Rating: Summary: Entertaining for adults too Review: The best of the Harry Potter series (so far), and even more so if you've read the previous 3.Often thought of as a kid's book, the Harry Potter series also makes for entertaining light reading for adults. Though voluminous, the books can be read quickly taking only a day or two of focused reading.
Rating: Summary: Exquisite Review: The only thing I can say about this book "fantastic!!" There are many humors, has well descriptive sentence, good plotline, very creative, character developement...I can go on and on. I understand that it's long(about 700 pages)but after use finish the book, you will wish for more. This book is also not only for children, but for adult as well. There riddles and clues that would give hints of whats comming, and people will have fun guessing the "bad guys" even if you would get it wrong For anyone with a slight imagination these books are the most enjoyable reading. They have everything the reader can look for in a story. And most importantly, pages are not felled with unnecessary details like most adult books I've read. Non-stop adventure. Only disappointment I felt was when I finished the fourth book and realized that next one was not published yet. Ten very enthusiastic thumbs up to Ms. Rowling for writing the most creative book I've ever read in my life. Finally to all people against harry Potter,Harry Potter books are not evil, they do not promote evil, they do not affirm evil, they do not glorfy evil. On the contrary, they glorify self-sacrifice, dedication and honesty to friends, honesty in the face of evil, courage in the face of evil, and most importantly, these books show our children (and adults) how to face our fears with bravery, even while our knees are knocking and we wish drastically we didn't have to face it. We can learn a lot from little Harry Potter, and I find it a shame that so-called Christians have decided to wage some kind of bizarre illiterate crusade against Harry Potter books.
Rating: Summary: The Unique Traits of Book #4 Review: When I first saw this book, #4 in the series, I was a little surprised. Mainly, because it was twice the length and size of all the other books. However, as I continued to read through the book, I found myself not being able to tear it away. I, who among many others, told myself previously that I was not to engross myself in these books because "everyone" else was. As soon as I began to read #1 and go all the way through in a period of two months, I realized that the story of Harry Potter and his journey to mature, learn, and consistently show unexaggerated bravery and unique qualities, helped me to become completely interested. I had become another excited fan. This book was a little more complicated in plot, details, development, and depth. I would have to say that these books are becoming more geared towards an older audience. I honestly feel that #4 would be a book that would be a more difficult read for any normal preteen. This book is more daring, dark, extended, and the ending....well, you're going to have to read it in order to get your own opinion aren't you? (hee hee)
Rating: Summary: And there is still more - millions of readers CAN be wrong Review: I'm very happy for the welfare mom to pull herself out of poverty in such a big way; more power to the author! Still I can't quite see myself reading through all of these "Bible" size books, especially not for "pleasure". I'm one generation removed from the target audience (9-12 year old children). When I was a child, I wouldn't have read something this "meaty" (some 500 pages!!!) even at gun-point. To see millions of kids sit their bottoms sore at libraries to get through this "epic" is beyond me. As a school teacher with very high standards (I frequently introduce Junior High School literature to 4th graders), I simply cannot see my students "sit through" a reading of this caliber. The "point" (if you ever get to it) may be well worth it, but to me the investment of time (and considerable chance of NOT finishing this saga) appears excessive. If a book is meant to appeal to kids, it should be written with their limited abilities and eagerness in mind. I'm almost 40, and thanks, but no thanks, I wouldn't want to spend the countless hours of reading to get to that famous pair of three letter words. My sugegestion: Don't start!
Rating: Summary: best of all four Review: This book was the best of all four books, hands down. It combines bits and pieces of all four then adds a little magic of its own. A must read.
Rating: Summary: Here we go again... Review: It was nice to again visit the richness of Hogwarts and it's regulars. However, I hope the author doesn't rely too heavily on the formula from earlier books. It seems J.K. Rowlings is so caught up in the culture of Hogwarts, she's forgotten to let the characters grow. Harry has learned more spells to become a better wizard, but he's still a very young 15 year old--more like he's still 11 or 12. He has noticed a girl, but has not had the typical 15-year-old response to her. Where are his hormones? And will we be plagued by the one-and-only-bad-guy Voldemort for the remaining 3 books? All bad guys have a story, and most actually think they're doing something in the name of righteousness. So what's up with Voldemort?--what IS his motivation anyway?
Rating: Summary: The plot thickens.... Review: Judging by the size of the book alone, I knew this latest installment in the Harry Potter saga was not going to be the leisurely, entertainingly escapist read that I found the previous books to be...thank goodness! The overall feeling one is left with after reading Goblet of Fire is that Rowling has finally written a Harry Potter for the rest of us (i.e. those of us who have been out of middle school for a REALLY long time). Definetly the darkest book in the series: a graphic rebirth of Voldemort, the death of a child, and the beginnings of an all-out magical war; Goblet of Fire represents a giant leap forward not only in plot and character developement, but also in Rowling's skill as a writer. This was truly the most believable direction the story could have taken and the anticipation of the next book is almost unbearable.
Rating: Summary: Mr. Harry Potter, I presume? Review: The Harry Potter series is one of the greatest children's books ever written. One of the main things that is so great about the Harry Potter series is that it appeals to all audiences. It doesn't matter what age you are; you will be intrigued by this book. You could be reading this book to your child as a bed-time story and find that you want to continue reading it after your child has fallen asleep. The characters are so vivid. It is almost like they really could or do exist; as if you had a teacher named Professor Dumbledorf and mogules (non-magician folk) cursed his name; as if magic is just a spell away.
Rating: Summary: Exquisite(excellent) Review: More brilliant, albeit simple, writing from Rowling. By simple meaning it's not pretentiously overwritten like many of the books that NPR likes to highlight, but not simple like a meaningless romance novel or other such trite entertainment. I love these books, and can read them over and over, especially this one, which is very true to the style formed in the first book, but also different in that the plot writing is not stuck in a formulaic system like some book series can get into, especially many children's books series.I am so happy that for once a super popular book is actually something that is well-written and not an insult to the intelligence and one's aesthetic sensability - I am so amazed at this, because so few people seem to ever exhibit any intelligence or aesthetic sensibility, that the cynic in me would assume that this series would have failed on the first book for being not-stupid-enough for the mass audience. Thank God something clicked in people's heads that they are willing to explore and challenge themselves a little bit more beyond insipid love stories and pointless and poorly written action/adventure books. This book is also not only for children, but for adult as well. There riddles and clues that would give hints of whats coming, and people will have fun guessing the "bad guys" even if you would get it wrong...
Rating: Summary: READ IT Review: This is one of the BEST book I ever read. The book has nice story plot, a lot of descriptive words, character developement... I know its long, but once you finish the book you will want to read more. This book is well worth the time and the $. P.S:This book is not only for chidren, but for adult as well.
