Rating: Summary: Another triumph for Children's Literture Review: As a literacy educator, I am in awe of Harry Potter and the effect he and his creator have had on reading for pleasure, especially, but certainly not exclusively, for young readers. I've spent a good deal of this past weekend reading the fourth novel, Harry Potter nad Goblet of Fire (professional research, you know) and I just have to say it: She's done it again! Rarely does something that's had this much hype live up to its advance press, but this novel certainly does. As a matter of fact, this novel lives up to that hype throughout its 700-plus pages. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was an exciting read for this old reading professor and promises to be even more exciting (and empowering) for the younger readers among us. Thanks, Jo. You're making my job a lot easier!
Rating: Summary: One of the most incridible stories ever written? Yes! Review: Harry Potter and the Goblet Fire, the fourth book in the Harry Potter Series, finally came into my possession at 12:10 in the morning of July 8th. Let me tell you, first off, that I am fourteen, and while I don't consider myself an adult, I certainly don't consider myself a "little kid." What I'm trying to say is, don't let yourself be fooled into thinking it is only a children's book. It is in fact an amazing story full of imaginative characters and plot lines worthy of the undying interest of people of all ages. I definately recommend you read this book--the other ones first, of course.First thing you need to know is that the story of this book is much longer, more complicated, and a little darker than the other three. At 734 pages long, it supports an incredible plot that mixes fantasy and mystery together. I won't ruin it for you, of course, but I will say that the reader is hooked by the end of every chapter and is not able to put it down due to the many surprises and twists. I know; I stayed up till three in the morning reading it. There is no Quidditch, a magical sport played by wizards, between the four houses at the magical school of Hogwarts for young witches and wizards in this book(!), but that is taken care of in the beginning of the story at the . . . drum roll, please . . . International World Cup Quidditch Match! The new competition is, instead, the Triwizard Tournament, and it takes place between three magic schools--the other two, we have never heard of before this story. Each has one "champion" chosen to compete against the other schools'. That is what the main plot is about--the three challenges they compete in, along with basic life at the school. The plot underneath, though, is just as amazing and even more mysterious. For the first time, readers will begin to learn the histories of many characters. This book, in fact, focuses on the past and reveals many marvelous secrets. There is a reason for this, of course: history will play an imporatant roll in the future. Just to explain, the reason I said this book was darker is because You-Know-Who, Lord Voldemort, makes a more prominent appearance in this story. Expect sadness and some O' that black magic, but don't be afraid--it's only a book. If anything, this story is even more enjoyable for adults. The characters are again magical and fun, full of surprises and human emotions. You will get the feeling as you read that you are Harry--yes, you--and you will be hurt, happy, sad, and scared every time he is. You will grow a bond with some characters, and you will learn to hate--even if you don't make a habbit of doing so in real life--others (Professor Snape and Draco Malfoy come to mind). Hermione, Ron, and Hagrid make their comeback, along with Sirius Black--hurray!--and Dumbledore. There are many new characters in this book, most of which are from the other magic schools, but the main focus is on old ones. Expect to learn more about characters from the other books--ones you might have thought weren't so special; each is very important to the very complicated plot. Also, each character changes in this story. They grow, come of age, and begin to take an interest in members of the opposite sex. Could there be romance in the air? Yes, but I'll let you find out who with whom by yourself. In conclusion, this book is the pivotal one in the series. If you don't read this one, you will not understand anything to come after it. This is where the story begins. Think of the others as a kind of "long prequel" because the future looks very different now than it did before, and we will look forward to reading the next books, which will show us a very strange future. . . .
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter Rules the World Review: Harry Potter is the best book in the world. We first found out about Harry Potter on Amazon and I have been a fan ever since. These are books that are just fabulous. From the watertight plot to the magical characters all the time you spend reading these will be worthwhile! I'm so pleased with the new one and I stood in line at Midnight to get a copy. People who want to ban these have not read them or do not understand them. Read them and you'll will love them! I won't tell you what happens in the last one but let me tell you. . . . you will love it.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter is Fantastic Review: The long-awaited fourth Harry Potter book left me wishing for the fifth. There is never a dull moment, and although you have your suspicions to the culprits, every event throws you off to a new idea. I must confess I stayed up until 1:00 a.m. to finish the second night I owned the thing because I couldn't face trying to go to sleep without knowing the outcome. This is a wonderful book for ALL ages, as my mother's sixth grade class loves it, as do my grandparents.
Rating: Summary: Lives up to the hype! Review: Despite all the media frenzy, J.K. Rowling has kept the integrity of the series intact. Goblet of Fire is the longest book yet but it is well worth the effort to read. This story seems to be a transition to how the final three books in the series will play out. Though this story is darker and full of suspense, I still found it to be funny and genuine.
Rating: Summary: Stunned, Dazed, and waiting for book 5 Review: I recieved this book in the mail today and I just finished it. What can I say? J.K. Rowling has done it again. This book was definitely worth waiting for. I don't want to give the plot away or anything, but when Rowling admitted to killing a central character in this book she wasn't kidding. I sobbed. Even now I am still suffering from after shocks, the emotional toll on the characters in this book is so overwhelming that even now an hour later I find myself staring off into space with tears in my eyes. I read in a interview with Rowling that every book is going to get darker. I just hope she doesn't kill off somebody you get to know in every book. All in all the book was fantastic, it had humor, suspense, a little romance, and a lot of magic. I can't believe I'm going to have to wait a whole entire year before we get the next installment in the Harry Potter series. This book is fabulous and will definitely leave an impression on anyone who reads it.
Rating: Summary: The Best of Harry Potter, IV! Review: Although the first chapter of the book was exciting I think that it wasn't that great compared to the rest of the book. I think this because during the middle of the book the events that take place have much more detail and a lot more happens. I like this book because the things that happen in it don't happen as you would expect them to. I also like the fact that in this book the characters stay just as evil as they always were and she (J.K. Rowling) mentions the major characters from the last books. What comes of the characters are very interesting coming to the conclusion that even if you know what is going to happen to them always ends up coming to you as a surprise. In conclusion of all the things happening in this book, I think that this is the best book of the Harry Potter series.
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK EVER! Review: This book is truly the best book ever. Of all the books that I have read the Harry Potter series is the best, and of all the Harry Potter series, Goblet of Fire is the best. It makes me want to goto Hogwarts, and makes me feel as though I really am there. It is hillarious and terrifying. There is even a ball! If you are interested in fantasy or even if your not, this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: New Harry Potter Book leaves you waiting for the rest Review: The fourth harry potter book was wonderful, it brings back characters from previous books and adds a lot to the ongoing story line. For me I thought it was an emotion filled book with suprising plot twists that you would never have guessed. It is as actioned packed as the books preceeding it. It keeps you interested, you never get board! I would tell everyone to read this book. I just wish the next one was already out!
Rating: Summary: Superb Review: This book was great; the story was engaging, the characters full of life and the events in the story so vivid I could see it played out before my eyes - especially durring one of the story's final scenes... but I won't go into that. This is definately one of the best stories I have ever read. The book might be a little scary for young readers, by the writing is so good and the story so amazingly engaging and exciting that denying a child such a wonderful piece of litterature would be worse. This is a story that children, teens and parents can throughly enjoy. I know that I certainly did.
