Rating: Summary: Humorous & wildly entertaining, couldn't put it down! Review: William Shatner's sense of humour emerges on almost every page of this semi-autobiographical account of his search to "understand" the love fans have for Star Trek. He spends most of the book stumbling through conventions, in disguise, while "interviewing" unsuspecting fans as to why they love the show & attend the conventions. His insights into the reasoning behind all this love and popularity, not to mention all the jokes at Leonard Nimoy's expense, make for hilarous reading for the most part, with a few forays into the more serious side of life. All in all, highly entertaining, and very hard to put down! This book leaves you feeling good about life, people, and of course Star Trek.
Rating: Summary: Easy and entertaining reading. Review: Another fun read about Bill Shatner's take on a Star Trek subject. Written in his (or is it really Chris'??) playfull and spirited manner that made his former books on the series and movies fun to read. I only regret that I gobbled it up in one day and am now left fondly hoping this wasn't Bill's last foray into his take on all things Trek!
Rating: Summary: Entertaining and informative! Review: I listened to the audio edition of "Get a Life" during a road trip and thoroughly enjoyed it. For one thing, Mr. Shatner has a wonderful voice and he is an expressive reader. Not being a Trek fan, I learned a great deal about the Trekkie phenomenon and found it fascinating. I gained an appreciation for and understanding of Trek fandom, and I would like to personally thank Mr. Shatner for all the hours he spent running around Star Trek conventions in his latex mask investigating why people love Star Trek. I highly recommend this audio edition as entertaining listening. And since the tape is abridged, I plan to read the book in the near future.
Rating: Summary: Kirk Lives! Review: I'm not much of a Trek fan - I actually can't stand the original episodes from the '60s - but I love William Shatner and this book definitely added to my opinion of him. Shatner has some great stories and I couldn't read them fast enough. The entire book was very entertaining.
Rating: Summary: This one you've got to read! Review: Captain Kirk hates flying? Find out some of the things you never associated with the name William Shatner! Extremely funny! Yup, Chris Kreski and William Shatner are back. If you liked STAR TREK MEMORIES you're going to love this one!
Rating: Summary: Mr. Shatner is the Mark Twain of celebrity memoirs! Review: I'm a not a huge Star Trek fan and as a matter of fact I have not even seen all of the episodes. A few years ago, I was stunned to see people in a local mall dressed up as Star Trek characters. I learned there was a Star Trek convention nearby. Like Mr. Shatner, I was perplexed that grown adults would go out in public like that. I loved the SNL Mr. Shatner hosted so when I saw this book I picked it up. I thumbed through it and found it interesting and thought "what the heck." What a great book! I laughed hysterically at Mr. Shatner's & Chris Kreski's humorous prose. Mr. Shatner displays an amazing knack for self-deprecating humour which is extremely endearing. Also, I found those "quirky people" who dressed up as Star Trek characters equally endearing. Like Mr. Shatner, I get it now. This is just a huge party equivelant to a Superbowl bash. I have a new found appreciation for Star Trek, its fans, and William Shatner, the Mark Twain of celebrities. Just as an aside, DeForest Kelly will be deeply missed. Thank you, Mr. Shatner for a truly wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: Witty, funny, heartfelt! Review: Wow! I sat down at a local bookstore waiting for my wife with "Get A Life" in my hands thinking I'd read a few pages to pass the time. 5 chapters later, my wife was waiting for me--I had to buy it and read the rest at home. This book makes me laugh out loud (aforementioned wife thinks I'm nuts). I'm happy to see that Mr. Shatner enjoys the love, affection, and Star Trek subculture which he had a hand in creating. His self-deprecating humor is funny and refreshing, his insights (and those he interviews) are heart-warming and dead-on. Kudos to Mr. Shatner!!!!! This book should be interesting to even "casual" Star Trek fans.
Rating: Summary: A very entertaining book! Review: Mr. Shatner made it again. This is a very fun book to read. Some of the stories in the book made me laugh like I had not in a long time. I have never been at a convention before but after reading this book I cannot wait to attend one. A book about us, the fans, was long over due. Great work, a must read.
Rating: Summary: Extremely Entertaining take on the Star Trek Phenomena Review: Audiobook- If you ever thought you really knew William Shatner, think again. His storytelling of the Star Trek craze and it's effect on him is hilarious. As Spock would say, "It's a terribly human account". It begins with William Shatner separating himself from Kirk (the fascination eluded him) and ends with him embracing his alter ego and his quest to understand the Star Trek following. A great way to see the many sides of William Shatner.
Rating: Summary: A great read Review: Besides giving a good background, on the all too freaky conventions. Shatner entertains with a nice quick and easy read. Its almost like hearing one of his monologues from Star Trek. I thoroughly enjoyed this book
