Summary: A wonderful start to the series
Review: I ignored the hype for a long time. I finally got around to checking this out of the library last year. It was so cute, adorable, etc etc. Of course I had to rush out and get my own copy, and books 2, 3, and 4! This is a wonderful start to the Harry Potter series. It's gentle enough for younger children but fun enough for everyone else. My daughter is five and is begging me to read her Harry Potter. I think this is an excellent book for parents to begin reading "chapter books" to their kids. (You know, you read one chapter a night?) Any parents concerned about the themes in the series should read it themselves first. I would save the later books for older children, but The Sorcerer's Stone is perfect for the little kids. And you know they will be begging to see the movie when it comes out. Read the book first! You won't regret it.

Summary: Well written children's fare
Review: I initially dismissed all the Harry Potter hype, which was massive indeed. But since I'm a great fan of fantasy, I decided to give the book a try - and I'm glad I did. Concise, sharply written, and imaginative, Harry Potter is well done. J. K. Rowling's writing style brings to mind that of Roald Dahl, so if you're a fan of his, I strongly recommend you take a look at this series. A fun read for all ages, from eight to eighty.

Summary: You are invited. . .
Review: I invite all you middle-aged Muggles reading this review to take a chance and read this book. I'm a grown-up (about twice over) and I loved this story, particularly the descriptions of the sport of Quidditch: Imagine Soccer, but with the rules rewritten by the likes of Jim Carey and Adam Sandler and you'll have some idea of how amusing this sport is.

In Harry Potter's world, paintings become doors with the right password, men live in wooden houses and raise fire breathing Dragons, chessmen advise you as to their optimal deployment and eating a chocolate frog is a good thing!

Listen, Rowling is right about the world being full of fearful Muggles who have lost their sense of magic. Fortunately, after reading this book, you won't be one of them. And, should your children, after reading this book, turn a mouse into a snuffbox, I suggest, in true Hogwarts Tradition, that you award points for originality, but gravely deduct for any whiskers left upon it.

Summary: Great for Adults Too
Review: I just finished "The Sorcerer's Stone" and it is one of the most Imaginative, well-written books I have ever read. Don't let the fact that it is ment for younger readers stop you from reading it! But beware....once you read it, you'll WANT to read the other "Harry Potter" books so badly that you'd better buy all three at the same time so you don't have to wait!

Summary: GREAT BOOK FOR ALL AGES!!!!
Review: I just finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and I am DEFINATLY getting all the rest of the books. It is a great story of wizardry, and spells and I just loved it!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Refreshing and Fun!
Review: I just finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and I have to say, I'm disappointed. I'm disappointed because the local bookstore is already closed and I really want to get my hands on the second book! Now!

Rowling's writing is appropriate for children, but who cares about that? I'm an adult and this first book has hooked me. I want to find out more about Hogwarts School. I want to find out more about Snape and Hagrid and the Weasleys. I want to find out what other flavors can be had in a package of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Bean.

If you are a parent, and your children have been clamoring for these books, do yourself a favor: buy TWO copies. You'll want to have one for yourself. Rowling's stories are hilarious, accessible, and very moral, without being preachy. Expect these books to turn up in classrooms soon, if they haven't already.

Summary: Harry Potter is great for all ages!
Review: I just finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerers' Stone and I can't wait to get the others! The writing was so good, I couldn't put it down. J K Rowling is a superb writer... such great expression in her charactors, it made me laugh out loud on several occassions. These are destined to become classics! I must have them all. I am 38 and I am now a BIG Harry fan!

Summary: A great story to read to a child
Review: I just finished reading Harry Potter to my eight-year-old. She was enthralled by the story, from the first appearance of Albus Dumbledore to the exciting climax. I admit that I was caught up in the tale, too. Read it to your children.

Summary: don't give up if you don't like this book! read on...
Review: I just finished reading the third of this series, Prisoner of Azbakan. I reviewed Harry Potter #1 on November 10th, you can scroll down to see why I gave this book 3 stars. The second book I only gave 2 stars, but I have to admit I truly enjoyed the third book. The Prisoner of Azbakan is worth reading the first two books for, so if you hated this... maybe you shouldn't bother, but if you liked it but weren't bowled over... just keep reading. The ride will be interesting and the third book rewards you for putting up with the average enjoyment of the first two. :)
