Summary: I couldn't put it down
Review: I had this book pre-ordered for months. I had read the previous 3 (which I would recommend doing, considering how well they flow together), and when I got this in the mail, I immediatly started reading it, and I could not put it down. It was that good! I read until 2:00 in the morning, and when I was finished, I sorely wished to read the next. The book was absolutly awesome. You could experience it all as if it were happening right then and there. The excitment of the Quiddith Final, the crush Harry had, and the fear and anticipation at the end (Sorry, you gotta read it!)! Each book amazes me more and more, and I applaud J.K. Rowling for her most excellent writing in creating this masterpeice. I can't WAIT until the 5th one comes out! The money is worth it for this book, and it is definatly a find!

Summary: Magical
Review: With each book, Rowling blows the last out of the water. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is no exception.

The story picks up the tale of our hero (not tail, that would have been a Dudley story *grins*), now fourteen, and eagerly awaiting to leave the dreaded Dursley's behind for a World Cup Quidditch match tournment and two weeks with his best friend Ron's family, the Weasley's. Bothered by disturbing dreams of You-Know-Who, Harry is none-the-less determined to have a good time. But of course, being Harry Potter, trouble seems to follow him like a magnent, and before you can say Avara Kadavera (and please don't) Harry is up to his specs in danger, excitement, and at last, romance. Hogwart's is competing against two other schools in the Triwizard contest, originally banned for leading to too many student deaths. And some is very eager to see Harry take part.

There are parts in this book to make your roar in laughter (The Weasley's arrival at the Drusley Household) and some that make you weep. Yes, the rumor's you have heard are true, and Harry must face what ultimately we all do, the death of a friend. He will also learn, however, that love is the most powerful magic of all.

Summary: Absolutely Fabulous
Review: I didn't read the first Harry Potter book until three weeks ago, at the encouragement of my youngest daughter, but I was standing in line at midnight on the 7th of July to buy the fourth installment. The book was ostensibly purchased for my daughter, but I'll have to confess that I digested it before she even knew I had brought it home.

How was it? Well, the title of my review says it all, without revealing any particulars of the plot, which I think is the kindest thing I can do, as this book is too good to wreck with spoilers. It was sad, scary, funny, filled with magnificent situations and wonderful prose, and no one should feel cheated a single iota.

There are several significant plot threads dangling, however, so I know it will be unbearable waiting for the NEXT book!

Buy it. Treasure it. Read it once, twice, and again and again. My favorite fantasy in years!

Summary: For a more mature audience...
Review: This one is a fair bit darker, and much less simple than the earlier books. Things are not what they at first seem.

If you've grown up with the series (i.e., you read (or you dad read to you) the first one when you were six, and then you read each subsequent book as it came out) then you are necessarily older and more worldly, and this book's edginess will not overwhelm.

If today you are 6 years old and haven't read any Potter yet, and read straight through all four titles, then this one might scare you.

It does leave you desparately waiting for the next one...

And from seeing all the kids with their parents at the Crown Books this morning, this series is doing wonders for the literacy level of Generation Z.

Summary: Hooked On Harry
Review: On a rainy Saturday morning in July, our phone rang. "There's an owl in your front yard,"claimed our neighbor. We raced to the window and spied it on our porch: the lusciously thick Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The Star Wars video was turned off. The computer game was abandoned. The book I was reading was set aside. We all met in the living room, even the cats. I read aloud, of course; no one was willing to go through the agony of taking turns. They stared with hungry eyes as I read, junkies getting their fix at last: my 8 year old daughter, my 10 year old son... my 44 year old husband. We read four chapters the first day. So far, we're spellbound.

Summary: Harry and friends are back for their fourth year at Hogwarts
Review: While this latest installment in the Harry Potter saga is very good, it is not quite as good as the first three books in the series for several reasons. First, this book starts out pretty slowly; Harry doesn't even arrive at Hogwarts until page 170. Second, while we meet many new characters, they are mostly one-dimensional. Ms. Rowling also gave several characters accents that I found distracting. Third, most of the action in this book takes place within the last 100 pages. Harry and his friends spend too much time worrying and planning and not enough time doing anything. That said, this book is definitely worth reading. Like in the first three books, there are all sorts of plot twists and surprises to make things interesting. This book is a little scarier than the others, and everything is not resolved at the end. Instead, the reader is left hanging and waiting for book five.

Summary: An Amazing continuation of the series..
Review: Trying to review this without giving away anything is going to be difficult, so bear with me.

The Harry Potter books are growing up. Compared to this newest offering, the first three books were all sunny days at the beach. All of a sudden we are thrown into the middle of a tumultuous world of wizards. We discover a WHOLE LOT more about the Harry Potter backstory, and we realize that not even Dumbledore has the answer for everything.

This book is the turning point in the JK Rowlings series. From the first chapter, it gets very serious indeed. As JK Rowling herself said, this book is where the series turn serious. People will start dying.

All this said, the same incredible world that existed in the first 3 books is presented again here, although this time it is clouded with the shades of grey that we all start seeing between good and evil when we start to grow up.

Summary: J.K. Rowling is on fire!
Review: In this, the fourth book in the delightful Harry Potter series from author J.K. Rowling, our young hero finds himself tangled in yet another sticky situation. The first few chapters set a tense feeling that carries on throughout the entire text of this 700+ page novel, and the typical charm and elegnce of Rowling's writing keeps readers both young and old glued to each moment. Enough about the writing, now on to the story. Note that no spoilers will follow- read it yourself! Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire starts off from where Book 3, Prisoner of Azkaban, ended, with Harry at his Uncle Vernon's home. A startling nightmare awakens him, and he is confused as to its meaning. It turns out that all is not well in the wizarding world, and that an evil plot is brewing in the shadows. All the time avoiding his enemies (and finding time along the way for a bit of romance), young Potter must find a way to quell the problem and set things right again. If you have read the other three books, be sure to pick this one up right away. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Summary: Live up to the hype?
Review: How could any author's work match the hype that has surrounded this book? She pulled it off. Great new characters, more intensity, and better constructs make this an instant hit. This has many of the familiar rhythms of the first three books in the series, but manages to be fresh and new at the same time. I got the book at midnight last night and couldn't put it down until I devoured it. A fun read.
