Summary: Harry potter and the goblet of fire
Review: it is such a good book I couldn't put it down read it in four days. I think J.K. Rowling is a very creative writer, and can't wait for the fifth book and would like to say the fourth one was very moving,I cried alot and laughed alot and have started to reread the book already, and would like to clear one thing up, you pronounce Hermiones' name her-my-on-knee.

Summary: Don't let anyone tell you what happens!
Review: Read this book for yourself! Don't let anyone give away the surprises. It is SO MUCH FUN! This book has everything! It is at the same time laugh-out-loud funny (the characters, the spells, the names!) and nail-bitingly thrilling. People you learn to love and some you love to hate. Is the book too long? Hardly! The last 100 pages or so, I couldn't put it down -- the action was too quick to let go for even a minute. But try not to speed through it -- savor every sentence.

Chapter 1 will knock your socks off! Jo Rowling is an indisputable genius, and her writing just gets better and better. Not only has she created an entire complex world filled with believable characters, but those characters all have rules they have to live by, and the world itself has physical laws and limits. She maintains consistency in book four so that the world remains very, very real to us as we read it. And the imagery! It's like we're "watching" the book! We can "see" it all happening as we read. The book just opens up the whole realm of the imagination.

Harry Potter is such a joy. No wonder kids of all ages (I'm a baby-boomer!) have become fans. And for goodness' sake, start with book one! You'll understand so much more and enjoy it so much more if you start at the beginning ("HP & the Sorcerer's Stone"). As if that were a difficult assignment -- that's like saying, "Oh, no, you shouldn't eat your fourth piece of this delicious chocolate candy until you've had your first."

And the story -- well, so many adventures, so many plot twists! Who will be hurt? Whom can you trust? When can you start reading!

Summary: At least the storyline is good.
Review: (WARNING: The following THOUGHTS are rambly and somewhat disconnected, but I just thought I'd be a good citizen and point out some major flaws in this era of Harry Potter hype)---In terms of adventure and general storyline, all four books are wonderful. JK Rowling certainly has a good, avid imagination for a mother. These are definitely the books to get your kids interested in reading b/c it lets them see how enjoyable a reading experience will be. HOWEVER, being a bookworm all my life (all 23 years), I can only compare JK ROWLING story imagination rather than her WRITING STYLE to that of Jane Yolen and Madeline Engle. Her writing is very mediocre and reads like a Stephen King novel --- simple and screenwriter-ish. Whereas Yolen's and Engle's novel are much more graceful with excellent diction and word use, making a stronger reading. It would do no justice for some hollywood producers like Warner Brothers to make a 'good' Yolen Book Movie. Traditional readers who have loved Yolen, Engle, and Lloyd Alexander (The Black Cauldron series) would certainly be disappointed in the Hollywood version of their books. I mean look what happened to THE BLACK CAULDRON. It was the most horrible science fantasy book turned movie I had ever seen! They dropped out important scenes from the original Alexander book. And that's not even talking about how terrible the animation was. It's no wonder it did so bad at the box office..but I digress.. .. I predict that these upcoming Harry Potter movies will not have that same effect on me b/c these books were WRITTEN for the big screen. Potter book plot lines are predictable and sweet and made for TV. The only way Warner Brothers would butcher the movie is if they had harry potter with an American accent. In this case, the harry potter books would be another case of hollywood killing good liturature (any books that inspire you to read) b/c I ALREADY have it ingrained in my mind that the HARRY POTTER BOY IS BRITISH, not American. So get it RIGHT this time WB. WHATS MY POINT? I personally think there is a lot of hype over all four books. I read the fourth HP book in just two days. And I just cant get over feeling how could someone who's writing style is so mediocre could make millions of american dollars? I guess it goes to show what sensationalism and a person with a somewhat OK imagination can do. So parents, if you're looking for books that inspire them (your kids) to become writers or heck JUST READERS, of the traditional sort that write 'good' fiction, these would not be the books I would recommend. I give it a 3 b/c I believe writing style is just as important as writing a good adventure and JK ROWLING only got a 3 b/c of the good storytelling part. PS. For a dose of REALLY good science fantasy, 5 stars, you should read: 1) all of Mollie Hunter books (A Stranger Came Ashore, The Kelpie's Pearl, etc) Since these books were published some 30 odd years ago and the last time I read them was 12 years ago, they are no longer in print but your local library should have them. I also recommend all the Patricia C. Wrede books and her unicorn/princess books. I would also list all of Lloyd Alexander books--all the Prydain novels as well as his other children series. If you want a quick synopsis, go see the editorial reviews on these books via amazon.com These books I listed, I believe, are much better in helping your children who might be struggling writers write better.

Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Review: This fourth installment in the bewitching Harry Potter series has its readers held tight. The 734 page book is the best in the series about a wizard boy who attends Hogwarts Shcool of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The book can be a little confusing at first, but if you read the hard parts over again, it may be the best out of all.

Summary: Wow! What a book!
Review: I can't wait for Harry Potter 5! In the midst of studying cases and laws school, i squeezed in just enough time to finish goblet of fire. i'm so glad that the philippine release was also july 8! jk rowling is a wonderful storyteller. at first i thought that the plot was quite complicated. i also though she inserted too many characters. but she was able to tie everything together. the ending is something i think nobody would've ever expected. harry potter and the goblet of fire was worth the long wait!

Summary: One of the best of the series
Review: I loved J.K. Rowling's newest, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but I have some things to say. The book grabs you right from the start. Rowling doesn't bother with as much briefing of previous books as she did with the first three. I read all 734 pages in 9 1/2 hours, and stayed up til 4 in the morning. However, after reading it, I have to say, even though this is a great book, it wasn't my favorite of the series. Book Three, in my opinion, was a better book. First off, Hogwarts still had Quidditch, and even though Goblet of Fire had the Quidditch World Cup, I think Hogwarts Quidditch is more interesting. Also, Goblet of Fire's climax is a duel between Harry and Voldemort (He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, etc). Book Three was slightly more satisfying at the end, and didn't land Harry in the hospital wing. Goblet of Fire was a great book, and you should buy it if you'd don't have it, and doesn't get boring in the middle like some long books do. It was fabulous without a doubt. What I am pointing out is, despite rave reviews, this isn't the best book of the series.

Summary: Goblet of Fire is a Blockbuster!
Review: Goblet of Fire was engrossing from cover to cover. While many national reviews found it too adult-like for children, I think a major point is being missed. Harry is growing up just as our children are growing up. Little by little, these books are gaining a broader perspective. How boring would this book be if every conflict was wraped in a neat little bow? Bravo, JK, for continuing to give us something different and challenging. Many Star Wars fans feel that The Empire Strikes Back is the best episode, and many Harry Potter fans will think Goblet of Fire is the best book for some of the same reasons.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best book so far!
Review: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is by FAR the best book in the Harry series. Yes, I'm sure you know it's 734 pages long, but it is worth every word. Rowling is getting comfortable with the characters of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and the story seemed to tell what they were really like. The book had so many details that enhanced it so much, but I odn't want to spoil the book for anyone, so do yourself a favor- get a copy today and READ IT!

Summary: One and a half days of Harry Potter
Review: Or at least that's how I spent my weekend. I read it and read it and didn't put it down until I had gotten all the way to the back cover. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire had me entranced, Harry, Hermione (whose name I finally know how to pronounce), Ron- they'd all grown, and there was further growing in store for them. This 4th book answered many many questions yet left me with many more. There is an immense change in this book, no longer is everything happy and tied up nicely, everything is changing, there IS definately a dark side to Rowling's writing now. She takes us from the Quidditch World Cup back to Hogwarts, and at Hogwarts things are different too, certain events have changed, and there is soemthing BIG waiting not just for Harry but for all students of Hogwarts. One thing though- for all those who hate Draco Malfoy (and who doesn't), you have a wonderful treat in store! If you loved all the other Harry Potter books, you'll love this one, different as it is, and like me you'll be hanging out for number Five.
