Rating: Summary: Why? Review: Sullen, confused, pensive, self-questioning? Why? the very qualities we loved about Harry are now caught up in teen angst. Is the next volume going to be about his sexual escapades? She is trying to keep up with her aging audience, but in doing so, she is losing the new one, and the world of wonder.
Rating: Summary: More of the same Review: It is completely mind boggling that every time it is the same story she tells in a different cover. Just read the first in the series and then go on to read something else, completely non Potter related.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful addition for Harry Potter fans! Review: This book is truely a work of art. It is also one of the saddest books I have ever read. I don't want to spoil anything for those who have not read it yet, but it did bring tears to my eyes. No real complaints, but there was one thing bugging me. At the beginning of the book, Harry felt a little "off" to me. His actions didn't seem to 'match' what we knew of him. Towards the middle and the end, he seemed to return to the same old Harry Potter we know and love. I realized after I finished, that J. K. Rowling has done a fantastic job of capturing "15" for her readers. Now we have to wait for book 6 now! JKR, please don't make us wait too long! ;-)
Rating: Summary: The Order of the Phoenix lives up to the hype Review: After getting the book at midnight last night and spending all night staying up and reading it, I can enthusiastically recommend this book to all Harry Potter fans who have been waiting so long for it to finally arrive. There are so many new things that the reader encounters in this volume that the wait has been well worth it. The tone is definitely darker than the previous installations, but the overall message of the series remains intact: the value of friendship, bravery and love is at the heart of it. Happy reading!
Rating: Summary: Harry Delivers Again Review: After making my purchase at one minute after midnight and reading through to dawn I must say I continue to be impressed with the saga of Hogwart's star pupil. Notwithstanding the length -- and it is *long* -- the story flows seamlessly, threads are woven in from prior volumes and shocks occur at metered intervals. Neither as dark nor as light as the earlier books, Phoenix lies in the middle of the range of character and event emotions. As well as observing the maturing of Harry, we also observe the maturing of Rowling as a writer. Harry's personality is much further developed - we're getting glimpses of Harry on the eve of adulthood, and generally that which may be observed is pleasing. If you are a Potter fan you will be delighted with Order of the Phoenix. If you have not yet been inducted into this wonderful world, start at the beginning and look forward to the fact that you can flow directly to volume five without having to wait three years for it's publication since volume four.
Rating: Summary: WOWZERS!!! Review: this book is perhaps the best of the series!! it is sooo awesome... i'm not going to say anything about plot because i don't want to spoil it for some people, but trust me it is worth the wait and the time it takes to read it!!
Rating: Summary: Best H.P. book yet Review: A geat book and it is the darkest harry potter book yet.The story never drags and is always quick and fluid.
Rating: Summary: Okay, but... Review: I was up all night reading this, and I must say I'm slightly disappointed. The book started out good, and got better. It gave me the slight impression of a bad dream. Everything strong was going to pieces, and it seemed like everyone was waiting to wake up. The part with Fred and George was classic. I noticed, though, and this could be just me, was I felt like the last hundred pages or so were slightly rushed. JK, in my opinion, was rushing to finish the book. There was really no real character development, and I was slightly mad about the easy write off of Draco. I wished that JK might have maybe done a bit more with them? They're coming off as fake bad guys, and like Voldemort, more of an archetype than a person. However, Snape saved the book. I love Snape. There's just something about him that's real. I can't really describe it, but you probably know what I mean. All in all, great book. :D Maybe not great for kids, but I wouldn't know. I let my eight year old sister watch Candyman with me.
Rating: Summary: Worth The Wait Review: The fifth book in the wildly popular series was not a disapointment after the two year wait. Written in a much more mature tone that the earlier books, it is well paced and well narrative. Rowling has done it again. An instant hit, as obvious by the HP merch mania, and a must read for all fans of the young Wizard
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: The book is not what most people will be expecting. Harry has changed A LOT from the last book. He's sullen, angry, confused and, well, becomes a typical rebellious teen. That old demon, testoterone, has finally reared it's head with a vengence and Harry frequently doesn't know which way to turn. The story starts of with a 'bang' and doesn't leave off with twists, turns, subplots, backstory and info (unexpected) about Snape, Dumbledore and his own parents and godfather! At nearly 870 pages, it's a long read but nearly impossible (at least for me) to put down after cracking the spine 5 minutes after I bought it. You will be surprised, shocked and sorrowful with what happens but you will not be disappointed. JK Rowling has written a masterpiece.
