I love you!
Rating: Summary: Four in a Row............Wow! Review: This is a marvelous work; well written, imaginative and delightful for audiences of all ages. If you will permit a brief aside, it is quite amazing to see how the New York Times, in its infinite wisdom, has changed the format of its bestseller lists to "create" a new children's books category (not that iteally matters). Is it perhaps to reflect the growing popularity of this category? Or maybe it is to soothe the fragile egos and tender sensibilities of our intellectual elite who, despite their expanding arrogance, have been left in the commercial dust by a writer of mere children's books. Heaven help us! Ms. Rowling has moved her readers, touching their hearts and stimulating their minds in a way that this sorry collection of bluster and pomposity has failed to do. It is this same condescension demonstrated by those of similar mind set which has kept the Harry Potter books receiving literary prizes and awards. Yet while the so-called intellectual elite sip their wine and nibble on cheese, the rest of us, adults and children alike, while perhaps not with the delicate "pinkies-out" sensibilities the tea and croissant crowd, will revel in our collective ignorance and enjoy this absolutely marvelous work of fiction (all of the books in the series are great fun). Barbarians all, we recognize that the purpose of literature is to inspire, to enlighten, to stimulate and to entertain. The great joy in this is the misery of our cerebral friends as they squirm and wriggle in collective dismay at the success of a writer of popular fiction. What's next? Pulitzer's for Fabio-covered romance novels? Booker's for HOW TO BUILD A BARBECUE? Truly the savages are at the doorstep.
Rating: Summary: It was certainly great...but.. Review: I'm 17years old and I spent the whole night reading it. When I finally finished reading it ,well .... It was indeed fun but the plot is always neary the same. "Harry is sending a horrible time with the Dursleys and someone always rescuses him, he goes to school where Malfoy and Snape make him miserable, gets himself involed in something that never happens to other students, runs into Voldermort or one of his followers, and escapes narrowly with a wound or two , and becomes a hero." Isn't it about time for a unpredictable plot to come out? Honestly the same thing every time... using it 4 times is just too much.
Rating: Summary: good book dosn't begin to describe it.... Review: Like I said good book dosn't begin to describe it. It satififies everthing I look for in a book, Mystery, humor, and adventure. All in all its a good book, normanly i would have some complaints like its predicatable,I mean we know he turns out alright but some how the writer makes you forget that.
Rating: Summary: The Goblet of Fire is the best yet! Review: Harry Potter #4 is the best book so far. This was what I least expected. First there is a set tournament that the whole school watches. Not sneaking down to meet Fluffy the three headed dog, or going up to the Shrieking Shack to see Sirius Black. Not that it falls short of the other books, I'd say it exceeds them by a lot. There is still all the ties that twist together in the end, which I think J.K. Rowling has a talent for. This far exceeds the Hobbit and the Redwall series. Another reviewer said that they could not concentrate on the book, and at times it was boring. In the beginning the going is a little slow , but it all has to do with the ties. If you don't want to read the beginning the book is not as good in the end. The thing that makes this and the other books so popular is that people can identify with them, that's why the appeal to the wide range of ages. We have all had the big tests, The unfairness that we can't control, and the risk taking thats in us too. The book's descriptions are quite good, you feel like you're there with Harry battling with Profeser Quirrel, or eating the squishy, and wormy gillyweed in Book 4. However all the books are a little sexist. There are only Two women professers, Trelawnry and McGonagall. Trelawnry is shown to be basically a fake. McGonagall is Super strict and never lets anything go by her. There are no woman characters that are charming like professer Lupin. Hermione is also following the McGonagall way, very strict. Although Hermione has been letting up on the strictness through each book, its still there. This is definately one of the best books I'v read, and even though it costs a little more you should get it. Its more than seven hundred hundred pages of one of the best book ever.
Rating: Summary: This is the Best of The Best! Review: Most people in this day and age, have seen, read or at least HEARD of Harry Potter, the wizard. Being so popular here, I wish the same went for him in the wizard world with the Slytherins. I'll tell you more about the book next. Now, in this book, Harry's summer vacation starts out like usual; spending 3/4 of vacation with the Dursley's, and the rest with the Weasley's. This summer, Harry gets a chance to go to the Quidditch World Cup. All starts out ok, and all worries are gone for the day, until that night. The Death Eaters have come out of hiding, and the Dark Mark is in the sky. When Harry, Hermione, and Ron return to school, the learn about the Triwizard Tournament. Of course Harry gets picked to be in the tournament, as well as 3 other people, 2 being from OTHER schools! Here it gets very interesting. Harry and the others must complete three dangerous tasks to see who will be the champion. Does Voldemort return for Harry? Will someone die? Who wins the Quidditch World Cup? What is Mr. Crouch's big secret? I won't go into detail, so to find out more, read the book! It'll keep you busy for hours and hours! Trust me!
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: I loved all of the other Harry Potter books, and this one was definitely worth the wait. I enjoyed every second I read, it had a very interesting and very creative plot, and it was very well written, keeping me interested and wanting to read. These books are for everyone, from small children to old people, I think everyone can enjoy them as much as I did. I am very excited about the next book, and the books after that!
Rating: Summary: A Book for All Ages Review: I recently picked up the first book in the Harry Potter series at the Raleigh-Durham airport in North Carolina for 7 dollars(paperback) figuring I would give it a chance. It was recommended to me by my Honors English teacher who is in her late 60's and was reading the book in class while we were working. So, I climbed aboard my 90 minute flight to Orlando and settled down for some nice reading. I read over 200 pages in those 90 minutes of one of the best books I have ever opened. I quickly finished that book and immediately went out and bought the other three, and finished each of those in about 24 hours each. The Goblet of Fire, however, has been my favorite so far. Harry's adventures in the TriWizard Tournament kept my eyes glued to the pages. I remember looking up and thinking, "Wow...I've just read 500 pages." Basically what I'm trying to say is that, this is not just a kid's book, it is a book for anyone who has imagination, would like a good laugh, likes surprise endings, likes fantasy books, or just someone who likes to read. The Goblet of Fire is a book that can be enjoyed by everyone. So, go pick up this newest Harry Potter book, or if you haven't read any of them, start at the beginning and work your way up. I guarantee, you will find yourself absorbed as I and others have been in tales of Quidditch, Animagi, and of course, Harry Potter himself.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: When every there is a series where it has a preset amount of books or it countinues on and on like a comic books series I always worry that the books will get predictable. While some things obviously where going to happen I was astonished at the surprises that happened throughout the enitire book. I love the growing minds of these now teenage characters. Instead of being children and stuck in time to face their challenges they are growing. Right before our eyes Harry and the rest are comming of age. The end of this story had me reading intently as I wished year 5 would come out sooner. As what seems to almost be, if not, the climax of this 7 part wonder I'm eagerly awaiting what will happen next as I know the stakes will now be even higher than in the past. Marvelous book.
Rating: Summary: Dazzling! Review: Rowling has done it again! People all around the world waited for July 8th to deliver Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Now its here, and we can't get enough! Again, Rowling shines through with a vivid imagination, sense of emotion, and the spirit only few others have. If Harry Potter were a drug, I'd be in rehab. (just kidding!) I finished it twice in three days. Crazed?...maybe. But, how long does the world have to wait for a fifth?
