Summary: Not a kid's book, after all
Review: I had put off reading these for so long because I had automatically assumed that they were kid's books. Well, they aren't, they can easily be enjoyed by adults as well.

As I was saying I had put off reading the Potter series until 5 days ago; I had spent the last 5 days staying up till 3 AM (yes i woke up at noon, but thats beyond the point)each day, reading these books. They are highly addictive and fun. While the story outline is always predictable: Harry has unpleasant life with Dursleys, Harry goes to Hogwarts where he faces challanges that only HE and his friends can solve, Harry manages to defeat great evil, in one way or another, Harry is praised by everyone (except the Slytherins). The storyLINE is full of surprises. You can never tell who the main "villain" is, until the end... This coupled with the fact that the book's focus is always around Harry (so you don't have to follow 5 story-lines at once) and Rowling's great sense of humor makes for some very addictive reading. The nature of the magic in these books is less "realistic" than in other fantasy books, because it doesn't really follow any specific rules but if you don't take it too seriously it shouldn't detract from your enjoyment of the books. So far these books have proved to be entertaining, I sincerely (sp?) hope that Rowling keeps this up.

Summary: Reed it ! Love it !
Review: Finally , the latest installment arrived. This one is the best ! Although lots of kids may not feel comfort about some part of the story I feel a bit annoy in the middle because things seem to be too easy but the last 200 pages explain it all ! I can't hardly wait for the next one after that enthralled ending. Reed it! Love it! Bless U Ms. Rowling! And keep Wruting!

Summary: Don't buy the hype
Review: First off this book was not an amazing achievement in the literary world. Many authors have written books that have far surpassed this novel that basically cuts storylines from the other three novles and jams them in here. Secondly I liked Rowling the first time when her name was Rhoad Dahl, her writing style is almost identical.

Now adressing this whole cencorship thing, because of the (threatening music) "Withcraft" involved. The Christan Coaliton has no right to make their poor attempts to deprive this novel of sales. The Witchraft used in the book is in no way depicting evil. The witchcraft in the book is like slapstick withcraft with the traditional "Eye of Newt" type of hokey magic. Overall buy the book just to see what is going on....but don't sit and wait around for the next installments.

Summary: OK, Harry Potter, you win....
Review: I resisted the Potter books till the 4th one came into the bookstores & flew off the shelves faster than any book I've ever seen. Curiosity got the better of me & I had to see what all the fuss was about. Not being one to skip steps, I started with the first book. (I was hooked.) Then came the second & third. By the time I got to The Goblet of Fire, I was holding my hand on the bottom of each page so my eyes couldn't skim downward to see what was happening next. J.K.Rowling truly out-did herself with this last adventure of Harry's. The author's imagination & story-telling mastery capture your "kidness" & keep you turning the pages as quickly as you can read. The characters are fanciful, the magic is enchanting, the creatures are sometimes horrible & frightening...and the story is like none other. The Potter books are destined to be classics.... don't wait too much longer to find out what all "the fuss is about." Just a hint... start with the first volume & maybe no one will call you a "Muggle."

Summary: Should have scraped the middle out of this Oreo cookie
Review: The beginning and the ending of this book were suspenseful, exciting, purposeful. There is a beautiful development through these books, with each one becoming more adult and complex. The characters are growing up and learning to deal not only with each other but with a magical world that is far from a Disney fairy tale.

What, then, justified the long, wasteful and unnecessary chapters on the Triwizard Tournament? Hundreds of pages about a contest that essentially takes place on three specific days. And we are expected to believe that two other heads of magical schools would leave their own schools for an entire school year, just to sit at Hogwarts waiting for the contest days? And what did the extra students, those not selected for the tournament, do all year? And most importantly, why didn't the Traitor simply give Harry a portkey at the beginning? What on earth was the point of waiting until the end of the tournament? There was no point except to deliver a longer book.

J.K. Rowling should be very proud of herself for this work overall and its place in the Harry Potter universe, but she should be ashamed at the poorly thought out and nonsensical plot device of the Triwizard Tournament.

Summary: Harry Potter and the Suspense
Review: One difference from the other books in this series, is the amount of suspense. In the beginning of the book Harry and his friends are held in suspense while wondering what is going on at Hogwarts this year that is different, for when nobody is supposed to know, everybody else seems to know about it. Then they are held in suspense while finding out who is the Hogwarts champion. Finally, it is the tasks that hold them in suspense. If you love suspense, this is the book for you.

Summary: Absolutely Amazing!
Review: The Harry Potter Series is amazing. As a teacher I try to keeep up with children's lit and this assignment (self imposed) has been a pleasure. As I entered the book store to purchase the lastest book, I encountered a parent and child engrossed in the novel. I asked the child (about 10 years old) what she thought so far and she smiled and told me that it was excellent. Of course, I rushed to the counter for my reserved copy. I have read each of the four installments and have found each one better than the next. This book is a page-turner. It is well plotted, engrossing and mesmerizing (think L'Engle, Lewis) What a wonderful gift to children's literature (and to lit teachers everywhere). The plot, setting, characters and conflict become real to the lucky readers. I, for one, can't wait for the next installment.

Summary: Brilliant literature!
Review: Once again, J.K. Rowling has shown her wonderful imagination and excellent writing in this 4th installment of the Harry Potter books. Her character development, intricate plot lines, comedy, fictional creatitivity, and true-to-life personalities all combine to form an incredibly satisfying read. Every book impresses me more. In Goblet of Fire, I could not put it down, particulary in the last quarter. This is a sign of a great writer and all of her books have held my attention until the very end. In fact, sometimes I guiltily caught myself skimming future pages because I so wanted to find out what happens. But I restrained myself and continued to read. I was not disappointed! Her build-up to the climax and conclusion of Goblet of Fire was the best yet! These books are not just for kids. They are an incredibly satisfying read for adults as well. I highly recommend you read this book!

Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Review: This book is by far the most exciting of the Harry Potter books that I have read. Starting out with Harry Potter stuck with the Dursley's in the beginning, then being asked to go to the Quidditch World Cup with two of his Hogwarts friends, with tragedies at the World Cup, to crushes being crushed, to where Harry Potter meets his match. I would reccommend this book to people of all ages (and not to mention the first 3 books) with vivid imaginations and a quest for adventure.
