Rating: Summary: Long read, just barely reached expectations Review: Rowling takes her time to build up the scenes, so readers had better be patient. Many times I lifted my eyes from the book and wondered, "Does she REALLY need to go through with all these sub-plots?" Somehow, I doubt it. (also the joke involving a planet raises the eyebrow. Com'on, was it really necessary? Surely one can write a decent, even brilliant, book without adding tasteless jokes) Still, at the end of the book, one does feel that she has successfully enlarged the plot, introducing many intriguing possibilities. Also there is a sense of an impending show-down between the forces of Good and Evil. Though Snape is the character I would like to hate the most, he's probably the only one in the book who refuses to be categorised as the Good Guy or the Nasty Guy. The book just barely reaches expectations... okay, the faithful servant of Voldemort is pretty hard to guess, but the one who would die was pretty obvious. And dissapointing. MAJOR character? Sez who? I don't dare say more for fear of revealing too much, but I was prepared to 'sacrifice' bigger, more well-developed characters to feel the grief that reviews had been preparing me for. The ending when they were asked to remember _____ (the one who died) was pretty corny, I thought. Let's not stoop to facetiousness. One last question. There was a superb opportunity in the book to talk about slavery, but the book glosses over it. Apparently there are creatures who love being slaves. This might be a really original theme in the history of literature. It wasn't amusing nor did it contribute much to the general plot, so why this approach?
Rating: Summary: WIZARDS AND WITHCHES GALLOR Review: THIS BOOK IS SUPER-DE-DUPER BECAUSE IT SHOWS MORE OF HARRYPOTTER'S LIFE AS A WIZARD LEARNING HIS SKILLS. HE IS VERY INTERESTING AND IF YOU READ ANY OF THE HARRY POTTER BOOKS YOU WILL LOVE THIS ONE!
Rating: Summary: longer but shorter Review: I really, really enjoyed this book. I'm 14, same age as Harry, but not many people my age (that I know) read these books. That's a shame, I say, so I always bring my copies to school and loan them out. (One of my friends called me her Librarian.) I just really think that everyone should read these books because they're funny, but at the same time very serious. You exercise your imagination, and, no matter how cheesy it sounds, you learn something, too. Everytime I read one of these books I just kind of have to sit, thinking of everything new I've learned from it. In book #4, I'm even more crazy to get to the next book, because this one is definitely more of a cliffhanger than the other three. While it was over twice as long, it seemed shorter because I still have so many unanswered questions. I'm just waiting for next year and the next book . . . .
Rating: Summary: The best book written Review: This book is absolutly AMAZING! When I was reading it I couldn't put it down! It's definatly darker than the other books, though. I know people think that because the book is so long it will be boring, but it isn't. There is a new adventure in every chapter and lots of danger. Plus, if you haven't already heard, someone dies.OHhhhh. (creepy isn't it?) The begining is different, too. All I have to say is that the book is worth every penny of the price, and I know you will love it.
Rating: Summary: BRILLIANT! Review: I've read the first three books 9 times each and cant get enough of them.I'm reading the fourth book for the 3'rd time now and I keep rereading the ending which is incredible and makes you feel like you are right there with him. The fourth book is much darker and much more exciting than any of the others and the triwizard tournament gives it a certain action packed edge. It has so many things happening that it keeps you guesing all the way through and there is only one word to describe it..... BRILLIANT!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the goblet of fire Review: I was given this book for my 10th birthday and could hardly wait to read it! I am not yet done with my book but I'm nearing the end. I can hardly put the book down but I have to because eventually after a night's reading I have to go to sleep! I think this is the best book out of the series. It is darker and more exciting than the rest of the books and I can't wait for the fifth book. I hope it comes soon! I feel like I am in the book with Harry and Hermoine and Ron. In this book the Wizardry tournament was exhilirating and spooky at the same time. I loved it! At the end of the book when he meets Lord Volderment my heart was in my throat. I really liked the part where Harry had to use a secret password via the portrait in order to get into the Common room -- that was really clever. I wish I could learn how to play Quidditch. It sounds exciting to zoom around on broomsticks. I liked it when Harry was in a tight fix in the second task where he had to drag Ron and another girl out of the water so that they could breathe. I liked the character Professor Moody for his magical eye and Siruis Black, Harry's Godfather for his witty comments. Keep it up JK Rowling and write the fifth one fast please!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling Review: This is a great book! For all Harry Potter fans or just those with great imaginations J.k. Rowling takes you on a wild ride full of mystery and twists you'd never think of. Although listed as a childrens book it is for everyone who is a child at heart and loves a good fantasy book. It is long in lenghth but I couldn't put it down anyway. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: nice but long Review: I think Harry Potter the 4th is kind of long for a childrens book and more complicating than the rest of Harry Potter books but it goes into more details and most younger kids (7-9)get bored of readimg so much but i liked it and cant wait for the fifth
Rating: Summary: A wonderful tale Review: Trust me, this book was worth the wait. Full of suspense and mystery, the 4th installment in the Harry Potter set was just as exciting and quite literally magical, as the last 3 books. Though Quiditch doesn't play as large a part in this book as it does others, the world cup is exciting, and even if it is disapionting that it takes such a small role, the plot in this book well makes up for it. I'm not telling any more except to say... 1) This book is indeed, much darker. The Dark Lord ruthlessly persues Harry through out this novel 2) The sparks between Ron and Hermione are even more obvious 3)If you like Quiditch, you will love reading about the Triwizard tournament. Take my word for it...if you liked the others books, you will not be able to resist this one...a great story for all ages!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Beyond Words Review: Entering the world of Harry Potter is better than living all the fantasies you had growing up - because it's all made real through every word. You begin to live the characters and move into their world. One moment you have magic spells and dragons to deal with. The next, you find yourself experiencing the joys and pains of becoming a teenager. The story is extraordinarily well developed. It never stops and always makes you want to keep going. This is a perfect series of books that truly gets better each time you pick them up. The character names and story lines will become embedded in your mind. Book #5 cannot come soon enough.
