Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Review: I loved it! It was delivered to my doorstep on Saturday morning and I finally finished it Monday at 2:00 A.M. Another winner for J.K. Rowling. The twists and turns of Harry's adventures continue in this exciting book. From the beginning at the International Quidditch Cup, the story constantly keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Harry, now in his fourth year at Hogwarts, is reunited with his friends Ron and Hermoine. Their adventures begin when it is announced that Quidditch will not be played this year but instead one student from each of three school of Witchcraft and Wizardry (Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang) will participate in an event not held in recent years, the Triwizard Tournament. Through no fault of his own Harry becomes the fourth entrant in this tournament. The book follows Harry through his classes, his preparation for competition, and yes, even his first dance. I won't tell you the ending, but it is very tense. Rowling has another winner on her hands. Now I'll be waiting by the door for the delivery of Harry Potter V.
Rating: Summary: Goblet of Fire Overflows with Excitement and Revelalations! Review: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is easily the best in the Harry Potter series. Harry, Hermoine and Ron return for another thrill ride, with Harry in the classic mythic tradition of a hero with a Quest. In Goblet of Fire, we meet wizards and witches from countries other than Great Britain. We are introduced to a host of new characters, both friends and foes, and these characters are as deliciously distinct and true-to-life as Rowling's previous creations. There are revelations about the pasts of characters we love and characters we love to hate. Both a beloved friend of Harry's and a servant of "You-Know-Who" are present from the beginning of Goblet of Fire. The plot's twists and turns are as tidy and unpredictable as ever. In short, Harry Potter is everything we have come to love about the series and more, literally and figuratively. Those 734 pages are packed full of all the action, excitement, humor, and drama of the rest of the series. Although there are hints at the maturation of the young heroes, they will likely be lost on readers under 11 or 12. Further, the "scary" factor has been racheted up a notch, making the book unsuitable for the very young (If you're a reader of Tolkien, this can be compared to the difference between The Hobbit and Return of the King.). I will not hesitate to let my 9 year old read Goblet of Fire, but I will probably wait a year or two to read it to my not quite 6 year old. Still, as an adult reader of the series, I devoured the 734 pages in less than two days, as "unput-downable" as any book I have ever read. I laughed out loud at Rowling's humor and cried buckets near the end. One word of warning to any who have not read the prior books - many secrets from books I through III are reviewed in Goblet of Fire, so this is one book that should not be read out of sequence. (The other three need not be read in sequence.) Otherwise, read, enjoy, and wait another whole year for Book V!
Rating: Summary: harry potter and the goblet of fire-a splendid book Review: harry and the weasleys finally go to the Quidditch world cup with a terrirising end. harry starts his next year in hogwarts and meets the new teacher. the triwizard championships start and he finds his first love. A wonderful book the best in the series so far!
Rating: Summary: Faster than polyjuice potion, the plot thickens.... Review: Favorite (and not so favorite) characters return and we learn more of You Know Who's rise to power. This book is much darker than the previous three books. As Harry and his friends grow up, they face the normal dilemmas of adolescence and the not so normal hazards of being wizards. Because of the darker aspects of the book, I recommend parental guidance for the younger HP fans. Neither I nor my 12 year old have been able to put the book down down since we bought it. It's as well written as the other four and a great set up for Book 5. I can't wait till next summer to see what happens next.
Rating: Summary: exceeded expectations... Review: At first, I had doubts that this was going to be as good as the first three, but I was wrong. J.K. Rowling has the same amusing humor and sharp turns everywhere. The same old characters are growing up like they should; Harry Potter won't stay eleven years forever. He's experiencing feelings real teenagers feel, and so are Ron and Hermione. Ron's brothers, Fred and George, add mischievous humor, as well as a little mystery. I thought the new characters were very original and interacted well with the old characters. J.K. Rowling has the reader suspecting everyone of everything. The one difference I noticed between this fourth book and the first three was the seriousness. It's darker and more tragic, which I think is a part of Harry becoming older. This book has everything: horror, mystery, fantasy, humor, a bit of teen romance, and touches on a lot of issues, like prejudice.
Rating: Summary: Another Amazing Adventure Review: Which fills in so many plot questions, and asks so many more. JK Rowling's characters are genuine - not real, obviously, but in their alternative universe, are completely realisic and wonderful to read about. They are perfectly scary in all the right parts, and in the right proportions, but it's probably not a book for the Under 8's to read alone - even if they do read it to themselves, it's good for parents to be nearby during the last 150 pages or so. But it's a terrific book for everyone over that age to read, to share, to talk about with friends, and to read over and over again
Rating: Summary: Well worth the wait Review: Simply said, this book is AWESOME! J.K. Rowling certainly has a the gift of writing. Harry and all of his friends are back with some really good adventures. The book flows smoothly and really keeps you guessing until the end! In recommend to everyone to READ READ READ this book, if you can get your hands on it.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Review: J.K.Rowling has done it again! Book Four of the seven book series is probably the most eagerly anticipated book of the year and it was certainly worth waiting for. Harry, Ron and Hermione are all back at Hogwarts for their fourth year and this year hold more suprises and problems than last year! Once again the school has a new Defence of the Dark Arts teacher known only as Professor 'Mad - Eye' Moody. Sirius Black assumes his role as Harry's Godfather even whilst on the run and Harry gets to speak to his late parents. Whilst these books often cheer the heart this latest creation had me in tears because of its poigniancy. Whilst Rowling could have made Harry's meeting with his parents incredibly cheesy, what James and Lily Potter say to their son is heart wrenching stuff. Not only is this book sad it also an hystarical tale of the three Gryffindor's first dates. Two schools come to visit Hogwarts and you can imagine the outcry when the female students find out that one of them is the infamous Quidditch Player, Viktor Krum. Plus many Hogwarts students attend The Quidditch World Cup. This new book is double the size of 'The Prisoner of Azkaban' and each page is brilliant. The characters are well sculpted and the story line is typically superb. Rumours are true, I'm afraid: One of the characters does die. But you'll have to read this fantastic book to find out who. If you want to know how great this book is, put it this way: It was released on Saturday over here, its now Monday afternoon. I watched Pete Sampras play tennis and that was about the only point at which I could put this legendary book down. MISS THIS AT YOUR PERIL!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter & the goblet of fire Review: As a 38 year old child i have read the first 4 Harry Potter books. I find them entertaining and funny. The goblet of fire is the sort of book that you can not but down " I loved it and will read it again and again ". My two son's are at the the time of writing this reading the first book and i have told them they have to read the whole lot in order to get a feeling for the story. It is a shame that Harry only as two more years at school i would love to see the book's go on to include his first years as a adult.
Rating: Summary: HARRY POTTER ROCKS Review: I would love the Harry Potter series, if for no other reason that it is getting kids to READ.... and it'll be a stepping stone into the worlds of books (and away from the tv set). I love to read, everything from Tolkien to Caesar's Commentaries, and I hope that Harry Potter will spread this joy. But I love these books because they're just alot of fun. I'm a systems anaylst, no kids myself, but I grabbed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as soon as it hit the shelves. I started reading it at 8PM and finished it at 2AM.Buy it. Read it. Have fun.
