Rating: Summary: They just keep getting better and better Review: J.K. Rowling has done it again! The Harry Potter series just keeps getting better and better, and "Goblet of Fire" is no exception. The plot is thoroughly exciting and suspenseful--a real page-turner, this!--and what fun to meet again the characters from the previous books who by now are like old friends. Don't be intimidated by the sheer size of this volume--there's just more Harry Potter to love! This adult reader highly recommends "Goblet of Fire"! Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire rules! Review: I think that Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire was the best book I've ever read!
Rating: Summary: Book 4 better in terms of Writing, worst in Style. Review: If you were as exicted as I was to get book 4, you might be a little bit disapionted. First off there is the volume of the book itself. You can't help thinking, "Does it really need to be that long?" Second, as Ms. Rowling told us it is very "dark". Just for example the book starts out with some one dying. Being how old I am, this does not bother me. But to a 6 year old child it might be very disturbing. Plus, thats not what we expect from any Harry Potter book. At least I want a fun and easy read that takes my mind to a magical world, not a book that has a deep under-currant of death. Third, there were those times that Harry just had the answer handed to him. You wanted at least Hermione to figure it out and then tell him. But, I must say, it's Harry Potter. The Writing and details are wonderful. The plot and story are the best yet. And as always, J.K. Rowlins abilaty to think left and go right is un-matched.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: The fourth Harry Potter book is captivating from the first chapter, starting with Lord Voldemort at the Riddle House. Harry is suffering at the Dursleys when an unexpected invitation comes from Ron Weasley to see the Quidditch Finals. The way there is filled with funny bits, including a contribuation from Fred and George. When the event takes on an dark, unexpected twist, the action starts. From the very beginning, the suspence mounts. What will Lord Voldemort do to Harry? Is anyone going to die? Who? How? How is Rita Skeeter finding things out? The book is another great example of Rowlings work. She keeps you on your toes, and adds twists that make your predictions be the opposite of what happens. Little secrets uncover bigger ones. You uncover small surprises, including what happened to Neville Longbottom's parents that made him live with his Grandmother. This is a fantastic book, my favorite yet.
Rating: Summary: Extremely long; very, very dark; a bit repetitious Review: My overwhelming reaction after getting this book was of heft. The book is heavy. So my question is: do the contents justify the weight? I was pretty worried since successful authors frequently lose the self-control to pare themselves down, as see King's later works. Yes and no. On the negative side, I think about 200 pages from this book could have been cut without feeling any ill effects. This was the only one of the four Potter books that I sometimes skimmed over and that I felt were a bit slow. On the other hand, the book sure kept me up all night, turning the pages. Rowling is one of the hardest writers to put down since, I don't know, Asimov or something. I felt there was a bit of a disharmony between style and content: the style was aimed at very bright 12 year olds, but the content was aimed at 16 year olds or more. I mean, it was more than "dark": it was painful, gloomy, grotesque, horrific - with scenes of torture and tragedy that would not have been out of place the Odyssey or even at times Dante. But the vocabulary and sentence structure didn't at times seem up for it. I for one could have used a little more brightness - this book after a while was like spending a couple of hours with a dementor.
Rating: Summary: Another Good One Review: In the fourth and so called pivotal book in the Harry Potter series, his summer is troubled by dreams of the evil wizard voldemort. All this happens just before an unexpected invitation to the quidditch cup, the biggest sports tournament in the world. After the tournament he goes back to hogwarts and learns of a special event happening there, which makes this his most exiciting and eventful year yet at hogwarts. As in all the other Rowling books, I liked this book because the book really makes you connect with the characters. It has great description and is interesting from beginning till the end. I highly recommend reading this book, it may be the best yet in the Harry Potter series.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter 4 - was it worth all the hype? Review: Well, this is what everyone has been wanting to know - was it worth all the hype? Well, I have been asking around all the people I know (it's only a day since it came out, but we've all finished it already) and the answer I've been given is a resounding YES! I thought the plot was, as JK Rowling warned us, "darker" than the first three books, but it did have some funny moments as well, which nicely balanced out the book, and left us in even more suspense. As with the first three books, Rowling gave hints all the way through as to the ending - but never quite enough for us to work out what that ending could be, and she once again brought the suspense slowly to a climax, leaving me literally unable to put the book down. I thought nothing could be better than the third HP book, but she has proved me wrong. I won't give the ending away, but it is more of a cliffhanger than the other books, and already, one day after book four came out, I am eagerly awaiting book five. In conclusion, I think that it was definately worth all the hype - this was the best book in the world but how could she leave it like that?
Rating: Summary: She's Done It Again! Review: My vision is blurred from staying up all night reading but Goblet of Fire does not disappoint! I was so worried I would have to reread all the other books to bring myself up to date, but Rowling does a superb job of reminding you ever so gently of past crucial episodes in the characters lives. And speaking of characters! There are several new, complex and very compelling wizards on the horizons both good and evil. Harry, Ron and Hermione are growing up in terms of their romantic interests, but, thank goodness, not too fast - there's no intense mushiness to be found in all 700+ pages. The whole book centers around an interschool (wizard school, that is) competition and it gives a fabulous edge of tension to the entire volume. You are CRAZY if you don't read this book as soon as possible - you will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Action Packed Exciting Book Review: I throughly enjoyed the book, I could not put it down. There are many exciting action filled moments and new mysteries to figure out. Those making it different and more exciting than the first three in the series. Definatly a book you need to read.
Rating: Summary: The best yet! Review: Although the book's length makes it slow-moving at times, J K Rowling was right in saying this is the pivot of the Harry Potter series. The mood is definitely darker than the previous installments of the series, but like all the others it'll make you both laugh, cry and scare you at various points of the story. My only advice is to try to read it slowly - there's a year to wait till the next one, and it definitely leaves you desperate for more!
