Summary: Rowling introduces a new magical world
Review: When you first think of the Harry Potter series, the first thought that comes to mind is "Why do I want to read a book about Wizards?" Well first off, this was my reaction, but i ended up reading it. It happened to be the best book i ever read. You are taken into an enchanting world of wizardry, where the life of a young boy, Harry Potter, intensifies your mind. Harry Potter, is the only wizard ever to have defeated the dark forces, and although he appears innocent to this fact, the dark wizard is planning a return. When everything is going so well for Harry, things take a turn, when an unexpected surprise comes out of the mysterious Goblet of Fire. As the book continues you are drawn to the security of Harry's life, while also the enchantment of magic. Imagine going to a school where they taught you how to perform tricks! Or how about meeting a three-eyed dog? And best yet, Have you ever heard of soccor being played on broomsticks up in the air? It's the little things like these that make Harry Potter, the book it is. Filled with mystery, intensity, and fun, Harry Potter will take you into a world so magical, you will never look at life the same way again!

Summary: Next Time...
Review: The only things better than reading Harry Potter is listening to Jim Dale's narration, and the variety of voices that bring the story to life. You will not be dissappointed. My only caveat is that the tapes will probably wear out if you listen to it as often as my family does. Next time I'm going for the CD version.

Summary: Very awesome book
Review: Fellow HP fans, this is a GREAT book! One reviewer said that popularity does not mean that it is great literature, and that may be true. But let me say that my little sister, who NEVER reads, started reading BECAUSE of the Harry Potter series. When I ask her why, she says that they aren't like other books. A book that can make somebody start reading IS great literature! They are NOT predictable. Who can honestly say that they predicted EXACTLY what happened at the end? I mean, everybody knew that Voldemort was going to appear at some point, but the other stuff, I never would have guessed! And to that same reviewer, the three main characters are completely 100% DIFFERENT! Harry is a brave and friendly. Ron is Harry's best friend, who will help Harry out at any time. Hermione is the smart and clever GIRL who is also one Harry's best friends. These three kids became best friends. Their adventures are something that only JK Rowling could dream of. These books are outstanding, and I hope that anyone who hasn't read them will.

Summary: J K Rowling can do much better than this!!
Review: I read the reviews and know this is a minority opinion, but by heaping rave reviews on an inferior work we encourage the author to give us less than her best. Admittedly less than best from J K Rowling is still pretty good, however, despite the thousands of 5 star ratings given to Goblet of Fire, it is far from what she is capable of producing.
The book suffers in 3 major areas. First, it is in need of a substantial edit. Do we really need to have the first three Potter books recapped in whole. Second, the plot is weak and poorly developed (I CAN FEEL THE FLAME MAIL COMING FROM FELLOW POTTER FANS BUT THE TRUTH NEEDS TO BE HEARD). It is not a crime to have weakness in plot, strong characterization often can carry a weakly plotted work (not unfortunately in this case, which brings me to my last point). Harry Potter is the strength of the Harry Potter series, but in Goblet of Fire we suddenly see the emergence of a difuse and indeterminate character Har-Ron-Ione (my name for the triumverate of friends speaking and acting as if they have melded into siamese triplets). Much of the viewpoint in the latter portions of the book suffers from this difuse perspective. Instead of seeing the world of Hogwarts through Harry's eyes, I found myself suspended above the study table.

Now the $64,000 questiong. Why have I gone to the trouble to write a review I know will be flamed? Answer, in the vain hope that J K Rowling (who is at this moment laboring on Book 5) will read and take to heart what is offered here. Harry Potter is wonderful. J K Rowling is a superb writer. She can do far far better than Goblet of Fire and it is my sincere hope she does, for all of us.
