Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: It is an excellent childrens book that teaches virtues, life, and what being brave is about. First I looked at these books I thought they were a mindless fad, but when I got around to reading them they were wonderful. This book is the best one so far because we can see the charactors growing up. We see more hidden emotions such as jealousy, and lust. Some may say the book is violent, but I have another thought. The book is a fantasy book that needs to cling on to reality, and in reality there's violence. To learn virtues about honesty, courage, and loyalty you must also learn that there's violence in the world. To the parents who are confused about the lack of metaphors and sophisticated language, you have to remember that the charactors in this book are preteens and preteens have little appreciation for such kind of words. In conclusion, it's a great book and deserves to be read by all fantasy fans. (fantasy fans, I like the sound o that)
Rating: Summary: The Best Review: I have just finished reading this book and it is, without a doubt, my favorite of the four. I have read the first three and I loved them. J.K. Rowling does a great job of making you feel what Harry feels. If he gets scared, happy, or nervous you feel just what he feels and that's one of the things I enjoy about these books. In this book I really enjoyed the events going on during the Tri-Wizard Tournament. There is definitely a lot of excitement in this book. If you haven't read any of the Harry Potter series you have to read the first one to see if you like it. Or if you have read the first three you must buy the fourth, you will love it. P.S. When's the fifth book going to be released?
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable! Review: Only two weeks ago did I get the four Harry Potter books. Although I had heard that adults (such as myself :) enjoy them as much as the younger set, I just hadn't had the desire to read them. Well . . . now I wish I hadn't waited so long! I read the first three in 2 1/2 days; the fourth one (this book which I am reviewing) took a bit longer of course :) It was wonderful; I am happy that the size was much larger so that I could learn even more about all the characters and their lives. The ending definitely has me waiting impatiently for the next installments.
Rating: Summary: bit unduly sensational Review: The good things first. The growing up of the characters is beautifully portrayed. The sensitivity of early teenage relationship among friends and the sudden realisation of the characters about their and their friends' gender is very well crafted. The storyline holds tight, despite its length. Now, the not so good things. It is the most sensational of all the Potter books, and I'm afraid it has played to the market forces. Most of the aspects appear to be dominated by the selling factor, overhyping the characters and the situations. The first three books were writen more from the heart and self belief, this was written for the market with the aim of hard selling in mind, forcefully lifting everything to a grander scale. As a result the book loses the innocence present in the earlier volumes. Overall, it's a book that lives upto the series, with its share of new ideas and imagination, making it a compelling read, but it achieves this goal mainly because of the earlier volumes. It keeps up the interest for the next in the series (no.5), but with trepidation that playing to the market forces and falling into the trap of following a selling formulae of a sensational bestseller will spoil the charm of the series. The author should show the courage to write a shorter book for the next one in the series, if necessary, filling unnecessary pages doesn't add anything to the creativity.
Rating: Summary: More than Hogwarts alone Review: While the storylines of the first three parts of the Harry Potter series are basically the same, Joanna Rowling takes it one stap further in part four. Not the quidditch tournament, but a magic contest between three (international) wizard schools is the red line in the story. She also pays less attention to the obnoxious Dursley family and more to Voldemort. The Goblet of Fire is by far the most thrilling of the four parts. Harry is growing up and his opponents are more formiddable. This book seems to be directed to a more mature audience. Can't wait for part five!
Rating: Summary: a good story . . . Review: i have found this series amousing and entertaining, but it could be written better. i like the idea of a school for learning magic, but it often drags on in slow spots. the set up in the begining of the story often takes up to 70 pages. why doesnt she explain it when the need arises throughout, so a reader isn't tempted to give up on the book in the opening chapters? there are better books out there.
Rating: Summary: Joanne Rowling has invented the ultimate winner Review: Not since Tolkein has the literary word seen anything that resembles Harry Potter. Whilst on holiday in the south of France, I happened to meet one of the senior executives of Bloomsbury (the original imprint for the Harry Potter series). Having heard the tales of bookshops swamped with excited buyers, I couldn't resist asking him whether it was down to good marketing or good writing. He assured me it was good writing. I believed him and bought all four books. Thanks, David, for your sound advice. J.K.Rowling has, indeed, written a series that is brilliantly simple in its conception yet amazingly intelligent in its portrayal. If you've never read them, you should. Within half a dozen pages, you'll find nothing at all unusual about students of Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry riding high on broomsticks playing a game called Qidditch. Harry Potter is now adored worldwide. So is his creator, Joanne Kathleen (J.K.) Rowling, a single mother with a wonderful imagination and a gift of insight into the minds of youngsters and adults alike. She has the undeniable ability to recall her own childhood and capture those wonderful, though sometimes difficult times. It's an ability that makes her creation, Harry Potter, so easily acceptable. I notice that the Goblet of Fire states 'Reading Level Ages 9-12'. Clearly a misprint. It should be 'Reading Level Ages 9-92'. Eighty years from now, Harry Potter books will be sold as collectors items in boxed sets and todays 12 year olds will still be reading them and reliving their childhoods. If you still haven't read any of the Harry Potter collection, you should swallow your pride and do so now! (They print adult editions with less striking front covers!)
Rating: Summary: I can't wait for the next one! Review: I don't get why some people say this book is bad for kids. I think this is a perfectly great book. It really lived up to all the hype with the great Triwizard Tournament! I can't wait for the next one to come because now Voldemart is back!
Rating: Summary: This book was SO good!!! Review: I'm 15 and can honestly say that I've never been a fan of fantasy stories, and I started readig Harry Potter out of boredom. I was in for a surprise! From the first page of the first book to the last page of the 4th book, I was totally captured by the magic of Harry Potter. I think this 4th book was so good, and the ending was surprising to me, and it has left me wondering. The characters in this book are so well developed and the plot is wonderful. Some parts of the book are totally hilarious while others are kind of scary. This mix makes one GREAT book, and I recommend it to everyone!
