Rating: Summary: Don't be scared by how thick the book is! Review: All of those pages are there for a reason. In the fourth book, you really get to know how the magical world works. Hermione's got a boyfriend, Hermione's got a boyfriend! And you wouldn't believe who it is! The book is all about the Triwizard tournament, where representatives from Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstang magic students compete. You heard right, there are other schools. You know who comes back stronger than ever in this one. Hold on to your seats, I still can't wait for the next book!
Rating: Summary: Like a cloud passing over the sun. Vol. 4 sends a chill... Review: What I've enjoyed most about Rowling's Potter series is the cozy feeling I get reading them--like sitting in an English pub on a chilly evening, there's this warm camraderie between Harry and his friends, a sense of security at Hogwarts, with its rules and traditions and authority figures that somehow survive the tweaking that its resident scholars inflict, and heart-of-gold characters like Hagrid and Dumbledore and Mrs. Weasley warm you on the inside like steaming bowls of Mulligatawny. But now Harry's 14, old enough to be initiated into evil rites, snatched from the safety of a school game to a life-and-death struggle in a graveyard. The stakes are no longer a Quidditch championship, but world domination by the powers of darkness, and one student even dies in the contest. In light of the events of 9/11/01, perhaps American readers are more sensitive to the "change in the weather" that Potter and his peers are bracing for at the end of "Goblet of Fire." I find myself awaiting Vol. 5--like tomorrow's headlines--with some rrepidation.
Rating: Summary: H. P. Rocks! Review: This is the best Harry Potter yet. Simply an amazing book you cannot put down. What else can be said?! A must must read! Also recommend Shade of the Maple by Kirk Martin - second only to Harry Potter for me!!
Rating: Summary: I love it!! Review: Although some people may have shyed away from its length at first, I gladly welcomed it. Why? My family and I were driving to Nova Scotia from the middle of Indiana. It was the only thing I read that day and I loved every single page. To all those people who think that kids nine and under aren't mature enough, I was eight when I read it in six hours, and I'm not kidding. It is the best of all four because the characters begin to change: girls and boys start noticing each other in a different way, and Ron and Harry have a big argument. I like how J.K. Rowling has put in flaws in the character's character, so that they seem real. She also does a really good job of involving Muggles, so that again, there is a twist of reality. I am (like other Harry Potter fans) eagerly awaiting book five, but I do not want her to rush and have the quality suffer. I also must say this: those of you who are commenting on the binding, STOP! Although the binding might not be as good, if you have not read it, don't comment on the book. Go to the publishers, not Amazon, where people write about the content. One more thing. The Harry Potter series is nothing like the Narnia or His Dark Materials series. I have read all three, an they are not similar at all. I would recommend these books to anyone who likes fantasy with a twist of reality. (No matter what their age was.)
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Review: I absolutely loved the other Harry Potter books and, though this one did not quite live up to my expectations, I thoroughly enjoyed it, too. The only problem I had with it was that it was so danged long. Not that I minded too much. It's just, with it being so long, it's hard to read over and over again because it takes up a lot of time (fortunately, the 5th one is supposed to be shorter). This book starts off with a quidditch world cup, has a triwizard tournament, a dance, many new characters, and, of course, the reappearance of Voldemort. It's sad towards the end, though. Oh well. So, I recommend this to anyone and everyone!
Rating: Summary: The Best Installment Yet! Review: "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" has got to be J.K. Rowling's most enthralling novel in her world-famous Harry Potter series to date. I do believe that she put forth more effort than she did into her 3 previous novels, making this one the absolute best. It's amazing how you can sit down with this thick, 734 page book and read it only a couple of sittings! If I were to grade this book, I would give it an automatic A+ based on J.K. Rowling's unique writing style. It's great how she has written it so that all the major events in the story seem to tie in together and make the story so intriguing. So follow my advice: READ THIS BOOK! You will not regret it!
Rating: Summary: An AMAZING book!!!! Review: I read the 4th Harry Potter book this year following the others. I'd say this was THEE best book so far. I believe that the Harry Potter series is just getting better and better. I usually don't read books more than once because you already know what happens and loose interest, not this book. I'm currently reading it again. This book is about 14-year-old Harry Potter returns to school and becomes a part of a famous competition. Many amazing feats take place. The only thing disappointing about this book is the fact that he does not play Quidditch this year. I find myself wanting to be a wizard and attending Hogwarts. A very good book! I recommend it for all ages.
Rating: Summary: absolute genius Review: I adore the latest Harry Potter tale. It needed to be as long as it was, drawing together the 3 previous books with former stories, Sirius Black, house elves, Cho, Dudley's pig tail, even Ron's fake cough of "Lockhart"! absolute genius. I'm currently living in Argentina and so many things about the Harry Potter series reminds me of Britain, particularly the feasts, the way that the characters talk exactly like people (particularly teenagers) in Britain and the British sense of humour. I'm pining for the next book to come out. If you love Harry Potter you will love The Price of Immortality by C.M. Whitlock, it's a must read for any fantasy fan
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter takes a more serious turn Review: In the fourth installment of the Harry Potter series, the story takes a darker and more serious turn. Harry Potter is growing up, and the danger that he faces is as sinister as it is real. The story revolves around a competition between the various Wizarding schools, Hogwarts, Beaubaton and Durmstrang, and a plot by "You-Know-Who" to (surprise!) kill Harry Potter. As always, the new characters are delightful and as believeable as ever. The plot twists will keep you guessing (and as usual, your guesses as to who the villian is will be wrong) as you learn more about Harry's past (and the past of others - such as Dumbledore and Snape for example.) Yet there is a darkness to this book, which may be off-setting to some. There are stormclouds gathering on the horizon, and trouble is afoot. Nonetheless I am confident you will love this book as much as the others.
Rating: Summary: A relative disappointment after the other 3 books Review: I have read all four books, and I found Book 4 to be somewhat of a disappointment. The plot was more scattered than that of the first three books. I also found the imagery to be gory. I do not think the book is suitable for pre-teens. In addition, as an adult reader, I found it frustrating that this particular book was not carefully edited. There are numerous spelling and grammar errors that can be irritating. Aside from the abovementioned shortfalls, this book, as well as the earlier books, is imaginative and stands out as a book worth reading.
