Rating: Summary: OUTSTANDING! Review: J.K. Rawling has a magical touch! The three Harry Potter books are so creative and imaginative! They are not just for children. I can't wait for the next book to find out what happened to my new friends! All three books are a must read. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books ever for all ages Review: J.K. Rowling certainly doesn't disappoint with this third Harry Potter book. It has everything I look for in a book: a wonderful story, terrific writing, imagination, and drama. Rowling tells the story in an amazing way without blood, gore, or violence. It makes me wish that Hogwarts was real, but the author writes so well that you can almost feel that it is real, even if it is only while you are reading. I can hardly wait to share this with all the students at our elementary school library, but I'm a 42 yr. old woman, so please don't hesitate to read this book no matter what your age!
Rating: Summary: Low point for a good series Review: J.K. Rowling continues the Harry Potter series with a somewhat disappointing read. Once again, Harry has the magical world intersept the normal world in his home life with his Nazi-like gaurdians, the Dursleys. Once again, as a reader, one can only wonder why Rowling keeps sending Harry back to such an unfriendly setting as the comic relief that these characters provide is lost from the beginning. The over controling guardians are menacing to a point that I found to be distracting from the actual story. The actual meat of the story involves the escaped prisoner from the title. The prisoner himself is just another character to add to the growing pile that follows the series and holds no real progression to Harry's development. This plot is further complicated by the transparent antogonism of Draco Malfoy. (How is it that he hasn't killed for his obnoxious mouth?) Add the plot of Ron and Hermione's quarrel (which ends with the dumbest plot twist in history)and you have the body of the story. By far the greatest sin of Rowling in this story, is the use of time travel as a device to further the plot. With this, the author has opened a pandora's box of plot holes that will destroy any enjoyment that older reader's may take from the story. Anyone who finds time travel stories the least bit unbelieveable should stay away from this book. What worked: -Ron and Hermoine's growing relationship. -Harry's development and his growing thirst for vengeance. -Proffessor Snape's continued development. What didn't work: -Shape-shifter subplot. -Hermoine buys a cat. -Climax is dependent on time travel.
Rating: Summary: By far, the best Harry Potter book yet! Review: J.K. Rowling continues to amaze me. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is an excellent story! More plot twists and bizarre characters than in the first two stories, the same great characters, and all the fun from the first two books. You get a definite sense of Harry, Ron, and Hermoine maturing and growing, and a very gripping story. I can't get enough of Harry Potter!
Rating: Summary: Harry is still top-notch! Review: J.K. Rowling continues to surprise and delight in the third of the Harry Potter series. There is something for everyone in Harry's story, i.e., fantasy, mystery, sports, adventure. Each time readers think they understand Harry's past, Rowling puts another wrinkle into the fabric and forces a reexamination of the situation. Great books to teach character development and point of view.
Rating: Summary: friendship, loyalty and the lure of power......... Review: J.K. Rowling creates another wondrous tale of Harry Potter, a young wizard in training, and his friends. Someone evil has escaped from Azkaban prison and it seems that they may be trying to destroy Harry Potter. Sirius Black, convicted of killing 13 people with magic is sentenced to Azkaban. Sirius was an associate of Voldemort, but after Harry's defeat of Voldemort, Sirius has little left to loose in his prison life. While his escape is mystifying, the tale that follows is enthralling. It is a tale of friendship, loyalty and also a tale of the lure of power. This is a story for all ages, and one that can be thoroughly enjoyed! J. K. Rowling is an amazing author.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Review: J.K. Rowling definetly lives up to the standards of her other two Harry Potter books. This one is definetly my favorite book of the series. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is a book that all people, young and old, will like. This book has many twists and turns in the plot and as you get into the book you won't be able to put it down. Harry Potter, a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is in for a year of suprises. Sirius Black, a convicted serial killer escapes from the wizard prizon, Azkaban. He is after Harry, but not if Harry and his two best friends, Ron and Hermione have anything to do with it! I would reccomend this book to anyone who is into fantasy, humor, and an all out good book.
