Rating: Summary: Ahhh, reading a good book is like finally coming home. Review: "The villagers of Little Hangleton still called it 'the Riddle House,' even though it had been many years since the Riddle family had lived there." This opening line of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire immediately set the tone or stage for the entire story. It was obvious that this book would be quite different in style than the previous three. The language and the overall theme were decidely more mature than the previous stories, and don't forget this book was a whopping 700+ pages (unusual for a book classified as "childrens literature"). Unlike the previous three, this latest in the Harry Potter series was much more suspenseful, but in a more adult-like fashion. Perhaps, this was deliberate on the part of J.K. Rowlings. After all, our teen hero is also becoming older and more mature with each book. The tone of the entire first half of the book radiated a strong sense of foreboding. At the end of the book, the reader was left with a sense of anxiety, doom, but with a fervent hope. This book was definitely darker than the first three. By far, this was J.K. Rowling's best work. Due to the writing style and some of the themes, elements presented, this book could easily be classified as adult literature, or at least literature for young adults. Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire was a very good read. The writing style was much more vivid, richly developed, mature, and clever than Books 1, 2, or 3. It was quite the chiller!
Rating: Summary: A 734 page pleasure Review: This book, the fourth in a series of books about Harry Potter, lives up to and surpasses the standards set by first three. Following the example of the other books, The Goblet of Fire has twists and turns in evey chapter. Each chapter builds up the next until the reader is stunned at the end of the book, wishing for more. I hope everyone, children and adults, read all of the books, and don't leave this one out. I know I'll be reading it again, a few more times!
Rating: Summary: Astonishing Good Read Review: I picked up the first Harry Potter book when I heard it was being panned by the extreme christian fundimentists as encouraging children to believe in magic and use magic words. Since when has childhood not included magic. The Harry Potter series is as entertaining for adults as for children. ( myself being a Masters degree nurse and my SO a Computer dweeb) The characters are entertaining, well written and dynamic. The magic and mysteries will keep you guessing a thoughly as in an Agatha Christie novel. I can hardly wait for the next book. OR failing that Can I have my letter to Hogwats Please. I have magic in me!
Rating: Summary: A book to read over and over again Review: You probably would think after Harry Potter's 3rd book nothing could be better. Yet J.K. Rowling has surprised us agian, with this thrilling novel that has us screamiing for more. In this book, much more plots are happening around Harry. This book may be much longer, but for the true Harry Potter fan, this is an added bonus. At the end of this book we all ask the same question- What happens next?
Rating: Summary: The Triwizard Tournament Review: The fourth installment of Harry Potter's adventures is by far the most comprehensive and interesting of the Harry Potter series to date. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Harry's new adventures with Hermione and Ron during their fourth year at Hogwarts. Again, J.K. Rowling strings the reader along with her 'Usual Suspect' type twists. Her subtle hints and allusions allow the reader to clue in on the possible culprit. In my own readings of her past novels and this one, I again was fooled by a twist of the plot. I always found myself reading past pages over to make sure I absorbed every morsel. Even now, after completing the book, I continue to re-read certain parts of the book to study the intricate detail of Rowling's prowess. I would strongly suggest the Harry Potter series for anyone looking for a great book to curl up with!
Rating: Summary: Wow. Review: This is by far, the best book I have ever read, and I've read a lot. Full of excitement and adventure, the fourth book in the series is simply stunning. The first chapter chills you to the core, if you've read all three books before. As usual in the HP series, the book is full of twists and turns. However, the book contains murders of favorite characters, finally seeing Dumbledore angry, and, most chilling of all, the rising of Voldemort. This book is so...so.... thrilling, I was actualy sobbing at the end of it. Unfortunately, this book is very very sad, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone below the age of 7. Don't waste time! Pick up this book now!
Rating: Summary: 734 pages in two days flat! Review: The fourth installment of the Harry Potter series is another sure page turner. Once again, JK Rowling's exceptional characterization is consistent and true to the individuals in her story. You can see the growth in each of the players. The sub-plots are weaved ever so cleverly through the book that you can't put it down! A highly recommended read.
Rating: Summary: Skeptical Teen Converted Review: First of all i'd like to say that im a 15 year old boy and i like Harry Potter. Im not ashamed to say it to anyone, im proud of it. I decided to buy Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire the day it came out. I had never read a Harry Potter book before and i was a bit skeptical, i thought they were like some long, cheezy versions of the goosebumps books i bought when i was younger. I wasnt even thinking of buying it...but it just called to me in the Virgin Megastore in NYC, where i was looking at the cds and DVDs. And it was on sale, so i thought...what the heck? I love books, and i read all kinds. So, i bought the book. I was so anxious to read it, i hardly slept that night. I got up early the next morning and opened it up, and it seemed like i didnt put it down after that. The pages just flew by until i finished a few hours ago. The story was just so smooth and good and easy to read, it was like watching a tv show. I thought i would be lost cause i never read any of the other books, but for the most part, the book explained everything. I think i liked the book so much because i could identify with Harry. Being only a year older, i could understand alot of things, such as his nervousness about the competition and about the dance. The whole dance thing was written very well, showing not a fairy tale happy ending, but a sadder ending, which many teens can relate to. Overall, it was a fun story and a joy to read, and ill also be going out and buying the other three books. Consider me a converted man.
Rating: Summary: The Best Harry Potter Book Yet! Review: I stood in line for the book at 7:50 AM on Saturday morning, and finished at 2:35 AM Monday morning. It's the best Harry Potter book yet! I consider it a kind of cliff hanger, but I won't tell you why in case some people haven't read it yet. It may be 734 pages long, but it's worth reading it!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Review: This is the BEST Harry Potter book yet! I had it delivered on the 8th, and I was reading it every chance I could get! It is so suspenseful and it had my undivided attention from the start. I love the way Rowling decribed every event so completely that you never had any question as to what was going on! This book is by far and above the most adventurous and I can't wait to read it again! Rowling had me turning the pages and I felt as if I was experiencing the amazing adventures with Harry and his friends. There is nothing ordinary about this book!
