Rating: Summary: Harry Potter 1# Review: I have to admit this is one of the best books I have ever read! It's about a boy obviously named Harry Potter who lived in his Aunt and Uncle's closet. He also had a cousin named Duddly who was extremely spoiled as Harry was barely given enough food and water to stay alive! They gave him bad clothing and they didn't let him do anything that was remotely fun. Until one day a mysterious letter comes in the mail telling him that he was supposed to go to a wizarding school that year. Harry at first doesn't know whether this is just a joke or if it's realy true. Then Harry Potter tries going to the school. Will he be able to go to the school, or will he have to learn to be a great wizard all by himself? Find out when you read this really really good book.
Rating: Summary: u changed the title! Review: i have to admit this is the best book in the world.im from england, and really just wondering why on earth the title is different in america. have they changed the philosophers stone to the sorcerers stone all the way through the book? other than that, read it - its ace.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read! Review: I have to admit, at first the Harry Potter series didn't soundtoo appealing to me. But as the hype grew to monstrous levels, Ifigured I should try them out. From the moment the book started, I was held captive in its extraordinary storyline and extremely involved characters. I have been interested in magic since I was little, and this book satisfied me completely. Harry Potter, a young orphaned boy, becoming a wizard and going off to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! It was like I was living my dreams through this captivating book. J.K. Rowling has weaved her web of magic throughout the entire book, and I recommend it to everyone, young or old. Anyone who has an imagination will love this book. I guarantee it!
Rating: Summary: I`d give this book 6 out of 5 stars HARRY POTTER RULES!!! Review: I have to admit, before I read this (first of the Harry Potter books I ever read) I used to hate reading books. But when my mom forced me to read this (THANK YOU MOM) I LOVE READING NOW THANKS TO HARRY POTTER!!!This book is so well done. Were should I start? Well first of all the characters are LOVEABLE. They ALWAYS stick to their personalities, and are good or evil characters in the right way. Some people gave this a lower rating because they hated the Dursleys. Well, YOU`RE SUPPOSED TO HATE THE DURSLEYS, THAT`S WHAT MAKES THE CHARACTERS SO REAL AND LOVEABLE. The plot is VERY well developed and has great followthrough. I can`t think of any moment in the book where I felt like putting the book down. The mysteries (I won`t reveal them) are revealed at the very end and are so well hidden, the reader is only given very small hints and the surprises are very rewarding. The style is excellent, dialogue great, this book is very original, I could go on forever about how revolutionary this book is and how this book and the rest of the books in the series will influence fantasy writers for centuries to come. ....GO BUY THIS AND THE WHOLE HARRY POTTER SERIES NOW!!!
Rating: Summary: I was surprised at how good this was!! Review: I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about the whole "Harry Potter Trend" that has been spreading and then my mom got me this book for my 24th birthday. I thought to myself that this was going to be a childrens book and that it wouldn't be any good at all, but I figured I'd give it a try. The book ended up being very good. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it. I can see why the story is appealing to younger crowds, but I don't think that it is limited to them. I would totally recommend this book to anyone who has doubts about it. I had doubts and I really enjoyed it, so give it a try.
Rating: Summary: I'm So Surprised... Review: I have to admit, I was pretty annoyed when my mom made me start reading this series. I knew the books couldn't be all that bad, if so many grownups gave them good reviews, but I still wasn't all that inclined to pick the first one up. I had just finished reading Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, so, as you can imagine, Harry Potter was a bit of a change. Despite all this, I was utterly amazed by how good the story was. In fact, I hardly did any homework for an entire week as I blazed through the rest of the other books in the series, and I'm breathlessly waiting for number five. In fact, I finished numbers two and three in a a day each, and number four in two. I have never been able to stick with one genre for so many pages in a row. For instance, I could never read The Fountainhead, one of Rand's other books, just after reading Atlas. It just wouldn't work, far too dense, even though Atlas was an excellent book. Yet, with these Harry Potter books, I've been left yearning for more. JK Rowling has an amazingly annoying talent for leaving her readers without any good stopping places. Once you finish a chapter, some amazing new adventure crops up, and you have to physically tear youself away from the beckoning pages. In fact, for three or four nights in a row I stayed up until 12:30 reading, until I realized I had probably better get in bed for school the next day. I started reading this series because my mom made me, with the added incentive of buying me a book or two off of Amazon.com for every extra book in the series I read. Now, although I'll probably hold her to it, I don't need an incentive to read the books; I need one, and a damn good one, just to keep away from them. In short, I'm asking all of the skeptics out there to put aside their pride and pick up this book. Soon, you'll be swept up into the magical world inside, full of adventure, humor, wit, and danger just like I was. Without a doubt, you'll also end up like me, begging for JK Rowling to just hurry up with No. 5...
Rating: Summary: Why did I wait so long? Review: I have to admit-- I didn't want to read this book. When it first came out, and everyone started clamoring to get it and raving about it, I just didn't want to jump on the bandwagon. But when I saw the previews for the movie, and saw the book available in paperback....I gave in. I had to see what it was about. I'll skip the summary, as I'm sure everyone pretty much knows what it's about. Once I started reading, I found myself absorbed in Hogwarts and....well, I couldn't put the book down. And the ending-- I was taken completely by surprise. I also didn't want the book to end-- thankfully, I've already purchased the next book and will start that tonight. So, for those of you who are avoiding Harry Potter, perhaps you should re-think your decision. You may find yourself actually enjoying it.
Rating: Summary: A bit of mystery + Lots a wizardry = True entertainment Review: I have to admit. As a 30 year old I felt a bit old reading a book for 9-12 year olds. But after reading the Time article on the Harry Potter phenomenon, I had to read at least the first book in the series. I am hooked. I can't wait to start the next book. I will encourage my son to read the Potter books when he is old enough. I challenge all 30 year old kids to read this book. It is a must read!!!
Rating: Summary: Not up to the hype Review: I have to agree with a previous poster, while the book was good it certainly is not up to the hype that has accompanied it. There is nothing in this book that Piers Anthony did not do 25 years ago and did better. The characters are pretty standard for a fantasy book, the evil sorcerer, the young hero etc. but there is nothing particularly compelling about them. The fantasy elements are also pretty standard fare, the plot tends to be a series of almost unconnected episodes. For a better treatment check out Piers Anthony's Xanth series.
Rating: Summary: This book will be enjoyed by adults as well as children. Review: I have to agree with Rosie O'Donnell, this is a very fun and enlightening book even for adults to read. J.K. Rowling is a very creative writer. I couldn't put the book down. I'm waiting patiently for her third book to come out. Everyone who asks me for a new and different book to read, I always suggest them to get any Harry Potter's Series books. Not only can they read to their children, but as an adult I think they would enjoy it as well.
