Rating: Summary: the best since the first Review: This book is an excellent continuation of the series and may be my favorite since Sorcerer's Stone. There's a tremendous amount of action in Goblet of Fire: characters and situations change, the heroes grow up, and the horizons of the wizarding world broaden as if by, uh, magic. Ms. Rowling could have produced a formulaic book and it would still have been a bestseller, but this is not just more-of-the-same. What more can I say without spoiling the story? :)It's unfortunate that it takes her so much longer to write these books than it takes us to read them. I'm already looking forward to finding out what happens next, and which of the new characters will stick around. As a personal note I just have to add that I like Hermione better all the time.
Rating: Summary: J.K. Rowling does it again! Review: You would think that in a book of over 700 pages, the 4th in a series, the author would lose some momentum, that maybe the attention to detail would decline, or that she would fall into repetition. Rowling suffers from none of these ailments. In his fourth year at Hogwarts, Harry Potter is as vivid as ever...He, and all of the books' wonderful characters are involved in yet another exciting series of events, full of suspence, humor and more new and colorful magical inventions and places. You have not read any of the Harry potter books, this, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is your fourth reason to begin.
Rating: Summary: Not just for kids... Review: Some of my favourite authors are Gore Vidal, John Irving and Tom Wolf. I must admit, however, to having a serious soft spot for J.K.Rowlings Harry Potter stories and her latest, The Goblet of Fire, is no exception. This, the fourth in her series of, apparently, seven books, is twice the size of Harry's previous outings and begins with the wonderfully teasing setup of the Riddle House bringing with it the return of you-know-who, through the Quidditch World Cup, the return to Hogwarts and.... (you'll have to read it to find out more ! ). As with all the HP books, it pays to read the earler parts carefully as clues abound and everything (well almost everything...) is beautifully tidied up by the end. I began reading the book worrying that JK might not be able to maintain the inventiveness, the cleverness and the carefull plotting of the previous books. I should not have worried as, in many ways, this one is the best so far. Maybe younger people enjoy these books for their sense of adventure and I get that too but, as an adult, this is pure soul food.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Review: Wow! This was a lot more than I expected. The plot really thickens. I am amazed at Rowling's imagination and her ability to hold my attention for over 750 pages. It is a little scarier than the first three, but worth every page. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Wow...HP just keeps getting better and better! Review: Wow. I can tell you this is a great book! If you have read any of the other HP books, this will bring just as much joy into your life as the last 3. The begining starts off a little slow because, well...since it is the "middle" of the set, JKR wanted it to stand out and be a little different. Near the middle of the book, you have come across the 'Triwizard Tournament'(Which I think the book should have been called...) The Triwizard Tournament is a tournament of events against duling wizarding schools. You will probably notice some of those little "crushes" going on. In the HP world, there seems to be a nice "love Hexagon" going on.Yes, that many people! Now later on, I must say the ending is wonderful! Even the begining of the end is wonderful, in it's scary sorta way. Overall, it was a great book, but I would reccomend it to anybody over 10. I give it this because JKR seemed to have used swears a little more in this book not to mention a rather funny sick joke made my Ron(hehe..it's not that sick..). Plus the ending might freak little kids out because..well, I can't tell you! That would give away the story! And if you want to find out how great the ending is, go read it!
Rating: Summary: How in the world can these books keep getting better? Review: I admit, when I finished Harry Potter and the Prisoner ofAzkaban, I had trouble imagining Rowling could top the book's twisted, inventive storyline or its blend of emotion and excitment. I am happy to say I was mistaken. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is everything the last book was and more. It is long (700 + pages) but I could have read 500 more. The story is a bit darker and more intense, but nothing out of the ordinary for Harry; the books are just progressing naturally. The plot line is even more complex than that of Azkaban (in the hands of a lesser writer, it would be unwieldy) but it ties up just as neatly as Azkaban and leaves just enough threads loose to force the reader to thought of inventing a time machine to travel foward to the release of the next book. I don't want to give anything away, except to say that old friends return and nothing is what it seems (but you knew that... it is Harry's world!). If the books keep getting better, I will have to send Rowling a request- lend me some money, because I'm up so late reading your books, I can't make it to work (or classes). P.S. I am 19, am I was very discouraged to discover I only have one friend at college who shares my love of this series. Methinks I have some "converting" to do!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: The fourth installation of the Harry Potter series is just as good as the first three. I wondered at first, at the 700-page length, but now that I've finished it, I wouldn't change a bit of it. Harry is growing up and the events in the story reflect that...just like the other 3 books, Goblet of Fire is a wonderful read for kids AND adults, either alone or together. Buy it! Read it!
Rating: Summary: More Magic With Harry Review: Gripping, action packed, lots of villians, lots of heros, new magical creatures, new spells, twists and turns, and most of all, LOTS OF FUN! Started reading it at 9 PM Sunday night and finished it at 3:30 AM. (Good thing I'm the mommy!) Rowling has created a delightful world full of extremely well-developed characters and a spell-binding plot. I think that "Goblet of Fire" is the best "Harry Potter" so far. I just wish Rowling could write as fast as I read. Hats off to Harry!
Rating: Summary: As Good As Everyone Hoped Review: Don't let the number of pages intimidate you. You'll be done before you know it and wishing for more. Illustrations, characters, and plot all met my very high expectations. The end, though never welcome, is satisfying. Not just for kids- I'm 29 and eagerly urging Scholastic to hire a maid and cook for Ms. Rowlings so she can sit and write and write and write and write and write...I'm ready for the next one!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4) Review: We had to buy 2 copies so that my 9yo daughter and I each had a copy to read! Neither of us put it down and although it was 740+ pages, it was vintage Rowling, keeping us turning the pages and we both finished within 48 hours of beginning it (now we need to catch up on our sleep). Our only question is: when is Book 5 coming out! Harry and friends are at their finest and the twists that come out should surprise and intrigue the followers of Harry. Wonderful wonderful reading and a treasure for our library (okay 2 treasures!).
