Rating: Summary: Rowling does it again! Review: J.K. Rowling does it again with Harry Potter and the goblet of fire. She pulls out the unexpected, the humourous and the scary all with her usual flair and wit. No 4 is definetly a turning point in the story, this book being much darker, and also much longer, than it's predeccessors, but HP 4 hasn't lost any of the charm we've all love and have grown to expect. Harry Potter and the goblet of fire has new characters, a dash of romance, a lot of intrigue and is one of the best books i've read in a long time! l stayed up all night to read it, probably like many potterphiles, and it was totally worth it. With the Harry Potter series i'm always dying to find out what happens next and Rowling has not disappointed. BUY THIS BOOK. BUY THE SERIES. GIVE THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW
Rating: Summary: Yet another wonderful Harry Potter book Review: Ms. Rowling has created yet another wonderful window into the world of Harry Potter and the wizards and witches of England. I spent the week prior to July 8 waiting with bated breath for the new book to arrive, and when it did, I devoured it in one sitting. I had feared that the anticipation would have built unreasonable expectations for the book but if anything, it exceeded expectations.Again, the characterizations were excellent, and we learn more about the central characters (Harry, Ron, Fred and George especially), but the development of the side characters (Neville and Snape) gave us new insight to the back story that has been building since Sorcerer's Stone. As was expected, Harry is growing up and discovers girls. The book itself takes a somewhat more "grown up" tone when compared to the previous books. The first chapter sets the mood for a darker, possibly more dangerous, more "grown up" Harry Potter, but this should not dissuade parents from letting their child read the books. I would encourage parents to read the books and discuss them with their children. The parts younger children may find frightening, such as death or possibility of death, are things that are part of life. Overall the book rates as a good addition to a great series. A must have for Harry Potter fans, and a reason for those few who haven't picked up the series to start book one.
Rating: Summary: Interesting But Repetive Review: I liked the first three but Rowling really needs to come up with more original and interesting stuff. While the volume of the story made for a deeper plot, the book dragged on at times. I thought the ending could've been better.
Rating: Summary: on the edge of my seat once again Review: Not a disappointment at all! The Harry-mania is absolutely justified. THE GOBLET OF FIRE is every bit as intriguing as the other three, and thrillingly complex! I didn't find the length to be a frustration, but rather a privilege; I loved that it was so long because I didn't want it to end. Harry's maturation is definitely manifest in this one, and there's a sophistication that his first three years didn't have. It's completely wonderful.
Rating: Summary: Magically Wonderful! Review: I thought with 734 pages that the the book would drag in places but I couldn't put it down. Full of adventure, fun, mystery and just plain great magic. This book is treat for all ages!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Review: I Love this book but I am sure that the authoress had a Disneyfied ghost writer to help her with the writing process. I immediately noticed that the pacing of the book is much quicker than the original three books about Harry Potter, lots more Spielburgish special effects coming at you on every page. Also the tone of the book has changes every so slightly to a more "action figure" script. I suppose the author has to make money just like everyone else, but I am a little disappointed, though the quality of the writing remains top notch.
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: I've only just picked up on the Harry Potter series, and I'm not the typical reader - 23 year old guy... but I have to say that the Harry Potter series is the most interesting group of novels I've ever read, even if I'm not exactly it's target audience. Book 4 hardly seems for kids to me, and I am sure that if there's been any uproar about whether some of the content is appropriate for kids before this book, it will only become an increasingly heated debate, as this book takes far darker turns than any of the other previous books. But this is part of what makes the book special. There is some pretty dark imagery and descriptions of conflict that makes me question whether or not the book is appropriate for children, but then I remember back to when I was younger, reading some of the violence of C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia, and I know that it is safe. When novelists aren't afraid to write freely, then better books are written. I believe this, because I believe that the Harry Potter series successfully uses conflict, the threat of conflict, and actual violence to create the suspense of the series. Harry Potter 4 is the equivalent of 'The Empire Strikes Back'. It is the best book yet, and it leaves me sad that I have raced through it, leaving me to wait possibly a year or more for the next installment in the series. If any of you parents have reservations, please don't! Kids are smart, and this series will challenge them in ways that others don't. Hooray for Harry!
Rating: Summary: As expected.....loved it. Review: Even if you haven't read books 1-3, Rowling does a nice job of explaining the past without going into tedious detail. This one's definitely darker than the first 3 so watch the appropriateness for little ones. Typical of Rowling, this book has creative twists and turns that make it a definite page turner. My husband and I bought two books but only one came on Saturday so we ended up fighting over the one that did arrive. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter is a Hero! Review: The truth is, I'm a bit ashamed to be caught up in a children's book so much. However, at times I find it more intriguing than classics I have read, and as well written as any book intended for adults. The first three Potter books were good. Each volume stood on its own as a great book, while being just one in a series of seven books. This book was definitely the best, most entertaining installment, and all the way through it had the feel of the first book in a series, which it wasn't. At the end, though, it became quite clear that that's what it was. The end leaves the series open to lots of suprises, and I can't wait to see what happens. This book is well worth your investment, but will leave you clamoring for the next, and I am willing to wager it might be another year before my hunger is satisfied.
Rating: Summary: Goblet of Fire a breathtaking smash! Review: Harry's experiences in the wizarding world are peeled back like the layers of an onion in this 4th Potter novel. In addition to fighting mystical battles on Hogwarts grounds in a tournament he didn't enter -- but mysteriously is selected to participate in, he finds what the things he really holds most dear are. When he is at his noblest moment, life takes a serious -- and deadly -- turn for the entire wizarding world! Rowling very successfully keeps us waiting with suspense for the next thing to happen.
