Rating: Summary: A REALLY GOOD Book Review: In the previous books of "Harry Potter", Harry had adventures in every book. Now, there's more! When "The Triwizard Tournament" is said to be hold at Hogwarts (a wizard school), Harry wants to be in it; but the rules said that you have to be at least 17 years old to enter. So when Harry name's comes out of the "Goblet of Fire", everyone is surprised-even Harry. And that's when Harry's troubles begin. He has to collect an egg protect by a dragon; rescue his friend from the merpeople; and has to go through a maze to win the game. He has to do this very carefully, or he will be dead. I think "Harry Potter" is a VERY GOOD book, because it has adventures and humor and all kinds of people, and, of course, Harry (of course there is more). In my opinion, Harry is very brave to face all the things that have come before him, whether good or bad. Have you read the book yet?
Rating: Summary: Over 2000 reviews in under a month: You make the call. Review: Like some of the other reviewers, I am not in the sterotypical Harry Potter age group--I'm 32. Yet, I read this book in one day. The Goblet of Fire is a classic. Some of the youngest readers will be reading this series to their children and grandchildren. While I will agree with some reviewers that this book is darker in tone than the other books, I do not see this as a bad thing. Read Dahl, the Peach ran over James's relatives...Matilda had a messed up family...and hunters were turned into ducks in The Magic Finger. Not everything is sweet and nice in the world, but good still opposes evil which is a common theme in this series even when people try to demonize it. I am eagerly waiting for Book 5--even to a greater extent than I waited for this book--just to see what will happen next. In light of this story how can anything be the same ever again? I've been going into withdrawls already and am starting to reread the series. Don't let the age range amazon lists deter you from reading any of these books. You'll truly be missing out.
Rating: Summary: VERY LAME Review: the first book was very pitiful. jk rowling seemed to strain to keep the chapter going. i am not a fan. very simple and predictable. this series is not very entertaining. i am sorry, all you fans.
Rating: Summary: Lived Up to the Hype (Pretty Much) Review: We all knew this book would be a bestseller but would it live up to the hype? No book in history has had this kind of pre-publication mania. It would take a great book to survive that kind of publicity. Fortunately for children and adults everywhere, Rowling pulls it off. My biggest concern about the book is its length. When I heard about the size this book was going to be, I thought Ms. Rowling might have bitten off a bit more than she could chew. I, for one, enjoy long novels. In fact, one of my pet peeves about the modern novel is that these 180 page knock-offs are being touted as novels. However, a long novel that is very readable, especially when your target audience is kids, is a major task--a task Ms. Rowling accomplishes admirably. The conceit of the Triwizard Tournament really keeps the book going and opens up a lot of possibilities for interaction with the other magic schools which I think can really add something to the future books. If I have any concern about the book is that it really leaves me wondering about the future books. I enjoyed the "school atmosphere" of the first four books which I don't think can be sustained since a pitched battle with Voldemort must be coming. Real life is going to draw the focus away from Hogwarts. I hope this doesn't happen to a great extent. Still, this book shows that book 5 will be another bestseller, and deservedly so. I know that Ms. Rowling writes for children and I'm not one but I've always said that a truly good "children's books" will also appeal to adults. This series certainly does and I'd like to compliment Ms. Rowling for a job well done. I look forward to future volumes with the excitement of a child.
Rating: Summary: The best book I ever read in my life! Review: I loved this book! You need to read it. IT is the longest book I ever read and the best! I loved every word of this book! Its funny, exciting, and mysterious.
Rating: Summary: Rowling is rolling Review: I don't know what else I can say about this book that over 2000 people haven't already, but here goes. First off, I am 27 years old and have read dozens and dozens of fantasy novels. Harry Potter ranks with the best of them all. J. K. Rowling is superb. Her language keept me reading, laughing, reading, thinking, reading and most importantly.... reading. I could not put this book down. (I was late to work (more than once) ) The villians are wonderfully evil. There is none more horrid than Voldemort, who becomes ever more dark in this novel. His cronies are perfect too. I had no guess who the inside person was. Rowling is perfect! Good luck in making this book last more than three days :)
Rating: Summary: A content muggle Review: I thought the latest installment in the Harry Potter series exceptional! JK Rowling handles the plot with penache and delivers a story that has her readers clamoring for more. She strings the reader along with clues and hints, only to deliver a twisted and unexpected ending...or beginning as she cleverly puts it. She deals out just enough information to keep you interested, but still curious. There are still multiple questions left unanswered and many plot twists that could occur. The story was excellent and a wonderful follow-up to the celebrated third book. My only problem was with the length. I think Rowling could have done w/o the repetative details. It slowed down the plot and caused the middle of the stroy to drag. As a result, book four was fabulous--but short of perfection. Book three still remains my absloute favorite.
Rating: Summary: could be better Review: i half agree with the review given earlier of the title:"disappointing." the book starts off well, but J.K. Rowlingdoesnt include as much of her delightful imagery. she really fell off when describing the feasts, and the halloween and christmas events. I really like the idea of having a triwizard tournament, but there was way too much cheating. the contestants should have done more by themselves, especially Harry. But the first task of the tournament, i have to give J.K. credit for, it was spellbinding. Anyway, i shouldnt be talking down about this book so much when i read it in 2 days. it was not the authors best writing but it was a great book anyway.
Rating: Summary: Not just for kids! Review: Ages 9-12 shouldn't get to have all the fun! "The Goblet of Fire" is a terrific story for anyone who has ever wanted to fly or gazed longingly at a poster of a favorite athlete, wishing that athlete could come to life. JK Rowling makes it happen and if your imagination hasn't been too stifled and trodden down by the concerns of everyday life, then this book might be for you, no matter what your age. "The Goblet of Fire" is exciting, funny, frightening and impossible to put down. I kept telling myself "just one more chapter" until I had finished the final 450 pages in one fell swoop! The hype and hyperbole proved to be fully justified and Ms Rowling has shown herself to be a wonderfully creative and insightful writer. As a junior high and high school English teacher, one of my main frustrations is the fact that my students don't want to read for pleasure, even when given time to do so in class. However, the Harry Potter series has renewed the hope with which I began my career 15 years ago, that books and good, old-fashioned story-telling and imagination weren't yet out of style. Thanks, Ms Rowling, for Harry Potter, Hermione, Ron and the rest of the Hogwarts gang, yes, even Draco Malfoy, the kid we all love to hate! And thanks, too, for bringing back my own junior high memories after all these years with your refreshingly honest and accurate portrayals of young boys and girls discovering new experiences and getting to know each other again for the first time.
