Summary: Rowling does it again!
Review: Having bought the 4th book of the Harry Potter series on Saturday morning, July 8, my 9-year-old boy and I vied for the reading of it. While we shared reading aloud some chapters, and traded it off, I got to read it after he fell asleep and finished it at 3:45 in the morning.

The Goblet of Fire is a combination of the intensity and themes of Books 1 and 3, I thought, with a goodly amount of Voldemort, Azkaban, and the Ministry of Magic, as well as a peek into the wider wizardry world of Rowling's than just the UK (though all from Euro-Asia). Themes of Harry's friendship with Hermione, Ron, and the rest of the Weasleys were developed, as well as the early teenage stirrings of the Fourth Year class (girls more so than the boys, naturally). And Harry's heroism, daring, and good character are continually confirmed.

There are some Mission Impossible-like plot twists near the end, but it all hangs together very well. It was interesting, too, to compare the actual plot elements with the many rumors -- the main characters falling in love with other people, the death of a main character, etc, etc. Although attractions to the opposite sex were there, Rowling sensibly kept those subplots on the back burner for these mostly 14-year-old characters. I won't spoil the surprise of who dies, for there are some close calls in the book, and the darker feel of this book is apparent from the first chapter, where a man dies.

In toto, if you liked the first three, you HAVE to read the fourth. It does not dissappoint!

Summary: Best Book so Far
Review: This book was wonderful I bought the book at 8:00 in the morning which was the earilest time you could get it and I read it all day I stayed up till 4:00 to finish it and in a way I am sad it is over. This book inchances you, it has every thing that a novel should have, humor action suspence and a little bit a romance. These books just keep getting better. I have nothing but fantastic things to say about this book

Summary: Review of 4th Harry Potter book.
Review: Having thoroughly enjoyed reading the first three books with my 11 year old son, the fourth book is a disappointment. It took 200 pages for the first exciting plot twist to develop (when Harry is mysteriously entered into the championship contest). The puzzles and clever foreshadowing that marked the earlier books seem to have gotten lost. The final 100 pages of the book includes a number of extended monologues which have the main characters directly explaining how the plot makes sense rather than the much more interesting manner of the earlier books in which the pieces fall into place with only a few choice revelations towards the conclusion. At 700+ pages, I truly hope this series following sticks with it for what I hope will be a fifth book much more in keeping with the first three.

Summary: Rowling Does Not Disappoint
Review: The fourth installment in the Harry Potter series is indeed pivotal. It shows the steady, measured maturation of the characters that fans of the series have been promised since the beginning, along with the usual fun, suspense and humor.

Even the death in this book, which author Rowling seemed to believe was necessary to fully establish the evil nature of her villain, Voldemort, was handled perfectly. With sadness tempered by fury and determination on the parts of all the heroes.

Rowling also shows us some marvelous new glimpses of Harry's world, taking her carefully laid foundation and adding to it. We see not only Non-British wizards and witches, but even Non-European. One might wonder how other countries will respond to the continued threat of Voldemort.

This is one of the first books I've been looking forward to in a great while that hasn't disappointed me in the slightest. I finished the book in 7 hours straight, and then went back to reread my favorite parts. It is a masterwork, not of children's literature, but of literature. With this book, JK Rowling establishes herself as not just a great storyteller, but a great writer.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: This is an excellent book, in my opinion it is the best in theseries so far. I started reading it the day it came out, and icoulden't put it down. Within 1 night, i was half way through the book. I won't give away the ending for anyone who hasen't read this book. All I have to say is that I believe J.K. Rowling has outdone herself.

Summary: My Review on "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"
Review: I thouroghly enjoyed this book. I read through it pretty fast. I bought it the day it came out and finished it the day afterwards! I loved this book even the end were what everyone is hoping will not happen does. Once again Harry is visiting the Weasley's and they go to the World Cup like they mentioned in the previous book. No surprise there. But something happens at Hogwarts which was never expected and ... stuff. But I really loved this book. It was the best. I hope you enjoy reading it also. It is one outta a million because of the unique and rare talent displayed by Rowling. I hope the other 3 are as good as this one was. Oh wait! Only 3? Nooooo! :-)

Summary: Excellent, hefty read
Review: HP #4 was quite worth the wait. The story seems a bit more straightforward than the previous books, but the book is quite a bit larger. The final result is a long, very pleasureable read. One wonders if the thousands of adults and children waiting in line at midnight for books, or eagerly awaiting a Fedex shipment Saturday morning, has some network executives very nervous!

Summary: A riveting series takes a very dark turn
Review: At 12:01 AM July 8th my family was standing in line for the first released Harry Potter IV books in Tulsa. My 11 year old had read the entire 700 pages by the next day. I, myself, stayed awake till 4:00 AM to read it.

So, get plenty of sleep before reading this book. You won't sleep until you finish.

And you might not sleep well afterwards either. Because, unlike the first 3 Harry Potter books, this one contains at least one very dark and horrid scene.

Harry is tied to Voldemort's father's tomb while Voldemort performs a bloody ritual. A fellow student and friend is killed, although not (thank God) by human sacrifice.

But if this scene is necessary, and it is, then it is written with the proper disgust and horror which should accompany it.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire shares the strengths of the earlier books in the series. The secret villian is a surprise, the characters are real, the plot is believable. It has some additional virtues. It is long, but never boring. The budding romances are not cliched yet leave the plot uncluttered.

The twists of characterization continue and increase. At least one hateful character is beautifully redeemed and a few good characters display questionable tendencies.

Two minor characters display subtle depth. One man brings sorrow on himself and his family by forgetting morality in his fight against evil. Another desires comfort and familiarity too greatly and so ignores plainly displayed evil.

The Globlet of Fire is not a standalone book. Like Tolkien's "The Two Towers" it is neither the first nor the last in the series to read.

I will be in line at 12:01 AM waiting for next Harry Potter installment.

Summary: Rowling Does It Again!
Review: Another teriffic book in the Harry Potter series. Even at over 700 pages, this one will leave you longing for more. As Harry Potter grows, so does Rowling's narrative style. This book -- like its hero -- seems much more grown up than the others, both in themes and narrative style. Yet, it's still an adventure that all ages can enjoy, with moments of thrilling action, tense danger, and deep pathos.

The author has a really good feel for what it's like to be a budding teenager -- even a teenager at a boarding school for wizards.

We get to see students from other schools in this one -- which lends a larger dimension to the tale. The relationships between the cast members become more complex as well. With much of her background established, Rowling feels free to delve into her world more fully.

I've read (and worked on) fantasy books and games for 20 years, but Rowling's world still feels fresh and exciting to me. I can hardly wait for the next one.

Sorting Hats off to this marvelous author! Who else could make a 700 page novel read like a 200 page book?
