Rating: Summary: ANOTHER MAGICAL HIT! Review: Don't let the size of J.K. Rowling's latest Harry Potter adventure scare you away. Its mesmerizing plot makes it a very fast read. Here are my Top 10 Reasons to Read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: 1. Fred & George's Ten-Tongue Toffee and Canary Creams 2. Blast-Ended Skrewts and a Hungarian Horntail 3. Veela and Leprechans' Gold 4. Rita Skeeter and her Quick-Quotes Quill 5. Quidditch World Cup Souvenirs 6. The Dark Mark and Death Eaters 7. The Portkey: A Ticket to anywhere (and EVERYWHERE) 8. Mad-Eye Moody: CONSTANT VIGILANCE 9. Lord Voldemort--HEEE'S BAAAACK! 10. Harry Potter, who once again exhibits the traits of friendship, loyalty and the determination to do the right thing, even when faced with formidable foes and overwhelming circumstances. James and Lily would be proud. My advice is that you have plenty of time to finish the book, because once you start chapter thirty-one, THE THIRD TASK, you will not put it down until you're through.
Rating: Summary: I'd give it 6 stars if they'd let me Review: This is, by far the best of the series so far. The writing is magnificent, almost lyrical. I was pleased to see all our favorite characters return, and delighted to gain new insight into several of them. The history of several characters is explored a bit more in this wonderful addition to the Harry Potter series. And special thanks to Ms. Rowling for finally teaching us poor Americans how to pronounce "Hermione." I would caution parents that this is not for the youngest readers. While still retaining Ms. Rowling's blend of drama and humor, Goblet of Fire is no light-hearted romp. It is much more intense than the previous novels, and liable to send your children to you with questions. As has been reported, there is a death in this book, and it, and its consequences, are seriously addressed. Still, this is one of the best books I've read in quite some time and I strongly recommend it. If only there'd been Harry Potter in MY childhood.... Sigh.
Rating: Summary: Keeps getting better Review: With each new book, I keep thinking to myself "it just can't get any better", and they do! They become more engrossing and mesmerising and you keep wanting to know more and more about Harry Potter and his gang of friends. I believe the true strength of this series is in how well JK Rowling is aging her characters. We started seeing them at age 11 and now they are age 14 and with each book you feel that they are another year older and you can see their newfound maturaty and insecurities coming out of them and it is just masterful. So often in series what gets dull is that the main character NEVER changes, but here, you are watching Harry grow up and you truly feel like you are right there with him. The other strength of these books is that they aren't made up of cookie cutter plots, each time you think you know who the bad guy is and how Harry and his friends will face the dangers and you end up shocked at how wrong you were about everything. After I closed the back cover, I couldn't help but thinking "what a shame it is that there will be only 3 more books in this series", JK Rowling has once again cast her spell over me and you can bet that when book 5 gets released, FedEx will once again be making that special delivery to my doorstep the day of the release. If you haven't already started with these books, regardless of who you are, you will love them. This book is loved by all, young and old, because the messages that come through them are ageless. Buy them all and cherish this treasure. If you haven't read this one, buy it, I promise you'll only be left wanting for more. Thank you JK Rowling for giving the world this gift.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME Review: I'm a bit biased; I've thought Harry Potter was AWESOME fromthe begginning. Yet this 4th Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and theGoblet of Fire, totally blows the other books away. It's size might scare you, but trust me, the 734 pages is worth it. If you are only 5, it might scare you... the plot is definitely getting darker. And I can't believe that... oooh i can't spoil the ending. Don't read on if you don't want to know the basic plot. At the begginning, we are at the Riddle house, and find that Voldemort, with the assistance of Wormtail, is planning to kill Harry. Harry sees the World Cup, where dangerous things happen at the end... He stays with the Weasley's until school starts. Once there he finds that there is to be no Quidditch this year, just the Triwizard Tournament, and no surprise, after something VERY strange, he is part of it. Dangerous. Dark. You have to read it to believe it! THIS BOOK IS REALLY REALLY REALLY GREAT!
Rating: Summary: A suggestion to future reviewers... Review: I've just finished this book and it was AWSOME, the BEST yet! I don't think it could have been any better! But, what I wanted to say to anyone who reviews this in the future, DON'T, I repeat, DON'T, tell people what happens or any of the events in the book or it's spoiled! So please, if you review this book, just say your general opinion about the book, and don't give away the plot. Thank You. And Thank You JK Rowling!
Rating: Summary: J.K. Rowling can really tell a story Review: I eagerly awaited this fourth book, and because J.K. Rowling can really tell a story well, I was not disappointed. That is a feat in itself, given all the hype and expectations surrounding this book. I personally miss Harry playing Quidditch, and it's getting a little cumbersome to try and catch readers up that haven't read the first three books, but these things certainly don't detract from the book. There isn't much else I can say without giving away the story, but in this readers's opinion (a 43 yr. old adult), please ignore the hype and hoopla surrounding this book, just read it, and enjoy the amazing, magical story.
Rating: Summary: What a change! Review: The first three books were really great, I love all of them, but I think this one's my favorite so far! In the Goblet of Fire, you clearly see the characters maturing, which is great because since it takes so long for each book to come out, the readers are maturing too, some of them at the same rate, I expect, so readers have characters they can relate to. The book is much longer, but Rowling says it's definitely not the longest Harry Potter book she's going to write. And if you've heard any of the early rumors about this book- ignore them. Rowling meant the 4th book to be a turning point in the series, where the mood starts to get a bit more exciting, and at the same time more serious. I would say that the other books can be read by, or read to, 2nd graders- 2nd century-ers. But this one I would move up to 4th graders. As usual, there is a sense of mystery in the book and a huge twist in plot at the climax. On the side and in case you haven't heard, the Warner Brother's movie based on "Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone" is scheduled to come out in November, 2001. The cast will be all British, and Rowling has a say in the production (but she trusts them to do a good job).
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter - Goblet of Fire Review: Being familiar with Harry and Hogwarts you will be surpriced that this book doesn't start with Harry and you also will be amazed what that school holds in store this year. The book more and more involves the magic world outside of Hogwarts, which I truly believe enlightens the writing. Great adventures are mixed with typical teenager problems covered in Magic. Do not miss it: But - as others said before me, start with the first three, they build up ... Loved it just like the first ones and can't wait for No 5.
Rating: Summary: 700 Pages! Hee Hee Hee Review: This book is so COOL! I refused to read this series when my little brother first got them but once when I was REALLY at a lack of books I took up book one and it was GrEAT! thank whoever is up there that he had also gotten all the OTHER books! Well, this book came out and immidiately I stole it from him again and it was OUTRAGEOUS! YOu HAVE to get this book! you HAVE to read all the others first though... You'll be kicking yourself if you dont! well, It was cool AND long! GET THIS BOOK
Rating: Summary: 14 year old Harry Review: I liked this new book a lot, but it was definitely geared toward an older age group than the first three in the series. Besides seeing the students deal with crushes, the story has a more serious undertone, and it has less of a self-contained plot than the first three Harry Potters. However, it still had the humor and wacky plot reversals that made the other three books so wonderful. It was really good.
