Review: I only heard about Harry Potter in the last two months (I know I must be living under a rock), but managed to read all three in the series before the Goblet of Fire came out and couldn't believe that this could live up to all the hype, and improve on the Prisoners of Azkaban. Incredibly it does, however, and I couldn't put the book down for three days, whilst I read this wonderful story. I still think, however, that the dementors are more frightening tha Voldemort. Can't wait for Book 5, 6 and 7. How JK Rowling can keep living up to expectations I do not know, but I sure hope she does. Yours a reluctant Muggle.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Best Harry Potter yet! Review: This is the most exciting book in the series so far-- the plot is less formulaic and everything just flows, though you still never know what's going to happen next. The characters grow up a bit as they deal with bigger/smaller problems than simply solving Mystery? Evil. This is a pivotal point and big change in the series, and instead of being open-and-shut, it's more like a stepping stone that leaves you begging for more. (I would've been happy if it'd been 1700 pages long!) Can't wait till Harry's 5th year at Hogwarts!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A great, but flawed book Review: The Harry Potter books, like the Star Wars films, are review-proof. For those that love them, there is no argument that can persuade him or her to think otherwise. Nor would I want to persuade anyone who cherishes these books to think otherwise. I think it's a great series, and an historic one - if for no other reason than it has encouraged parents to read to their kids (as I do with my 5 boys) more than any other book since Tolkien's "The Hobbit".Nevertheless, "The Goblet of Fire" is not without it's flaws. Rowling's prose continues to be pedestrian at best - and at worst, irritating. I don't find this too much of a problem when reading to my kids I can pass over such akward phrases as "'What are you guys doing?' asked Hermione questioningly." replacing it by simply reading "What are you guys doing?" in my rendition of Hermione's voice (with a questioning tone.) Rowling also needs to drop all the long paragraphs recapping the events of the previous books. At this rate, Book 7 will be four thousand pages long and 3000 of those pages will be used to recap what went before. She should start assuming that people have read the previous books, and keep the recapping to a minimum. If new readers are losts, that's their problem (which they can solve with a quick jaunt to the library or bookstore). This change will make for a cleaner, crisper, and more exciting narrative. My final quibble is that in "The Goblet of Fire", we have two chapters near the end that mostly consist of the villain(s) telling Harry how clever their plans were and what they were doing behind the scenes during the previous 400 pages. It's nice to tie up loose ends, but too much of it done in this fashion is boring. Rowling needs to get away from these soliloquoys. If in future books, Rowling's prose can grow to match her vision, she will have created a work for the ages. But beyond that, "The Goblet of Fire" still manages to be an exciting book with great characters. Rowling's wonderful inventiveness in creating this world of wizards, muggles, magical creatures, and dark forces, still inspires. She has also lost none of her ability to make me laugh outloud while reading - without compromising the integrity of the story or the characters. No small feat that. Finally, "The Goblet of Fire" takes the story of Harry's life in new and unexpected directions. I eagerly await the next volume and I envy anyone who has not yet met Harry Potter. You have a great treat in store.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Review: This book is one of the best things that I have read in years. It contains the perfect mix of humor, enchantment, and horror. I would like to give kudos to J.K. Rowling, for who else could keep a children's series going, and make it better with each step. Harry's journey is just as magical now as it was in the first novel and it leaves the reader wanting book five. Every aspect of the world is falling into place, and it is so complete that you fell like you are in it. Keep it up! Anyone who hasn't read Harry, start now. You won't be able to stop.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A good fourth year Review: Blimey, that was a good one ! Don't be afraid of the 734 pages. They are useful, because so many things happen when you are in 4th year at Hogwarts. It is true that this book might be a little frightening for young readers, but their parents might enjoy it as much as I did. The Yule Ball was a little bit foreign to me, but I think it reflects english life. Fleur's accent however seems a good one. Like mine. It is a wonder that Mrs Rowling didn't mix her caracters, because there are a plenty. But she features them well, each has its own personnality. If you meet them in the street, don't say anything, they are trying to fool the muggles. I'm waiting for the 5th year at Hogwarts.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Disappointing Fourth Book Doesn't Live up to Expectations Review: The fourth Harry Potter book turns out to be the worst of the series so far. This comes as a surprise considering that the third was so good. The 700+ page book has enough good parts to make an incredible 300 page story, but all those extra pages drag everything down. The author meanders through the story, slowing it down and draining excitement. Too much time is spent building up to the point when Harry arrives at Hogwarts. From there, it hardly gets better. At least one side-story (involving Hermione and house-elves) seems to have been included just to make the book longer. I was rather disappointed by the ending, but won't give it away. I just hope that Rowling returns more to the form of the earlier books which featured interesting and tighter plots combined with creative settings. The only real reason to read the book is that the events contained in it are vastly important to the future novels.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent Book! Review: This is the best Harry Potter book yet! I thought this about each book as I read them and they just keep getting better and better. I'm 15 and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. So I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves to read of any age! However, in the latest book the plot gets more complicated than ever making it more of a page tuner!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: yet another awesome book by J.K. Rowling Review: I have just finished J.K Rowling's 4th book, Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire. If you have not started reading Harry Potter books then you are missing out on a whole lot of exciting reading. This book was the longest by far. I was very happy at that. When you finish Harry Potter books you literally wish you hadn't finished. Its like you never want the books to end. I am very anxious for the 5th book to come out but i will be saddened when the 7th, and final book is released and read. I must reccommend this book to anyone who can read. That is how good it is. I give this book top ratings and a Thank you to J.K. Rowling for writing such wonderful books for kids today. You really have changed the world.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: GREAT BOOK! Review: J.K ROWLING HAS WRITTEN A GREAT BOOK. HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE IS WORTH READING. A SUGGESTION FROM ME IS IF YOU WANT TO READ THIS BOOK AND UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPENNING AND WHO SOME PEOPLE ARE READ THE FIRST THREE BOOKS FIRST. I ENJOYED READING THE BOOK EXCEPT THAT I FOUND THE QUIDITCH WORLD CUP A BIT CORNY AND THOUGHT THE BOOK COULD'VE BEEN SHORTER. STILL, YOU SHOULD BUY THIS BOOK.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: It wasn't that great to me Review: I was very excited to get the latest Harry Potter book, and Ifinished it in about 2 days. But in my opinion, most people onlyliked this book so much because they were so excited to finally have it. I'm still anxious to read #5, but this book was really depressing! I won't discuss the exact plot, but this series is getting grimmer and grimmer! That in itself wouldn't be so bad, since I'm used to reading grim books, but the only comic relief was obnoxious little comments from the kids! Yes, I thought they were funny, but one of the things I loved about these books was the funny way in which things were described! Like in the first book, how Baby Dudley looked like a large pink beachball in different-colored bonnets! I know that I'm probably taking this book too seriously, but I'm sick of hearing how great this book is just because it's new.
