Summary: Rowlings: Show woman of the 21st Century
Review: Who dies and who lives. Does, in fact, a favorite character die at the end of the book? You will hate me if I answered that question - though not as much as Ms. Rowlings. All I can say is - there are three more books coming down the pipeline. So be prepared to wait, like me, till midnight, at your favorite bookstore. In the meantime, if you want your children to graduate to "chapter books" (as my kids say)instead of being stuck with "picture books" buy this book. There is still enough time left in summer to read them (and make them read to you)the complete book. The hype certainly exceeds the quality (Show Woman Rowlings), and my personal preference remains Enid Blyton (because I don't exactly go for hocus pocus). But the kids are really hepped up and that is good - the book teaches good grammar, improves vocabulary and sets your imagination to fire.

Summary: Delightful- the hype was mostly justified
Review: This 30-something mom felt it was well worth the time and almost totally lived up to the hype. The sense of fun and place, full and interesting characters, quirky details, and interlocking mysteries (large and small) are still there. Added are new characters, dimensions and adventures for Harry and others, a sense of the larger wizarding world, and hints of struggles to come.

I read it at one stretch and it didn't seem long. It's age appropriate but with much to offer grups as well. The only caveats are a wish for less artificiality in the way Harry gets historical information, and a little more first-person sharing of what's going on in Ron's and Hermione's heads when they're undergoing struggles and life changes.

The Dursleys are a challenge but Harry gets around them with his growing understanding, and soon Harry is off to the Weasley's. No Diagon Alley this time (Mom does the shopping <sigh>): he gets World Cup quidditch and the mysterious aftermath. The quidditch match at the beginning was very detailed.

Once school starts there are many familiar elements but also twists. I laughed out loud several times during the early sections but after that it was somewhat less prankish than past books. The Triwizard Tournament soon begins and Harry is included though he is underage and another champion from Hogwarts is already chosen. Though wondering about motives he is bound by the rules to participate. The competition include lots of exciting and suspenseful activities, so the quidditch wasn't missed.

Harry's relationship with Ron goes up and down but Hermione remains steadfast. In the end they are a team, but there are times of doubt and pain. There's a continuing sense of Harry feeling separate from the rest of the world that's sometimes due to events and sometimes regular pre-teen stuff kids will likely identify with. The mysteries grow and we learn more about characters and relationships, deepening understanding of previous events and foreshadowing the future. For example, his patience toward the hapless Neville seems in books 1&2 merely nearness or decency, but in book 3 we see parallels in his father's friendship with Pettigrew (aka Wormtail and Scabbers). Then in book 4 we and Harry learn more about Neville's family tragedy and begin to see him differently. Though little is done with it here I expect more top come. These bits are not always separated out so you have to pay attention- the suspenseful action is sometimes a little distracting, so a second read-through helps more background and clues stick.

The much ballyhooed romance is just dawning, and I was glad. He is still a little young for more than a crush. It and many other events give us hints of the man Harry is shaping up to be, and for the most part he is something to be proud of- though patches of stubbornness remain to grow out of.

There are several deaths but mostly "off screen." None are gory. One is a known but not central student, and though Harry's reaction was delayed it was proportional. The ending had unanticipated elements, but logical once explained. My advice- remember things are seldom entirely what they seem in the magical world.

Review: I loved the book. I don't wanna give to much away, but it is great. Lots of new twists, and some love put in there. Makes a great new addition, and a wonderful book.

Summary: The Best Of The Four
Review: I am a ten year old girl (Eddy's daughter, Nicole). I picked up the book at the release party at midnight and read the whole thing in one day...It was so exciting! The suspense was great. At the Triwizard Tournament (my favorite part) Harry had to fight a dragon, go underwater to save Ron, and get through a dangerous maze. All my favorite characters were back. It seemed like Hagrid might get fired. Harry could have died several times, Hermione was her usual self. Then of course I was anxious to see who it was that was going to die. (We all knew someone would). The biggest scare of the book is when Voldemort rises again in a new body and duels with Harry. I don't want to spoil the end so I won't tell you what happens. If you love Harry Potter, you have to read the Goblet of Fire. It's fantastic!

Summary: Still the Best!
Review: Absolutely fascinating book, so wonderful that I'm sure they haven't printed enough copies. Very exciting with lots of action and puzzles to solve. Unforgiveable incantations that will put you into Azkaban for life if used... wondering who is after Harry this time. Unfortunately, Harry is getting a little interested in girls, which is boring.

Review: I thought it was great. It is surely a 5 star book. If it is possible, it is even more exiting than the first three. i definitely recommend buying it!

Summary: Read it in under 14 hours!
Review: This book is by far the best of the series so far. JK Rowling has spent more time weaving the story and adding many elements that weren't present in the earlier books. Even though this book is geared for children, I feel that older teens and college students will enjoy it. It is wonderful children's fantasy without being childish.

Summary: This book is so incredible
Review: J.K. Rowling has done it again! Here I am thinking that the third book (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) is the best book in the series, when I discover Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is even better! In this book, the first chapter draws you in, because it includes Wormtail (the rat/human also known as Scabbers/Peter Pettigrew) and the Riddles. The following is contained in the first two pages so do not email me saying I am revealing a crucial part of the plotline: I did not understand how Tom Riddle could have been murdured with his parents in a Muggle village, because didn't Tom (Marvolo) Riddle's father leave his mother because he found out his wife was a witch? And didn't Tom live in a Muggle orphanage and grow up to be Lord Voldemort? This will be explained in the end. Anyway, Harry is invited to stay with the Weasleys for the rest of the summer in order to go with them to the Qudditch World Cup (Ireland vs. Bulgaria), and they stay at a campground with numerous other wizards who do not have a clue as to what a real campsite looks like, and where a crowd of death eaters (supporters of the Dark Lord) have gathered to bewitch some Muggle owners of the campground. When Harry, Ron, and Hermionie are sent into the woods by Mr. Weasley while the ministry representatives attempt to calm everything down, a skull with the tounge of a snake appears-causing screams of fear from the crowd watching the death eaters-for this is the dark mark, the sign of Voldemort. By the way, the Dursleys allow Harry to go due to the fact that Harry's godfather is an escaped murdurer. Harry then travels with the Weasleys to King's Cross in a MUGGLE TAXI (humorous thing). When they arrive at school, they meet their new Defense against the dark arts teacher, "Mad-Eye" Moody, who has a magical glass eye and does not like Draco Malfoy. There is no Qudditch, due to the fact that the Triwizard Tornament is being held this year, a tournament between 3 schools, Hogwarts, Beauxmont, an elite French school, and Dumstrund,a school from Bulgaria known for its teachings of the Dark Arts. Whoever's name is pulled from the Goblet of Fire must compete, and, for Harry Potter, if his name is pulled from the cup, it could mean death.

Summary: J.K.'s 4th book - Unbelievable
Review: First, I was one of those obsessed people who waited at midnight for the release of this book. I started reading around 9 A.M. the next morning and finished about 10:45 at night. (Granted, I did take little lunch and dinner breaks) But it goes without saying I haven't read for 12 hours on one book like this ever before. Unbelievable~and that's the word that comes to mind after finally finishing this book. The book starts with a scene at the Riddle house. (Remember, Voldemort is Tom Riddle) This in itself was different because I have gotten used to the books starting at the Dursley's with Harry over the summer. Harry is not actually even in chapter one. After this the book gets going a little more, though I considered the first eight chapters to be only so-so. For me, the book really started feeling like a real Harry Potter book when Harry went back to Hogwarts, in chapter 11. At this point, the book really picks up the pace and by now, you simply cannot put the book down! I think that since in so many ways this book was very different from her others, I liked when Hogwarts started again because it was a chunk of "normal" HP books for me to hold on to. The book is very complex and obviously well thought out, as always. Interesting names like Karkaroff and creatures called veela appear. Harry, Hermione, and Ron have grown up a little and are 14 now. I couldn't tear myself away from the book, because I definitely liked it. However, the book was some scary parts near the end, particularily the part where the person "readers will care about" dies. This part upset me because the book's reading level says 8-12 years old, yet some 8 and 9 year olds would be definitely scared by some parts. Lastly, about the person who does in this book: (I won't tell who it was) J.K. did a good job even with this, because she took a character you would have just felt bad if you knew it was this person, yet by the end of the story you felt absolutely terrible that this wonderful person had been killed. She managed to make it feel like a close friend had died. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was definitely a pivotal novel in this series. And it was great..in a way most different from other novels. The intensity is high, and while some questions do get answered, this book left me with many more questions than answers! She ends the book keeping the reader completely hooked for the next one.
