Rating: Summary: Worth the hype Review: I was really concerned that the new Harry Potter book couldn't possibly live up to its hype; I'm a children's librarian, and I'd been taking reserves from excited children for this book for months. Happily, I was not disappointed.I don't want to spoil the story for anybody, so I'll just say a few words for any parents who are concerned about the suitability of the new book for their young children. First, while the book is, indeed, scary, I would not say that it is substantially more frightening than "Chamber of Secrets." Second, a character does die, yes, but Rowling handles the death in quite a tasteful manner that should cause no nightmares. Third, there is a tiny sprinkling of profanity in the book which was not present in the previous books. The oaths were mild, though, and can be glossed over by those parents sensitive to such things. Three more books are coming, and Rowling has set things in motion for a great climax in the future books. I urge anyone who has hesitated to begin the series before now to dive into the first book; you won't regret it!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Review: True to the previous Harry Potter novels, this newest effort is fast paced fun. While darker in tone, it is as enjoyable as the Prisoner of Azkaban, which in my opinion was the best in the series. Rowling brings many new aspects and details to the story, which make it seem fresh instead of just rehashed. The one drawback, it is really long for children, yet I think very much worth the time.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This is in my opinion the best Harry Potter Book J.K. Rowling has written so far. It was well worth the wait I don't give away the ending of the book but the ending is very scary and it is sort of a cliffhanger ending. You will also meet alot of new charecters in this book and students from differant wizarding schools. It was so good it only took two days to finish. You will not be disapointed with this book.
Rating: Summary: Bloated but fun Review: I can't put this book down - not because it's engaging, but because I'm afraid I'll break my foot! This monster tome reminds me of "Gone With the Wind," (both book and movie) - huge and enjoyable, but not nearly as good as everyone thinks it is amidst the choruses of accolades. Those adult readers who are tired of the band wagon might prefer Emerson's essay on Self Reliance, or Eugene Ionesco's play "Rhinocerous."
Rating: Summary: Firebolt Caliber Review: Welcome back to Hogwarts, where the extraordinary is par for the course, and the unexpected would be expected - if we were clever enough to imagine things that happen past our wildest dreams. Harry, Ron, and Hermione (her-MY-oh-nee) are 14, and are back for their 4th year at Hogwarts School of Wizardry. There is another Defense from the Dark Arts professor ("We do seem to run through them," Dumbledore has remarked). Hagrid is still teaching Care of Magical Creatures, which is running to more, um, inneresting (as Hagrid might say) creatures than flobberworms. Percy has graduated, but Fred and George are still not living up to his prefectorial standards. There is no Quidditch this year, but we do get the chance of a lifetime, prime seats for the World Quidditch Cup. In place of sports, there are more classes, and a ball, and who will be going with whom? Lord Voldemort is still trying to return, and it is a terrifying and sombering prospect. At one point, someone tries to recapture for Harry the aura of the time before Lord Voldemort's defeat. He succeeds. One of the scariest things, you realize, is that you never knew who was on the Dark Side and who wasn't. Would it be that way again, after Lord Voldemort's return? Is it that way now, when You-Know-Who might be on the rise? Who is on what side? We meet creatures we have seen before, like grindylows, and see some new ones. (The wizarding world is fascinatingly filled with creatures and you see why a student would be required to take 7 years of Care of Magical Creatures.) We meet new people and see old people in a different light. Harry and Ron and Hermione are growing up. Things may not be so black and white anymore. All in all, every page of this 700+ page book is worth turning. Send your owl out today with an order for a copy by return post. If you could see a wizarding picture of the people who have read the book, we'd all be waving wildly at you, cheering, and then going off to start on our rereading.
Rating: Summary: Can't Wait for Number 5! Review: I have to admit, I was one of the crazy adults who couldn't wait to get his hands on the new Harry Potter book. I read it over the weekend, and now I can't wait for the 5th installment to find out how Harry can top this. The darkest of the Harry Potter books, this story brings Harry face to face with you-know-who, and one of the recurring characters dies. It is not for the weak hearted. The themes of bravery and friendship run through this installment just as in the earlier books. (I could have done without Hermione's p.c. campaign against house-elf "slave labor" though!) Although this was not my favorite of the four books, it was a great read, and I would highly recommend it to any Harry Potter fan. If you have not read the other books, however, be sure and read those first, as this book would be difficult to understand.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - The best yet! Review: This has been the best book i have ever read! It even proved itself to be better than the 3 previous Harry Potter books. There is so much going on and every character is so well developed. Also,i don't object to the fact that Rowling has brought Harry into the dimly lit corridors of love. Like i said...this book has everything!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire Review: The ending is the best! You feel as if you've been drawn into the book. If a chachter is in pain you feel as if your in pain. Two chachters return Dobby and Padfoot! Don't miss out on the greatest Harry Potter book yet!
Rating: Summary: Another Excellent and Imaginative Creation Review: JK Rowling has done it again- taken over our minds, thrilling us, scaring us, and making us laugh from the the first page of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and carrying over her magic until the last. This installment in the epic stories of our young hero, Harry Potter, is perhaps the most spectacular and awe inducing yet... Harry, having gone through most of the summer with the vile Dursleys, get the opportunity to go the the Quidditch World Cup with Ron and Hermione. A fantastic game of Quidditch, however, is not all they see. One of Voldemort's previous followers has sent up the Dark Mark- Voldemort's personalized sign, calling all of his followers- 'Death Eaters' to him. This event is only the first in many that take place and draw Harry into more dangerous situations than he has ever encountered before. It seems that this particular year, the Triwizard Tournament will take place at Hogwarts. This competition tests the skills and bravery of student from three magic schools- Hogwarts, Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons. The students to compete are chosen by the mysterious Goblet of Fire, which measures the worth of wizards to partake in the event. When the names are chosen, a stunning event takes place- yes, it's true- Harry is chosen to participate in the competition, although he never entered his name and was much too young to compete. Bound by the laws of the tournament, Harry has to compete against the other champions. But has Harry simply had some stroke of luck? Or did someone, something, put Harry's name in the Goblet- someone who wanted him dead? As the tournament begins, startling revelations and events take place, involving Hagrid, dragons, merpeople, and perhaps the best of all- Malfoy as a ferret. The whole mystery reaches an intense and horrifying climax that will have you clutching the book and gasping for breath. My advice: Ease the pangs of Harry withdrawal and read this book. If you have never read any of the Harry Potter books, then grab the first one and catch up as fast as you can. Any new installment in Harry's life- particulary this one- is one you DO NOT want to miss.
