Rating: Summary: Harry Potter a delight for all age! Review: The fourth installment of the Harry Potter saga by J.K. Rowling is astounding and brilliant. Her portrayal of a teenage outcast in the "Muggle" world who becomes the unlikely hero is totally original. The magic in this book, however, brings the reader closer to the story. This time, Harry is going back to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. He meets with his best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Harry prepares for his most wildest adventure yet. There will be dark evil and suprise! ... Rowling was indeed right when she said the book would be more violent. This however gives the book more flavor to readers of all ages. The Harry Potter movie better match up to the first book. These book series have brought a touch of delight to children all over the world.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the first 3 Review: I loved the first 3 Harry Potter books but this one I really did not like the ending. Also, the whole book was not that great I almost predicted everything.
Rating: Summary: I think I'm in love (with Hary Potter books) Review: I realize that although it seems like I have been reading my whole life, I am only in High School and so have a long ways to go yet. But I still read a lot more than most people my age and I can honestly say that the Harry Potter books are the best I have ever read, ever. I really liked this one because of the way it was laid out. It was almost like you had three suspenseful endings (the tournament) but honestly, the real ending just blew me away! My heart was pounding, I was breathing fast, I've never had a book do that to me before! Beating my record for book 3 I stayed up 'till 5:30 AM reading this! Read this book, but don't start it when you have a lot to do, because I can guarantee you, everything else will take a back seat untill you close the book at the final page.
Rating: Summary: The best of the books Review: This book is mcuh better than any of the previous ones. It is funny and charming, yet it begins to deal with darker issues. I do not recommend this book for young children. It is frightening and there is a death. I'm sure you all know the basic plot, so I won't say more (and if you haven't, I don't want to give anything away!) I do have one complaint. The book does not give a coherent picture of the magical world. There is no explanation of its boundaries or origin. It gives the books the appearance of being poorly thought out.
Rating: Summary: Another excellent installment in the Harry Potter series Review: Before I read these books, I thought all the clamor over them was ridiculous. Now after having read them, I still think it is a bit silly (have you SEEN some of the tie-in products), but I can understand how it got started - the Harry Potter series is terrific. My sister got the first book for Christmas, and since I was curious about the whole Harry Potter thing, I decided to see if they lived up to their hype. Without a doubt, they blew my expectations away. These books are addicting - I just went and bought the fourth one since I couldn't get it from the library fast enough. I enjoyed the fourth one as much as I enjoyed the first three. While it is quite a bit longer than the others, it didn't feel drawn-out as I was reading it (though I agree that it easily could have been 200pgs shorter w/ everything of importance still in it), and the ending was incredible. It is annoying though that it will be a fairly long wait to the next one (especially since I read the first 4 in 2 weeks). As for objections that these books are anti-Christian and promote witchcraft, I feel they are unfounded. While I understand this view - the Bible is rather clear in prohibiting witchcraft, as their "magic" is from Satan - this type of magic is not anything like that in the book. The magic in the books is very similar to the Force in Star Wars - a power wholly unconnected to any deity(in fact most likely created when the universe was created) - where some individuals have the ability to use the power and choose for themselves whether they will use it for good or for evil. The magic used by Rowling's characters and the magic prohibited in the Bible are entirely different, IMHO, and only have the misfortune of sharing the same name.
Rating: Summary: Too Hyped Review: The book is supposed to be one of the hottest out there, but when I finished it I couldn't understand what all the hoopla was about. The book starts out well enough, without the usual dribble at the Dursleys', but it dragged on way too long. I also disliked the fact that Rowling seemed to condone slavery. When Hermione starts lobbying against the slavery of the elves, she's a joke. Harry and Ron just laugh at her and convince her that the elves LIKE to be slaves. What kind of message is that? The dance was also unsatisfactory because Harry didn't even do much with Cho. This book was supposed to be the beginning of his romantic life, and yet he's still completely inexperienced. Some aspects were interesting, like the three tasks, but the ending left me wanting more. It seemed to be too abrupt, if you can believe that about this 700 page book. Anyway, I'd say that the book's content didn't merit the frenzy, but if you want a cute distraction...
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Review: Have you ever been put in somthing you were to young to be in? Well in the book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling. Harry was put in an activity he was to young for ,and he dosn't know who put him in it. Well this isn't an ordinary event. He has to fight monsters for one task, and much more. Throught this book he has to complete three tasks. Someone might even die. This book has many twists and turns which makes for exciting reading. I would recommend you read the three before you read this one. I enjoyed reading the three other Harry Potter books. Harry meets a very special person. In this book he may even fall in love. Harry meets many new charactors and really gets to know more charactors. For instance he finds out were Sirus is hiding. Sirus is hiding because he was convicted of a crime he did't do. He is hiding in a cave in Hogsmede. The Goblet of Fire is a wooden bowl that has a fire in it. You put your name on a piece of parchment. Three weeks after you put your name in, it picks the three best kids and they get to compete. Will Harry Potter walk out alive, or die trying to complete the three tasks? Have you ever wanted to be a wizard? ...
Rating: Summary: A word from an avid (and adult) reader Review: I picked up The Harry Potter books (Volumns 1 to 4) in London just wanted to see what the hullabaloo was about and, before I knew it, I was sucked into the world of wizardry and Hogwarts - it brought me right back to school...I was never made a prefect, much less the Head Girl! Ain't that tragic??? For American readers who may not understand the English school system, this is an excellent opportunity for you to recognise that discipine, esprit de corp and genuine friendship are valued above all else - a fine English tradition.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: Rowling has a fantastic story-telling style that keeps one bound to the book till it is completed, and leaves one asking for more. In this fourth book of the series, she managed to spin in the emotions that both children and adults relate and feel for in their different worlds.
Rating: Summary: A witch, and a wizard- your two best friends Review: When i first heard of the Harry Potter books- I thought "How stupid!" but these books proved otherwise. The fourth book - my favorite- was amazing. It showed good friendship between Harry and his friend Ron who envy's harry's fame. Hermione is the top student at Hogwarts. The enemy Draco comes with new interesting stories everytime they meet. But most importantly, with the Dark Lord rising again, and Harry's name secretly put in the Goblet of Fire.... who is his friend, and who's trying to kill him?
