time!

Summary: Congrats J.K.! You have written the most awsome book ever!
Review: What can I say?? HARRY POTTER RULES! I'm 15 years old and I'm supposed to be reading Jane Erye for Honors English next year, but I honestly COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! I sat up past midnight to read it! I first heard about it on Rosie O'Donnell and I must say- Rosie, thanks for suggesting it! This is an instant classic! Harry's life is so un-ordinary but everybody can relate to him! And did anybody else want to punch those Slytherin snobs in the teeth as much as I did? This book has it all- the plot is spectacular, the characters are vibrant, and Quidditch sounds like so much fun! I haven't read such a fun book since "Redwall" (another excellent choice)! If I could I would give this book a zillion stars! I can't wait to get the sequel! Jane Erye will just have to wait! PS- GO GRYFFINDOR! WHOO HOO!

Summary: simply one of the best books i've read
Review: What could I possibly say that hasn't been said? This is truly a great book. I love the characters and storyline. It is truly a page turner and is hard to put down. The only disappointment was finishing the book. At least there's three more in the series. On to The Chamber of Secrets!

Summary: In the wonderful world of Harry Potter...
Review: What else is there to say about Harry Potter? It is brillant, great, a pleasure to read, etc... The plot of the story is really supsenful and you never know what to expect. The characters are very well developed. I recommend this book to fantasy, mystery, adventurous type people. Any of J.K. Rowling's books are fantastic for all ages.

Summary: ARE PEOPLE SAYING THIS BOOK SHOULDN'T BE READ BY KIDS
Review: What is going on. Why are these books getting banned? After reading the 1st book(i am 12)i was shocked that people were trying to ban it. During the time i was reading i never thought it influcing the wrong thing. May i ask parents out there who think this book is awful, what did you think about Dalh's books. The Witches for an example, should we bann it because it has imagnary people, even witches? Why aren't all creative and fictional books banned? Why? Answer these questions and think about what you are doing. I think this the best book. Read other reviews most everyone thinks it is great. Even teacher's say this book is a great CHILDREN'S book. Rethink you're banning. Think about what you are banning from kids. If you are thinking RIGHT now i'm a stupid teenager think again. So what if this book has creative witches and wizards. It is a terrific book and i will tell all my friends to read it. This book will be read no matter what you say. It a great book. i've read it 3 times, and still love it. People who are banning this book i have 1 word to describe you MUGGLES!!!!

Summary: Evil witchcraft?! No way! Harry Potter rules!
Review: What is Harry Potter about? Well, it is mainly about this boy (named Harry Potter of course) who found out that he was a wizard. All his life Harry had been a nobody. And then suddenly he found out that he was to become a great wizard and learn all he needs to know at Hogwarts School. But, I am sure that you already knew that (lol).

I think that the Harry Potter series is great. Why? Well, Harry Potter is getting younger children to read. Yes, it is getting younger children to read! Even High School students are reading Harry Potter because it is that good (even though the reading level is for Elementary School children)! I read the first book only to see what the big deal was. Then I had to read the second and third and fourth. The characters are so interesting and the plot keeps you stuck to your seat. But, if you think that it is boring, remember that the reading level is for children in Elementary School!

However, people are constantly claiming that the Harry Potter series is evil because it mentions witchcraft and wizards and stuff. There were even people burning Harry Potter books because they thought that they were evil (I laughed when I heard this). First of all, the books are not evil. Second of all, if someone takes them that seriously, then they have a problem and you should teach your children that it is make believe. It is fiction and is not real. Third of all, fantasy books are interesting because they help build the imagination and when the world seems boring, they take you to another world. I believe in God and I didn't turn away from God when I read the series.

For those who enjoyed the Harry Potter series, I recommend the following books to you. However, some have a higher reading level and they may be hard for younger children.

-Chronicles of Prydain...by Llyod Alexander
-The Dark Is Rising sequence...by Susan Cooper
-Redwall...by Brian Jacques
-The Chronicles of Chrestomanci...by Diana Wynne Jones
-The Chronicles of Narnia...by C.S. Lewis
-Sabriel & Lirael: Daughter of the Clayr...by Garth Nix
-His Dark Materials trilogy...by Philip Pullman
-The Lord of the Rings...by J.R.R. Tolkien

Summary: A marvelous book for any age.
Review: What is it that makes the Harry Potter books so absorbing? The basic plot, certainly--who could resist this story of the underdog triumphant, especially when he gets to be a wizard with magical powers? But most of the appeal of these books, I think, lies in the details. J.K. Rowling (like another of my favorites, Roald Dahl) has the gift of creating an intricately detailed, humorously absurd world. You want to go to school at Hogwarts, eat Chocolate Frogs, and ride a Nimbus Two Thousand broomstick to play Quidditch, just like Harry.

I might mention that the American version ("Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone") changes some of the dialect from the British version ("Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone"). I prefer the British version.

A wonderful book, and a wonderful series.

Summary: The one and only book to start the great Harry Potter books
Review: What kind of life is being stuck in a cupboard all day and be treated like a piece of dirt? Harry doesn't like it and he wishes he would move for internity. So one day Harry gets a letter telling him he has been accepted to Hogwarts,School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The rest is "secret" with Fluffy (the three headed dog) and spells with potions and other magic.
