Rating: Summary: Once again JK Rowling surpasses her other books Review: The fourth book in the magnificent Harry Potter series is as good, if not better than the others. We meet the other Weasleys, we go to the quidditch cup, and we expierence the Triwizard competition, an event that hasn't taken place in over a century. The ending of the book is quite frightning, but well writen. There is a death that was very sad. I really loved the book and I couldn't stop reading it for nine straight hours! It is long (734) but no word is wasted.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Review: I got to the bookstore 10 minutes before midnight. I reserved the book 3 months earlier, knowing it would be huge. It was all over the news. Finally, I got it. I was the 5th person in the store to get it, at approximately 12:04 AM, Saturday morning. I began reading it when I woke up at 9 am. I sat there, on the 'crouch' reading it until 7:02 PM. This is a huge book. From the first chapter 'The Riddle House' to the last chapter, 'The Beginning'. We learn so much (the following is NOT a spoiler!) We learn why Hagrid's so tall, who Harry has a crush on, why Snape is on his 'second chance'. If Lucius Malfoy is really evil I could not put the book down. J.K. Rowling has done it again. With the side-characters such as Dobby and Moaning Myrtle making a return. We learn of rival wizard/witching schools, and YES there are American Wizards! The story ends in a cliffhanger, but I will not tell you how.
Rating: Summary: Awesome book Coming Through Review: I think this book is just as exciting as the first, then the second, then the third. It's my favorite book of the 4, so exciting and thrilling! J.K Rowling really let's loose with this book breaks all the rules she made in the past books and writes a book that''ll keep you reading for hours, once you finish the chapter, she always ends them with cliff-hangers, you just want to read the next one and the next one!In the 4th book Harry comes back to Hogwarts after the World Quidditch cup with Ron and Hermione and the Weaslys, gets a girlfriend Cho Chang, experiences the Tri -Wizard tournament, and a dear character in the story won't live to see the end of the book.................... so read it! It's great i give it five stars!
Rating: Summary: Hogwarts needs more quidditch! Review: I loved this book, I really did, despite the excessive number bad guys plotting disaster, but there wasn't enough quidditch in it to suit me. If it is truly the wizarding world's favorite sport, and everyone is fanatically devoted to it, why don't they make the time for friendly skirmishes between friends? This seems odd to me. The sports fans I know and love don't content themselves just watching other people play the game, and waiting for someone else to play 'the big game', they get a little sports action of their own going on their own time. Come to think of it, why don't Hogwarts' students have any sort of physical education course requirement? (They certainly seem to study everything else under the sun!)
Rating: Summary: Life and death, 4th year style. Review: Without a doubt, the Harry Potter books may by themselves bring back quiet afternoon reading. I received this 734 page missive via Sat delivery (thank you Amazon) and settled in for several hours of reading. The Goblet of Fire continues the traditional events of the previous books, but with more character development. The pace is, unforunately, slower and will lack the excitement found in the Quidditch matches of the previous books. The appeal of real-life, however, with the falling out of friends, the dreaded "first-date" scenario, will resonate well with the equivalent age group, as well as the adults who remember this book. It did lack the incredible visual imagition appeal of the eaarlier books, where people nearly lived scenes (Quidditch, facing down Tom Riddle and his snake), leaving us to work harder to make it sing. Harry's usual life-or-death dealings do keep you reading, but I found the ending to be tamer than earlier books. All in all, a slower pace, more emotion and characer development, more interaction will make this a satisfying read for older readers, but the excitement and thrill of the earlier books, as well as the escapism of Hogwarts will make this a tougher sell to younger readers, like my son. Indeed, certain aspects might lead to real-world discussssions, on death and dying, on honor and on fairness. I'd still recommend this book; I read it straight through. The only headache I have now is waiting for the next volume to appear (and trying to decide if the movie is a good idea.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointing Review: While J.K. Rowling wrote the first three books in this series very well, the latest installment will likely disappoint all but the die-hard fans. The book is imaginative, but it aims at a much lower audience than before, and the writing style is clearly flawed, as Rowling probably rushed it to meet a deadline. You should probably reserve the book at a library before wasting your money on it.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: It was great to see Harry back again!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire... Review: ...I thought was very, Very, VERY exciting! Harry has a girlfriend! Someone dies! He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is back! I thought this Harry Potter was especially interesting in the way it doesn't start with Harry insted Voldemort. My only complaint is that the next one won't come soon enough!
Rating: Summary: ! Better then the first three! Review: The 4th Book is very very interesting and although J.K.Rowling said the end was very frightening I thought that it was not as frightening as the 2nd and 3rd. The ending surprised even me. I was misled by some Harry Potter site about what would happen. I think that it was made interesting by being so long (752 pages). J.K.Rowling could explain everything in detail. I just can't wait for the next book to come out. Before you read the 4th you must read the 1st 2nd & 3rd or you might be a little confused. Check the cover for hints about the book Mary Grandpre has hidden them very well.
Rating: Summary: Great book but not for little kids Review: As an adult I thought it was a great read but it's so much darker than the first three, especially the resurrection of the (mostly dead) evil villian. With killings, cutting off of body parts and the drawing of blood it deserves a PG rating. This stuff is not for little kids. But then again, if you can actually read a 700 page book you're not really a little kid are you?
