Summary: Almost Perfect
Review: Let me start by saying I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I actually think The Goblet of Fire deserved 4 1/2 stars, but I figured that my 4 star review isn't going to put a dent in the average review! I just have one quibble with this book. I have read the first four books several times each, and it wasn't until my 3rd or 4th run through that I had a problem with this one. I don't want to give too much away, but let me just say that there is a character who is not what he seems (big surprise, huh?) This is true in all of the books. We never really know who the "bad guy" is until a dramatic scene. In the first three, when you go back and reread them with the knowledge of how it all works out, you can see how it all fits together. I think of scenes in earlier books with Quirrel and Sirius Black. We are led to believe one thing, but after knowing the conclusion, we can see how we were fooled. Here it is not the case. I feel a little cheated because we are so blindsided, and the actions and personality of a particular character are hard to believe after knowing the outcome. I apologize for the cryptic review, but I am a big reading fan, and for me, one of the worst things is to have a book spoiled for me. I find that too often, people who hated a book will put major plot details into their reviews because they were so unhappy they don't care. I think that stinks!

That being said, this was a wonderful book. I had no problems on my first reading, or the second. Plenty of other reviewers have run down the list of great qualities this book has, I just think after multiple readings that Book 3 was stronger overall.

Summary: Best yet
Review: The Harry Potter books live up to the hype, which is saying something, and this is the best of the lot (so far). I have to admit I was skeptical: The Potter books have gotten steadily thicker, this one covering nearly 800 pages. Had success rendered J.K. Rowling self-indulgent, beyond the discipline of editors? Hardly. This may be the fastest 800 pages I've ever read, and I was disappointed when the story ended. As the series has continued, Rowling has found a balance between the comfortably familiar - how we always join Harry right around his birthday, tag along on the annual trek to Hogwart's, witness Peeves' shenanigans - and astounding new creations - such as the Veelas in this book and the Dementors in the previous one. It is great fun to see the characters grow up: watching Hermione mature into what will no doubt be a formidable and impressive young woman; understanding Ron's embarrassment at his cheap clothes - even while we know he should be prouder of his family than any kid at Hogwarts. For this reader, Harry's nervousness, excitement and despair over approaching Cho Chang for a date to the Yule Ball brought back very old memories indeed. I loved this book even though my kids threatened to reveal a key plot twist before I got to it. Another reason to grab the next one before they do.

Summary: Audio Book Review
Review: I had read all four of the Harry Potter books before and, on a whim, I picked up the fourth book on audio cd. I was just curious to see how the reader (Jim Dale) interpretted the book. To my immense surprise and pleasure, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Jim Dale brings life to every aspect of the story. I have since gone back and bought the other three books on audio cd and listened to them also. The first one isn't as good as the other three (he is still discovering all the voices). I would recommend to everyone to pick up the audio cd's for books 2, 3 and 4. I have already pre-order book five (in both hardback and audio cd). Just something about listening to a riveting tale while driving in my car to and from work.

Summary: why don't we put on more stars?
Review: i was stuck on the book when i read it for the first time. i have all series and i read all more than 10 times already. this book is yet the best, and i really don't know what will i do when Harry finish his 7 years in Hogwarts. Mrs. Rowling, why don't you write about Harry until he, well... dies perhaps?

Summary: Better all the time. . . .
Review: Rowling continues to get better all the time. I rank this book right up there with great novels like James Stoddard's The High House, and Ursula LeGuin's A Wizard of Earthsea. I can't wait to see what happens when Harry graduates.

Summary: Harry Potter dazzels the imagination in book 4
Review: Harry and his friend have the most amazing adventures to date at Hogwarts. This book is a must have for young and old. Many new charicters are introduced and the mystery unfolds as you experiance the excitement of the Tri Wizards Tournement. It's hard to put this one down and leaves you begging for the next book in the series.

Summary: Too Dang Long!
Review: While this book is a reasonably good read, it should really have been published as two books, "Harry Potter's Summer Vacation," and then the school year part of the book.

At this point, Ms. Rowling could also really use an editor with the nerve to edit. I thought the book really bogged down in the middle (around the Christmas Ball), and I might have put it down and never finished it except that I'd promised my copy to a small friend and felt obligated to read the whole thing so we could discuss it. The small friend's mother said she skipped entire chapters which did not seem to be taking the action forward.

This book could really have been 300 or more pages shorter. If there's a Reader's Digest version of it, I highly recommend reading that instead of the entire book unless you're just deeply in love with the world of Harry Potter.

I'm also really starting to find Harry to be a bit shallow and passive. He never seems to solve his own problems; someone else always steps in and rescues him, or his mysterious power over Voldemort saves him without Harry being forced to use his brain. If you also prefer a hero who has to overcome his own challenges, I recommend Taran in Lloyd Alexander's Prydain books.

My fantasy is that at some point Hermione will turn out to be the real heroine! Let's reward someone with knowledge and smarts! She will turn out to be Harry's twin sister separated at birth, with the same powers over Voldemort, and since Voldemort doesn't know to be careful of her, she will save the wizard world!

Summary: The best in the series, thus far!
Review: A fantastic addition to the series, not only because it was an interesting tale and was packed with action -- but because, for the first time, you get to see the main characters experience "growing pains." The characters seemed to be 12-years-old for the first three books -- now, they act and feel more like the teenagers they are!

Summary: Great Book.
Review: This is a great book. Whoever is criticizing HP because of witchcraft etc., really needs to get a life. J.K. Rowling found a way to get kids to READ besides watching mindless television. That's the most important thing.

Three cheers for Harry----can't wait 'til June!

Summary: Potter fans will not be disappointed!
Review: Even if parts of the book seem a bit too long, Potter fans are ultimately rewarded with a dark and spine-tingling ending that leaves many plot threads open. The difference in this book from the others: the emerging adolescence of Harry, Ron, and Hermione; a greater role of the Ministry of Magic; and a sinister ending that has me holding my breath for the next volume.
