Rating: Summary: Maintains the high standard, but definitely darker Review: I got the book on Saturday, and finished it Sunday night. In spite of the length, it was still a quick read. I definitely enjoyed it, but it was much darker in tone than the previous three. I also missed the regular Quidditch games, as they were quite entertaining and a fun break from the intrigue. The Triwizard Cup was interesting, but not quite as fun as Quidditch, since it was fairly clear who was going to win the Challenge. There were a lot more characters in this book, and not all of them were well developed. Too many ministers and "outsiders" (Maxime, Karkoroff) who we never really got to know. I also kind of missed the Dursleys, who only really appear in cameo, at the start. She does a great job with the usual gang, and it was nice to meet the older Weasley boys. Hopefully they will appear again, as they seem to have great promise, and are much more interesting than Percy. The evil in this book seems more real, and less fantasy, than the previous books, and the kids are definitely growing up. Hormones kick in! The climax is quite riveting and very emotional - filled with fear, sadness and bittersweet moments. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and consider it a great continuation of the series. She ends it with a bit of a cliffhanger, so we're in for another really long wait!
Rating: Summary: she's done it again! Review: Yes, it was darker. The evil with which Harry was forced to contend left me shuddering in the final pages. The characters returned home from another year at Hogwarts at the end of the novel in much more subdued tones than before as they became aware of the wickedness in their world awaiting us all in the next installment. That being said, there was still much to smile about in this novel (to help you breath in amongst the darker moments) I enjoyed the new creatures Hagrid shared with the students, the latest Defense against the Dark Arts teacher, and the antics of the already well-known faculty and students of Hogwarts. I was especially pleased with the numerous examples of the emergence of Harry Potter as a teenager with convictions about doing what is "right instead of what is easy" and as a young man of character. Another job well done!
Rating: Summary: HERO Magazine says Harry Wins Again! Review: Anyone who's waited for months for the new Harry was finally given reprieve this weekend as Harry Potter #4 hit the shelves. After devouring the book over the weekend, it's apparent that Ms. Rowling did it again. It's just as magical and wonderful as the first books, and especially brilliant and beguiling towards the end. You won't read a better kids' book for years!
Rating: Summary: Took me by surprise! Review: Finally, Harry Potter has returned! This book is so totally awesome. All the hub bub about this book is nothing compared to the real 734 pages it actually was. I mean, there were such surprises and happy moments. Oh, there were sad points too...:) READ THIS BOOK! IT WILL KEEP YOU OCCUPIED FOR A LOOOOONNNNGGG TIME!
Rating: Summary: Our Little Wizards Are Growing Up Review: That's right, Harry, Ron, Hermione and the rest of the Hogwarts gang are definately growing up. No longer are they worried about candy and games, with this, the fourth of J K Rowling's seven-book series, their eyes are turning toward their futures and toward each other. Now fourteen years old, Harry Potter is not only casting his eyes toward the pretty Ravenclaw Quidditch player mentioned in "Prisoner of Azkaban", but he is really beginning to look at himself and his role in the world, not just as a student wizard, but as a wizard. This book is far more emotionally charged that even the last book, in which Harry gained and lost so much. Though Sirius Black is a constant presence in Book Four, it is Harry's struggles with his fellow students that is most poignant. As he and his dearest friend Ron Weasley find themselves at odds, it is a heart-rending and often frightening journey for us all. Few books have ever taken me back so far and reminded me so much of the pure joy and terror of being a teenager.
Rating: Summary: A masterpiece beyond words Review: I just finished Goblet of Fire, and I must say it was quite captivating from start to finish. From chapter one on, Goblet delivered all I expected from this highly anticipated thriller. As for all the hype about it becoming scarier, I will not complain about this fact but commend it. It gives older readers the oppurtunity to understand and love Rowling's writing (as I've always done.) And with younger ones, this gives them a peek into the creative twist of words Joanne is capable of weaving into a serious yet hilarious story. I agree, Ron, George, and Fred are very funny and Hermione becomes more daring and independent with each book. At her character's wonderful display I find myself wanting to join S.P.E.W and helping the unjust world of house-elves. At the end, when Rowling semi-sums up the story but leaves a cliffhanger lying open, I found myself breathless, waiting impatiently for the release date of book five. (When is it anyway?) This is a wonderful display of creative writing that J.K poises so carefully into this 734 page masterpiece. A thousand stars is an under-rating for how good this is!
Rating: Summary: He's Back... and better than ever! Review: "AMAZING!" There is simply no other word to describe this book! It was shipped to my grandmother's house on July 8, as promised. I picked it up July 9 around noon and immediately started to read. By 10:30 pm that night, I was 2/3 of the way through. I finished the remaining chapters the next morning in an hour. The book is that good. Now, I am a 15 year old soon-to-be junior in high school, and I can read along with the best of them. In junior high I was reading Steinbeck, Austen, and Dickens quite easily. Reading has always been fun for me. However, though I have been reading advanced material for ages now, I simply can't get over how GOOD these Harry Potter books are! They seem to get better with each new release, and "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" is no exception. As alwasy, "...the Goblet..." leaves us yearning for more. I already await the release of Harry Potter book #5. Everyone should read these books; adults and children alike, and all the ages in between as well. J.K. Rowling is a genius, and her Harry Potter books deserve a spot on the shelf with such other timeless classic fantasies as C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles...", and J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings" triology. Rowling's Harry Potter books are inspiration to those who have always dreamed of success in the writing world, as well as simply pure fun to those who just want to read.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter fans DO NOT pass up! Review: Boy was this an EXCELLENT book! Out of all four books, this one is by far the best. The way the plot is designed makes the book a real "page-turner". The best part about reading this book is how the author describes everything so realisticly, it makes you feel as if you were going to school at Hogwarts with Harry and his friends. This book comes with alot of unexpected turns. I recommend it to anyone who wants an action packed adventure, filled with turns, and twists that will really surprise you. I recommend the age group for this book 10 to ANY AGE! Overall, it's an EXCELLENT book, that proves "the wait was worth it! "
